IN THE HOUSE

ENOSBURG--"Opening our doors after two years" of pandemic shut down, the Opera House at Enosburg Falls presents Prydein on Friday at 8 p.m. Local acoustic-electric band Cadillac Jack will open the doors at 7 p.m.
Prydein's Aron Garceau, Iain Mac Harg, Hazen Metro, Andy Smith, and Caleb Bronz play Celtic-music-meets-Motorhead and AC/DC. The Celtic rock band noted for their use of bagpipes has released five albums to date and has played major festivals up and down the East Coast and the Midwest. They formed in Burlington in 1999. The almost rhyming Cadillac Jack facts are Michael Kelley, Ralph Rosenburg, Carl Marcinkowski, Bill Gaston, and Summer Sounds favorite Tyrone Shaw.
The Phoenix House food truck will be on-site and McClurgs Pub will operate a cash bar.
Admission is $18. Call 933.6171 or find them on Facebook for more info and up to date COVID guidelines and click here for tickets and more info.

PANDEMIC NEWS

Vermonters overpaid their property taxes last fall. Gov. Phil Scott called on Vermont legislators to return half of the more than $90 million Education Fund surplus to Vermont taxpayers and to dedicate the other half to strengthen Vermont's Career and Technical Education (CTE) system.
Starting this week, Vermont no longer issues "sector-specific guidance." Instead, general guidelines will apply to all Vermonters which means schools along with long-term care facilities ans similar congregate settings will no longer be differentiated.
New case counts do continue to fall. Vermont reported 803 new COVID-19 cases statewide last week, still twice as many per capita as neighboring New York. Franklin County reported 101 cases in the 14 days ending Friday.
Vermont relies on self reporting. Every home in the U.S. is eligible to order eight free at-home COVID-19 tests in two separate sets of four from COVIDtests.gov. Most major chains including Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart should have free N95 masks for distribution.
Here's my own advice as data pours in and we learn that a single shot is not enough. Whether you have contracted and recovered from this coronavirus or haven't yet received a booster or even if you have done it all, immunity has waned for many of us. That lowered resistance leads to infections and increased transmission of the virus. Get the COVID and Flu shot(s), get the booster, and take precautions. Statewide, about 300,700 Vermonters or 66% of the eligible population has completed vaccination and gotten a booster.
The state's online "dashboard" has changed. It now shows how many Vermonters are "up to date" on their vaccines and those numbers have declined. Since "up to date" means a person has received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines, including any booster dose(s) when eligible, the numbers have shifted to reflect the change in methodology. Franklin County now reports that about 62% of the people have completed the series.
No vaccine is 100% foolproof. Wash your hands. Keep wearing an N95 mask where you can't control the airflow around you until we reach the same herd immunity we have for smallpox and once had but lost for measles because so many parents refused to vaccinate their kids. Bonus: it will also help protect you from pollen, summer colds, and the winter flu.
Vaccination clinics for booster shots and for the first or second dose of vaccine are open across Vermont for anyone age 12 or older. Call 855.722.7878 or Click here to make an appointment or for more info. You can also walk-in at Costco, CVS, Hannaford, Price Chopper/Market 32, Rite Aid, Shaw's, Walgreens, or Walmart, or get an appointment with CVS, Kinney Drugs, Walgreens, or UVMMC Outpatient Pharmacies.

ON STAGE LIVE

Here's my own advice as U.S. deaths approach one million. Whether you have contracted and recovered from this coronavirus or haven't yet received a booster or both, immunity has waned for many of us. That lowered resistance leads to infections and increased transmission of the virus. Get the COVID and Flu shot(s), get the booster, and take precautions. No vaccine is 100% foolproof. Wash your hands. Keep wearing an N95 mask (not a bandana and not a "chin strap") where you can't control the airflow around you until we reach the same herd immunity we have for smallpox and once had but lost for measles. Bonus: it will also help protect you from pollen, summer colds, and the winter flu.

ALMOST LIVE ON STAGE

Virtual music and events continue this week.

Nikki Glaspie was live on Paper Chasin' Britney in Petaluma, CA, on YouTube. The Berklee alum has toured with Beyoncé, the Sam Kininger Band, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, and her own funky, jazz and soul band Nth Power.

And as long as we're thinking about Dumpstaphunk, here they are, live at the New Orleans Superdome with United Nations and Stomp and Justice on YouTube. The New Orleans funk and jam band was founded by keyboardist Ivan Neville, the son of Aaron Neville who, along with uncles Art of The Meters, and Cyril in the Neville Brothers, defined New Orleans funk.

Summer Sounds favorite Mark Shelton sang Gospel on Facebook on Sunday morning and Tuesday Night Variety on Facebook in a house concert on Tuesday evening; he even sang the "unofficial Elvis Presley St. Patrick's Day song." Follow him on Facebook for a link to this week's offerings.
