BIG MUSIC WEEKS

FRANKLIN COUNTY--The Big Music Weeks of Summer begins this week as some of our friends play multiple gigs. Summer Sounds celebrates 30 years of concerts in Highgate. There are shows in East Fairfield, Essex, Milton, Morrisville, North Hero, St. Albans, Sheldon, and South Hero.

SOUNDS OF SUMMER!

HIGHGATE--O. C. McCuin & Sons, the All Arts Council, and the Town of Highgate begin the 30th year of Summer Sounds concerts at home in Highgate with the return of Elvis, our old friend Mark Shelton, in the first free Summer Sounds concert of the season on the new stage on the Highgate Arena lawn on Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
ArtBits News Photo      We have no idea how many stars to expect Sunday night. "Maybe we should do three sets," Mr. Shelton told me on my roof this year (yes, there's a story). "Pirates, Elvis, Gospel, and Elvis singing gospel. Plus who knows?"
Mark Shelton's astounding voice and dynamic performances leave audiences mesmerized in amazement. The "Hillbilly Cat" has that Star quality, to move from the 50s to the 70s with the King of Rock n' Roll as the perfect way to start the season.
Mr. Shelton is a member of the International ETA Hall of Fame. His The King Returns concert tours are also internationally acclaimed and internationally sold out. His shows have been featured on ABC News, CBS Inside Edition, Good Morning America, and more as well as globally in India, Fuji Television Network in Japan, and the Daily Mail in the U.K.
Just before the concert, come to the Summer Sounds Social in the Park starting at 6 p.m. The Foster Grandparents' special Intermission and Social event is a chance to visit with friends and have Sundaes on Sunday.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling Co. Inc, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, Hampton Inn of St. Albans, O. C. McCuin and Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always on the Highgate Arena Lawn, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair for the outdoor family music and festivities. The rain site is the Highgate United Methodist Church.

RESTART NEWS

Summer Sounds begins its 30th season of outdoor concerts with Mark Shelton on Sunday, July 11. Area restaurants and venues are offering live music while other artists and venues continue live streaming online.

ART ON THE WALLS

Vermont has lifted all remaining statewide COVID-19 restrictions.
Here's my own current advice, updated to today. Get the shot(s) and take precautions. The vaccines are extraordinarily effective but nothing is 100% foolproof. Wash your hands. Wear a mask where you can't control the airflow around you until we reach the same herd immunity we have for smallpox and once had but lost for measles. Bonus: it will also help protect you from summer colds and the winter flu.

JEFFERSONVILLE--Last chance. The Jeffersonville Art Jam concludes on Main Street this Saturday as the Visions of Vermont Gallery, the Bryan Memorial Gallery and the Cambridge Arts Council host artist demos, live music, lectures, food vendors, and artists' booths up and down Main Street. Sunday is the rain date.
The 90th annual Northern Vermont Artists Association June Juried Show at Visions of Vermont Gallery also ends on Saturday.

ST. ALBANS--The Downtown Art and Sidewalk Sales take over the county seat this weekend as artists, local merchants, and vendors bring local arts and crafts and other great deals to the sidewalks. The event takes place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday; hours and days will vary by store.
Email or find them on Facebook for more info.

WORKSHOPS & CLASSES

MORRISVILLE--River Arts hosts Wednesday Night Live at Oxbow park on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Facilitators help all ages complete art projects while local musicians play the stage. Admission is free.
