MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Center for the Arts has released its Mid Winter Greetings from the MCA with a run down of 2021 events and happenings and a look ahead at 2022, all on Facebook. ART ON THE WALLS
JEFFERSONVILLE--Bryan Memorial Gallery is publishing Techniques and Mediums on Facebook. Each brief segment looks at specific techniques or mediums. They cover Encaustic Painting this week.

SWANTON--The first Swanton Arts Council Artist Nook of the year features Van Joe at the Swanton Free Public Library. His works will be on exhibit and available for sale through Mid-March.
Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, the artist enjoyed drawing as a child and had hoped one day to become a Disney cartoonist. His work has sold via farmers markets, artist pop ups in-the-park, online networking, and word of mouth. Find the rest of the story on Facebook.
MORRISVILLE--River Arts has opened two new, in-person exhibits.
Woman and Girls, works by Kathy Black, is in Copley Studio Gallery. Ms. Black's latest body of work is "inspired by two related threads: the experience of changing perspectives and exploring the connections that run between women at different points of life."
Listening Outside the Lines in the Folley Hall Gallery is an Oral History Project part of the Lamoille Art & Justice Project. The multimedia group exhibit explores "what it means to be a Person of the Global Majority in Vermont." It feature oral histories from PGM in Lamoille County with visual art and poetry from artists Sarah Audsley, Alexa Herrera Condry, Harlan Mack, Crystal Stokes, Isadora Snapp, and Madeleine Ziminsky.
Both exhibits will be open through April 9. The gallery is open Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Our galleries, museums, and presenters were among the first to shut down and our artists were the first to lose jobs at the beginning of the pandemic. They will also be among the last to recover yet they are vital to the long term success of Franklin County communities. PANDEMIC NEWS
A new report tells the stories and data collected under the now-completed Vermont Covid-19 Cultural Recovery Grant Program. The program has helped fund arts and humanities organizations during the pandemic.
Federal aid has arrived in wheelbarrows and the state has record tax surpluses, Gov. Phil Scott reported as he outlined his $7.7 billion budget proposal in his annual budget address last week "to make the most of this historic moment."
Vermont reported 11,683 new COVID-19 cases last week which means the infection rate is 50% higher than in Florida. Franklin County reported 1,119 cases in the 14 days ending Friday.
Vermont now relies heavily on self reporting but the test distribution program, sayyescovidhometest.org, was still sold out at press time. Meanwhile, every home in the U.S. is eligible to order four free at-home COVID-19 tests from COVIDtests.gov. Most major chains including Rite-Aid, Walgreens, CVS, and Walmart should have free N95 masks for distribution beginning tomorrow.
Here's my own advice for dealing with COVID-19. Whether you have contracted and recovered from this coronavirus or haven't yet received a booster or both, immunity has waned for many of us. That lowered resistance leads to infections and increased transmission of the virus. Get the COVID and Flu shot(s), get the booster, and take precautions. Statewide, about 280,600 Vermonters or 62% of the eligible population has completed vaccination and gotten a booster. In Franklin County, about 58% of the people have the complete vaccine and the additional dose which means county residents remain in the bottom half of the population vaccinated and boosted.
No vaccine is 100% foolproof. Wash your hands. Wear an N95 mask where you can't control the airflow around you until we reach the same herd immunity we have for smallpox and once had but lost for measles. Bonus: it will also help protect you from pollen, summer colds, and the winter flu.

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council is gathering supplies for the upcoming Valentine's Day Card Kit program. If your supplies closet still has the material you bought in 2018 for the project you started in 2019, shelved in 2020, and missed in 2021, perhaps now is the time to put it to good use.
