THEATER

ENOSBURG--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls and Cat Crusader present another thrilling evening of intrigue, food, and suspense at the Murder Mystery Dinner Theater with "Peace Love and Murder" on Saturday at 5 p.m. This year's theme is "London Hippie" which is another opportunity to dress the theme. ART ON THE WALLS

ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence collection spotlight is on stoneware potter Wendy Everhart. The art and fine craft cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 38 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. JEFFERSONVILLE--Bryan Memorial Gallery features Strawberry Thief by Debbie Peate. It is in the Stowe gallery and on Facebook. The gallery has exhibits of the landscape painters of New England. The main showcase in Jeffersonville is open Wednesday-Sunday 11 - 4 and the Stowe Gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 - 5. Appointments are available. ART YOU CREATE

ST. ALBANS--Get spooky. 14th Star Brewing Company hosts Spooky Pet Painting Night with Linda Oakes Carvalho this evening at 6:30 p.m. The fun loving twist on their monthly pet painting nights includes a best costume award. Extra points if your pet is a collie named "Spooky." The cost is $50. Click here to register and for more info.


HUMANITIES

ST. ALBANS--Osher Lifelong Learning Institute continues the weekly program series with the sweetest presentation of the year as UVM Extension Maple Specialist Mark Isselhardt discusses Maple Sugaring: Tradition, Innovation, and the Future of Sweetness in the Greg Brown Lodge at Hard'ack today at 11 a.m. Mr. Isselhardt will explore the cultural roots of maple syrup in Vermont and the history of continuous innovation and technological advancement behind our iconic product.
      This semester will offer eight lectures, mostly on Thursdays through November 6. A St. Albans series membership is $40 individual/$70 couple for all eight events, or $10 per program if purchased individually. Call 802.656.8407 or email for registration questions. Click here for more info.


WORKSHOPS & CLASSES

ST. ALBANS--The Artist in Residence Gallery offers workshops in the "basement" creative space at ReMarketVT. Shanna Ratner will lead Introduction to Block Printing on Tuesday at 6 p.m. All supplies are provided. The cost is $50. Click here to register and for more info.


MILTON--The Milton Artists' Guild also has two workshops this week.
      Social Sunday continues at the Art Center with free weekly art classes for families at MAG on Sunday at 1 p.m. Each week offers a different project. Stay for 30 minutes or the whole two hours. Click here for more info.
      The 8-week series Intro to Watercolor continues with John Edebhols on Monday at 10 a.m. - 12 noon and continues through October 27. The course invites people with little or no experience. Subjects will vary each week depending on season and class interest. Students will supply their own materials. The cost is $260 for members or $300 for non-members. MORRISVILLE--River Arts continues the Macrame 101 series with Feathered Forms with Karen on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The November workshop will teach how to craft soft, decorative macrame feathers for ornaments, wall hangings, or gifts. No experience is necessary. All materials are included

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council will hold a Board Meeting and Updates in person at the Swanton Free Public Library on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month. Find the SAC on Facebook for the agenda and more info.


ON STAGE LIVE

Thursday, October 30
HIGHGATE--MVU presents the MVU Instrumental Concert featuring the Middle School Band, the Middle School String Orchestra, the Concert Band, the Jazz Ensemble, and the Wind Ensemble in the Trahan Theater this evening at 6:30 p.m. At the end of the evening, all the groups will join to perform one piece together. "It will kick off our 2025-2026 concert season," Band Director Aron Garceau said.


Friday, October 31

SOUTH HERO--Two Heroes Brewery has live music most weeks. The Spring Chickens spooky string band take the stage on Friday at 6:30 p.m. They play hard-driving traditional Appalachian songs. Click here for more info.

NORTH HERO--The North Hero House hosts the two-night Wicked Good Time & Costume Party on Friday and Saturday nights beginning at 4:30 p.m. There will be piano bar music, a three-course dinner with seasonal cocktails and festive desserts, a costume contest, and Halloween hilarity. ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap starts the Halloween Part with two shows Friday night, Vacsean at 5 p.m., followed by Sticks and Stones for late night music starting at 9 p.m., plus two more shows live on Saturday night, Dan Parks and his ghostly guitar at 5 p.m. and McMaple pouring it on at 9 p.m. Call 802.878.3309 or email for more info. ST. ALBANS--14th Star hosts the annual Monster Mash Halloween Party & Costume Competition with live music from Barbie-n-Bones in The Room on Saturday at 4 p.m. Music starts about 7. HIGHGATE--Rockin' for Jason is a night of folk, lues, and classics with the Blue Rock Boys, Second Hand Blues, and Uncle John's Band at the Manor on Saturday at 6 p.m. Doors at 5. BURLINGTON--Foam Brewers presents singer/songwriter Ryan Sweezey & the Midnight Walkers (all stars Jesse Agan, Joshua Glass, Chris Doncaster, and Eric Belrose) to release his critically acclaimed sixth album Maybe Magic on Saturday at 8 p.m.

SHELDON--The Abbey promises a Howlin' Good Time in a spooky night Halloween Party with the Glass Onion Band on Saturday night. ST. ALBANS--The Vermont Choral Union with L’Harmonie des Saisons Baroque Ensemble will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem with soloists Myriam Leblanc, soprano; Rocky Duval, alto; Philippe Gagne, tenor; and Sumner Thompson, baritone; all under the direction of Eric Milnes at Holy Angels Church on Saturday at 8 p.m. The Requiem in D minor is one the most treasured and oft-performed sacred works in the classical repertory. This concert will present the work as it would have been heard at the time of the Revolution. The L'Harmonie des saisons period instrument orchestra plays period clarinets, bassoons, trombones, trumpets, tympani and strings.

Monday, November 3
ST. ALBANS--The BFA Performing Arts Center will come alive with music as the annual BFA Strings Festival gathers musicians all day on Monday, culminating in the BFA-SAC String Festival Concert on Monday at 4:30 p.m. Over 100 students from the Maple Run and area schools will come together to learn from guest instructors and rehearse for the evening's concert.
      Admission is by $5 suggested donation and the public is invited.


Tuesday, November 4
SOUTH HERO--Doug's Open Mic Night features Emily Darcy at Two Heroes Brewery on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Local songwriters and musicians gather every other Tuesday from. Sign up in-person only from 5-530. Click here for more info.

FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF

FRANKLIN--The Haston Library Book Discussion Group reads The Mighty Red by Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award–winning writer Louise Erdrich this afternoon at 2 p.m. The story of love, natural forces, spiritual yearnings, and the tragic impact of uncontrollable circumstances revolves around a collection of characters in Argus, North Dakota. Copies of the book are available at the front desk.


HIGHGATE--The Highgate Library and Community Center continues the Muffin Monday Senior Social Hour on Monday at 10 a.m. The program is a community connect to brainstorm opportunities for senior support. Each week will also include coffee and tea, as well as fresh pastries. The program will run every Monday morning and is free for anyone 55 and older. Registration is mandatory as space is limited. NORTH HERO--Alan Berolzheimer will lead the North Hero Public Library discussion of this year's Vermont Reads book, The Light Pirate by Lily Brooks-Dalton, this evening at 6 p.m. Set in the near future, the story of survival and resilience follows Wanda, a child born out of a devastating hurricane, as she navigates a rapidly changing world. Mr. Berolzheimer also led the summer Reading & Discussion Series.


ST. ALBANS--Walt McLaughlin will sign his latest book Apprehensions of What-Is, at the Eloquent Page on Saturday at 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. "I feel this terrible and unrelenting urge to know What-Is, but I cannot know all there is to know." The philosophical-spiritual-autobiographical essays bring together "half a century of contemplation, woods wandering, reading and soul searching." He will also sign some of the over two dozen books as well as chapbooks and other works he has written. Click here or find them on Facebook for more info.
