BIG FUN IN A SMALL TOWN

EAST FAIRFIELD--The 33rd annual Jig in the Valley takes over the Meeting House green for eight hours of music with the Dale and Darcy Band and Rusty Bucket, Carol Ann Jones and the Superchargers, Left Eye Jump, the Jim Branca Quartet, and the world famous Oleo Romeos' Big-Ass Review all on Sunday starting at noon.
      There will be flea market vendors, a silent auction, here will be wood-fired pizza, flea market vendors, a parade with Black Creek Adventure Camp’s Puddledock Circus, raffles, and the food tent with grilled chicken kabobs, burgers, hotdogs, fresh side salads and beverages, the world famous pie table, and free ice cream. Admission is $10 per person or $25 per family. All proceeds support Fairfield Community Center programs. The event is rain or shine. In case of rain, the music will move into the Meeting House. ART ON THE WALLS

JEFFERSONVILLE--Bryan Memorial Gallery features Tidepool 1 by Kate Follett. It is in the Eastern Edges exhibit and on Facebook .
      The gallery has exhibits of the landscape painters of New England. The main showcase in Jeffersonville is open Wednesday-Sunday 11 - 4 and the Stowe Gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11 - 5. Appointments are available. ENOSBURG--Multidisciplinary artist Garfield Morgan concludes his 2025 Residency at Cold Hollow Sculpture Park on Saturday. Visitors can engage with his creative process through interactive workshops and presentations. Click here for more info.

NORTH HERO--The Island Arts Artisan Market, hosted by Jennifer Pratt, will fill the Homer Knight Barn on Saturday at 9 - 4 p.m. There will be handcrafted sterling jewelry from Bijoux Gervais, driftwood/wool owls from Champlain Island Creator, artisan pottery from Serendipity Studio, paintings from Jarrett Gamache Art, resin artwork from Mountain View Creations, full grain leather goods from Cindy’s Leather Goods, all natural soaps from Birch and Bramble as well as custom furniture and home decor from The Red Hammer Workshop, and much more. ART YOU CREATE

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council free Art Journaling Group meets in person at the Swanton Free Public Library on a new night on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
      Art journals, junk journals, art pages and more are on the table and make for fun for artists, writers, scrap bookers, and more. The group meets to share ideas and to take time to create. Gatherings are traditionally held at the library on the fourth Monday of every month. If you need supplies to get started, check out the library's Makerspace or click here for more info.


ST ALBANS--Awaken Yoga & Creative Arts Studio and Kreations by Katherine offers a Pet Silhouette Paint Event with a northern lights background at the studio on Saturday at 12 noon. The fundraiser for Ghost will support surgery for the husky's CCL tear (equivalent to an ACL tear in humans). There will be prizes. The suggested donation is $10-$50. PEOPLE'S ART SHOW (October 4)--Montgomery Center for the Arts seeks submissions for the third annual People's Art Show, a "free, non-juried and uncensored exhibition celebrating all forms of creativity, diversity, and imagination." DANCE

NORTH HERO--The joy of community dancing to lively music continues at Island Arts with International Folk Dancing with instructor Lesley Alpert at the North Hero House Pier on Friday at 9:30 a.m.
      All dances are taught. No partner required. No experience required, and new students are always welcome. Bring your water bottle and wear comfortable, flat shoes. Classes will continue most Fridays through September 26. Admission is free, but donations to Island Arts are appreciated. MORRISVILLE--River Arts offers two Dance workshops on Tuesday.
      Hanna Satterlee, Director of ANIMAL Dance, leads Contemplative Dance Practice at River Arts on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. Drawing on the program founded by Barbara Dilley, this workshop will help to integrate inner and outer experiences. The cost is $30. Click here to register and for more info.

NORTH HERO--The Island Arts Summer Festival continues with Skylark in the Homer Knight Barn on Friday at 7 p.m. July programming has also included Counterpoint, the Ken Clark Organ Trio, and Little Women. The festival continues in August. Click here for tickets and more info about each event.

WORKSHOPS & CLASSES

ST. ALBANS--The Artist in Residence Gallery offers the new Hand Building Pottery Class with Wendy and Martha in the "basement" creative space at ReMarketVT on Monday at 6:30 p.m. The class will delve into the fundamental methods of hand and slab building including how to transform a simple lump of clay into functional and artistic pieces. The class is suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience looking to refine their skills. Click here for more info.


MILTON--Social Sundays continue at the Milton Artists' Guild Art Center with free weekly art classes for families at MAG on Sunday at 1 p.m. Each week offers a different project. Stay for 30 minutes or the whole two hours. Click here for more info.

SWANTON--Promote Swanton, Swanton Rec, and the Swanton Free Public Library hosts the second annual Block Party with live music by Minced Oats in the Village Green Park on Friday at 5:30-7:30 p.m. There will be arts & crafts, bounce houses, corn hole, face painting, and more.


MILTON--The Friday Night Live Music and Buffet at Arrowhead Golf Course presents the Nobby Reed Project for another great night of electric blues on the deck on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The meatball sub buffet starts around 7 p.m. Both run until 9 p.m. The buffet costs $15 per person ($7 for each child). NORTH HERO--Island Arts presents Skylark for an inside concert in the Homer Knight Barn on Friday at 7 p.m. as part of the Island Arts Summer Festival. Grounds at 6:30. The northern Vermont contemporary string ensemble of Ben Lively, violin and guitar; John Dunlop, cello; Jane Kittredge, violin; and Ana Ruesink, viola, "challenges the boundaries between classical, folk, and modern idioms." They are influenced by Nordic, Celtic, and American music. Admission is $20-25 and "table upgrades" are available. Reserve a table for seating at $15 for a 2-top, $25 for a 4-top. ST. ALBANS--Irons & Ale has a weekend of music at Champlain Country Club with Glass Onion on Friday night plus B-Town live on Saturday night. Music starts at 7 p.m. The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to close every day with pub fare from nachos and chicken wings to salads, burgers, salmon, and chicken to dinner options and libations.


Saturday, July 26
ST. ALBANS--St Luke's Episcopal, St Albans Museum, St Paul's Methodist, Vermont Superior Court, First Congregational Church, and the City of St Albans host the annual Church Street Celebration with a Bells of St. Albans Concert and Open Mic all on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. There will be tours and open house offerings from the five buildings in addition to a food truck, a DJ, children's activities, face painting, vendors, and the St Albans Steam Engine. ALBANS--Northwest Farmers Market fills Taylor Park with live music, handmade crafts, locally grown food, prepared foods, free kids activities on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tom Pearo plays this Saturday and the Bookmobile will be in the park. SHELDON--Hartman Farm Stand presents a Chicken BBQ and An Afternoon of Music with Summer Sounds favorite Mark Shelton on Saturday at noon - 4 p.m. There will be classics, oldies, Elvis, Gospel and more plus tons of food, fun, and ice cream. SHELDON--Summer Music at Grace presents the Citizens Concert Band at the Grace Episcopal Church on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Concerts take place outdoors and will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
      Under the direction of Jeremy Berger, the community band plays a series of free, outdoor summer concerts in towns around Franklin County. Their rich history dates back to 1947. Click here for more info.

ST. ALBANS--St. Paul's UMC presents the Tim Zimmerman and the Kings Brass in concert for an evening of music and joy on Sunday, August 3. No tickets are required but donations greatly appreciated.

     Virtual music and events continue this week.


      Local writer DonnaRae Menard continues the weekly read with Episode 2 from her St. Albans mystery novel, Beneath The Fountain, on NW Access TV and on YouTube.

FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF

FAIRFAX--The Fairfax Community Library has two events this week.
      Library Book Club meets to discuss The Rose Code by Kate Quinn at the library and on Zoom this afternoon at 3 p.m. A Zoom link will be available for anyone who wants to attend remotely.
      The library has a Silent Reading Party at the Fairfax Town Offices on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Bring any book for an hour of silent reading with fellow book lovers. Afterward, everyone can discuss their readings over refreshments. Registration is appreciated, but not required.

FAIRFIELD--Franklin County Photogs with Harry Goldhagen hosts a virtual Zoom group at Bent Northrop Memorial Library on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The group meets monthly to share and learn about photography. Click here for the Zoom link and more info.


HIGHGATE--The Highgate Library and Community Center continues the Muffin Monday Senior Social Hour on Monday at 10 a.m. The program is a community connect to brainstorm opportunities for senior support. Each week will also include coffee and tea, as well as fresh pastries. The program will run every Monday morning and is free for anyone 55 and older. Registration is mandatory as space is limited. ST. ALBANS--The Eloquent Page Mystery Book Club meets for Ask Me No Questions by Shelly Noble on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The first book in the Lady Dunbridge Mystery series lifts the covers of the dazzling world of 1907 Manhattan where life is rife with murder and scandals.
