MORRISVILLE--"Sometimes we have a change of heart, and sometimes we need a change of art." The River Arts Art100 Annual Fundraiser continues with the Folley Hall Gallery and the virtual gallery open for preview now. The Virtual Drawing will be livestreamed on Facebook tomorrow evening at 6 p.m.
River Arts patrons have donate artworks of all kinds: paintings, drawings, sculptures, fiber arts, jewelry, pottery, and more. Each piece is worth at least $100. A $100 ticket gets you in the virtual door. Everyone is guaranteed to take home a piece of art. Click here for more info.

ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on functional ceramic sculptor Jessica LaBonte, tile mosaicist Shanna Ratner, and clay sculptor Deborah Shell. Their work is celebrated in the gallery, on the A.I.R. page, and on Facebook.

It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery on South Main Street is open Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here or find them on Facebook for more info.

RESTART NEWS

The Centers for Disease Control has approved the Pfizer vaccine for kids age 5-11. "We absolutely recommend that children, even children who have had the disease before, get vaccinated," CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said yesterday afternoon.
Coronavirus case counts remain high, but last week Vermont Gov. Phil Scott reiterated that more vaccinations are the answer, not more restrictions. Cases have continued to spike in Orleans County where the infection rate of 1,531 cases per 100K is nearly three times the statewide average. In Essex County where the infection rate is 1,216 cases per 100K, only about 62% of the residents have received even the first shot.
Vermont reported 1,371 new COVID-19 cases last week. Franklin County reported 192 cases in the 14 days ending Sunday. Unvaccinated Vermonters are still three to four times more likely than vaccinated Vermonters to contract COVID-19 according to the Vermont Department of Health. Vermont has adopted the CDC Guidance around masks and universal masking recommendations for vaccinated students across the state have been extended until January 18.
Here's my own advice. Immunity is beginning to wane for many of us, leading to mild infections and increased transmission of the virus. Get the COVID and Flu shot(s), get the booster, and take precautions. No vaccine is 100% foolproof. Wash your hands. Wear a mask where you can't control the airflow around you until we reach the same herd immunity we have for smallpox and once had but lost for measles. Bonus: it will also help protect you from pollen, summer colds, and the winter flu.
Vaccination clinics for booster shots and for the first or second dose of vaccine are open across Vermont for anyone age 5 or older. Call 855.722.7878 or click here to make an appointment or for more info. You can also walk-in at Costco, CVS, Hannaford, Price Chopper/Market 32, Rite Aid, Shaw's, Walgreens, or Walmart, or get an appointment with CVS, Kinney Drugs, Walgreens, or UVMMC Outpatient Pharmacies.

WORKSHOPS & CLASSES

MORRISVILLE--River Arts will explore watercolor technique in Intro to Watercolors with instructor Gabe Tempesta this afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
The Vermont artist explores his surroundings in drawing, painting, watercolor, and water-based oils. This workshop is a step by step recreation of a landscape for all levels of watercolor experience. The cost is $55. Click here to register and for more info.

MORRISVILLE--River Arts will host a Potter's Potluck on Sunday at noon. In lieu of a traditional potluck to avoid sharing food during the pandemic, Lisa invites all to bring a favorite mug and stories about pottery and porcelain. There will be time to make small ornaments or jewelry pieces.
The cost is a suggested $5 donation. Click here to register and for more info. The Potter's Potluck will take place on the first Sunday in one month each season.

IN THE SAC

SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council Art Journaling Group meets at the Swanton Free Public Library on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Art journals, junk journals, art pages and more are on the table and make for fun for artists, writers, scrap bookers, and more. The group meets to share ideas and to take time to create. Gatherings are held at the library on the second Wednesday of every month. If you need supplies to get started, check out the library's Makerspace or email for more info.

ON STAGE LIVE

Vermont has lifted all remaining statewide COVID-19 restrictions.
