ART ON THE WALLS

ENOSBURG--Cold Hollow Sculpture Park offers "the best walk in Vermont" on Sunday at 1:15 p.m. The first docent-led artful walking tour of the 2025 season walk will offer lively discussion and behind-the-scenes stories of the sculptures. Admission is free but registration is required. Click here for tickets.


ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence collection spotlight is on award-winning fine art photographer and portraitist Wayne Tarr. The art and fine craft cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 38 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery on South Main Street is open Tuesday - Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here or find them on Facebook for more info.
      Special note: The live reception for Chris Jenkins, Natalie LaRocque, Susannah Sakal, and Meta Strick at the gallery will be held next Thursday, July 10, at 4:30 p.m.


STOWE--Bryan Memorial Gallery celebrates In Their Elements, the unique paintings of Susan Bull Riley with an opening reception with the artist in the Stowe Gallery on Saturday at 1 - 3 p.m. The original works are painted on historical maps. The birds and animals depicted are native to the maps on which they are painted. In Their Elements continues through August 31.
      The gallery has exhibits of the landscape painters of New England. The main showcase in Jeffersonville is open Wednesday-Sunday 11 - 4 and the Stowe Gallery is open Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, 11 - 5, and Friday and Saturday, 11 - 6. Appointments are available. MILTON--Today's art of the day is Nocturne by Americana roots singer-songwriter Rebecca Padula at the Milton Artists Guild and on Facebook.
      The MAG art center and gallery showcases the work of over 145+ artist members in Milton Square behind the Milton Post Office. They are open Wednesday - Saturday 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., and closed Monday and Tuesday. Click here or find them on Facebook for more info.


ENOSBURG--Cold Hollow Sculpture Park has named multidisciplinary artist Garfield Morgan a 2025 Artist in Residence. His work transforms discarded materials and used garments through painting, distortion, and repurposing. Mr. Morgan will be at the Park July 12 - 26. During his residency, visitors can engage with his creative process through interactive workshops and presentations. Click here for more info.

ST. ALBANS--Downtown Saint Albans seeks artists to participate sell their work on the sidewalks during the Art & Sidewalk Sales on July 10-12. You will need to provide your own table and tent if wanted/needed, they will find you a location. Email Arleigh Young or message them on Facebook.


HUMANITIES

GEORGIA--The Georgia Historical Society Brick School Museum will open for the season on Saturday at 1 - 3 p.m. The museum is now open every Saturday through September 27. The Society is selling t-shirts depicting the Brick School Museum and the 50th Anniversary of the Historical Society for $25. Funds raised will help underwrite the brick masonry/foundation work needed to save the Brick School Museum.


FAIRFIELD--Bent Northrop Memorial Library hosts the VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region (formerly called Franklin County Home Health) for Death, Dying and Danishes on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The open community discussion will have light refreshments, coffee, and tea. ST. ALBANS--Carepartners Adult Day Center offers special sessions of Singing for People with Memory Loss & Their Caregivers in Franklin Park West on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. No musical experience is needed, and sessions are free. Songs include traditional folk, classics from the 20s-80s, and show tunes. Group singing sessions will be held on Wednesdays through August 13. Email for more info.


ONLINE--The Vermont Abenaki Artists presents a heritage hunt in Dark Academy Adventures, Episode 1: The Adventure of the Bentwood Boxes on YouTube. The video uses science, deduction, and technology to examine "American Indian Antiquities Collecting." This episode will track down and authenticate an American Abenaki Bentwood Box, an early 19th century "Micmac Brides Boxes."


JEFFERSONVILLE--Amanda Gustin talks about Vermont vs. Hollywood: 100 Years of Vermont in Film in the Cambridge Historical Society at the Warner Lodge on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Vermont has been a featured location in Hollywood movies for nearly a century. Those films provide insight into the hold Vermont has had on imagination in the media age. Click here for more info.

MILTON--Social Sundays continue at the Milton Artists' Guild Art Center with free weekly art classes for families at MAG on Sunday at 1 p.m. Each week offers a different project. Stay for 30 minutes or the whole two hours. Click here for more info.

ST ALBANS TOWN--The weekly St. Albans Bay Farmer's Market and Concert Series continues with Blues Over Easy today from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. They have live music every Thursday evening into September. "The rain date will always fall on the following Friday." Find them on Facebook for more info.

ESSEX JUNCTION--The Sparky's Blues Jam has the Vermont Blues Society, hosted by David and Matthew Nerbak, Eric Belrose, and Larry Vigneault, this evening at 6 - 9 p.m. Food at 5 p.m. The Blues Jam will continue every other Thursday through the end of the summer. WASHINGTON DC--The Young Tradition/Vermont Folklife ensemble Sugar in the Pan will perform daily at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival on the National Mall through July 7. Current Touring Group members Eli Glasser, Emmett Stowell, Fiona Stowell, and Henry Kervick are joined by Touring Group alumni Grace Martin and Owen Kennedy. Independence Day, Friday, July 4

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs has fireworks on Friday and Saturday nights, musical fireworks. This week they host Cooper, Bob Recupero on Friday and Sister Speak live on Saturday night. ST. ALBANS--Northwest Farmers Market fills Taylor Park with live music, handmade crafts, locally grown food, prepared foods, free kids activities on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. David Karl Roberts plays this Saturday as the Big Blue Trunk fills the park with games. BAKERSFIELD--The Town of Bakersfield hosts its Fourth of July Happenings with live music, a parade, fireworks, and more in the beautiful metropolis on Saturday. Festivities begin with the parade at 6 p.m. traveling down Main Street. Rusty Bucket plays live behind the Historical Society building. There will be ice cream by the cone, fresh pies and fried dough with Bakersfield maple syrup, burgers and hotdogs, freshly popped popcorn, and baked goods, all from the Bakersfield Historical Society, the Volunteer Fire Dept., Brigham Library, and the Flieger Family. Bring your own blanket and chair.


ALBURGH--The Alburgh Oasis Outdoor Music Venue begins the 2025 season with the Nobby Reed Project on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. BYOB. Admission is $10 at the door or $15 for limited, reserved, premium table seating. Find them on Facebook for more info.

ENOSBURG--Free Summer Concerts in the Park continue with the Enosburg Town Band on the Lincoln Park Bandstand on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The evening also includes arts and crafts activities thanks to the Enosburg Public Library, popcorn and drinks to support the Enosburg Business Association, and ice cream sundaes to support the Franklin County Cat Crusaders. ALBANS--The Summer Concert Series continues with Rushmore in Taylor Park on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Concerts are free for all every Wednesday evening through August 27. 14th Star Brewing Company and eats from Maharaja Spice will be on hand for food and drink. HIGHGATE SPRINGS--The Citizens Concert Band continues its summer series at the Little White Church on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Admission is free. Concerts take place outdoors and will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
      Under the direction of Jeremy Berger, the community band plays a series of free, outdoor summer concerts in towns around Franklin County. Their rich history dates back to 1947. Click here for more info.


ST. ALBANS--The monthly Blues Jam continues at Twiggs, hosted by Vermont's leading blues man, Nobby Reed and the House Band, on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Blues Jam blows out the speakers at Twiggs on the second Wednesday of each month. Find them on Facebook for more info.

     Virtual music and events continue this week.


      NW Access TV was there when the Missisquoi River Band with Will Patton played the St. Albans Bay Farmer's Market Concert Series on June 5. It's on YouTube.


      Relax! Summer Sounds favorite Mark Shelton sang Elvis Love Songs on Facebook on Friday June 27. Follow him on Facebook for a link to this week's offerings.
      A programming note. A hacker made a "copyright claim" and muted some of the performance. They claimed "93 minutes of ownership" on a 65 minute show. Mr. Shelton is a member of ASCAP and BMI. and has purchased the rights to sing all the music he performs. That means he has legal permission to use and perform the music of these tracks. You may be able to hear most of the show by manually "advancing and rewinding" the track.


FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF

FAIRFIELD--The Bent Northrop Memorial Library Book Discussion Group meets for The Salt Path by Raynor Winn this morning at 10:30 a.m. The book is the true story of a couple who lost everything and embarked on a journey walking the South West Coast Path in England. The group meets monthly to share and learn about photography. Click here for more info.


ST. ALBANS--Who could think booksellers could be sinister? The Eloquent Page Fantasy Book Club meets to discuss The Left-Handed Booksellers of London by Garth Nix on Wednesday at 6 p.m..The novel takes us to a slightly alternate London in 1983 where Susan Arkshaw is looking for her father, a man she has never met. She finds a family of fighting booksellers and intellectual booksellers who police the mythic and legendary Old World in addition to running several bookshops. Could one be in St. Albans?
