LOCAL CALL FOR ARTISTS

FIFTH ANNUAL SPRING YOUTH ART SHOW (March 16)--The Swanton Arts Council exhibit will include artwork by youth K-post grad from Swanton, MVU, Highgate, Sheldon, Franklin, and Alburgh. The show will run March 20-27.
      All 2D or 3D media is welcome. Submit all artwork to the school art departments. Email for more info or click here for the event poster.


MAYOR'S PHOTO COMPETITION (July 1)--Mayor Tim Smith and St. Albans Community Arts gearing up for 2020 with a theme of Landscapes and Flowers. Start taking photos now, including visions of ice fishing. The top 15 photos of the 2019 competition were displayed in Taylor Park, then auctioned to benefit St. Albans Community Arts.

ART YOU CREATE

SWANTON--SAC hosts the Paint pARTty for a Cause in the Swanton Village Complex on Sunday at 1 p.m.
      The group will paint sap buckets. The cost is $35 per person which benefits Bark For Life, American Cancer Society of Vermont, and Relay For Life of Franklin County. ST. ALBANS--Twiggs hosts Purple Roses Wine Bottle with Fairy Lights with Paint Nite and artist Diane Kingston on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

IN THE ARTS COUNCILS

MILTON--The Milton Artists' Guild hosts Social Sunday at the MAG on Sunday at 1 p.m.
      Social Sundays are a free art day once a week for the winter. The art project is "for adults and the children in their lives." Refreshments and snacks are provided each week. Each art project is designed for children ages 3-15. Find them on Facebook for more info.


MILTON--The Milton Artists' Guild continues Live Model Mondays at the MAG on Monday at 6:15 p.m.
      The Guild will host one professional nude model for the evening, male and female models in alternating sessions. The sessions begin with quick warm-ups, followed by short poses and then move into longer poses. Bring your own drawing and or painting supplies. The cost is $12 for members or $15 for non-members. SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council Writer's Group will meet at the Swanton Free Public Library this evening at 6 p.m. The group meets on the second Thursday of every month. Members can share progress and join in the discussion about longer projects and anything else about writing, reading, publishing, and more.

RECAP BOOT CAMP

ST. ALBANS--Peoples Trust Company hosts an All-Star Marketing Recap in the final Small Business Boot Camp in the Second Floor Conference Room today at noon. This fast workshop will be a recap of everything discussed in the previous six weeks. All instructors will be on hand to replay the best tidbits from the six week program. They will also raffle off two prizes.

SHELDON--Pub Music Fridays continues at the Abbey with Dan Jarvis in the Pub on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Click here for more info.


MORRISVILLE--River Arts hosts Brew Ha Ha with comedian Justin Lander as emcee on Friday at 6:30 p.m. The night of comedy features Vermont Comedy stand-ups Tracy Dolan and Liam Welsh plus local favorites.
      Admission is $10. The pie auction will raise money for River Arts' youth and adult programs. Homemade pizza by Sustainable Kitchen and a brews from Rock Art Brewery will be available for purchase.


Friday-Saturday, March 13-14
ST. ALBANS--The Old Foundry at One Federal presents the Blue Rock Boys on Friday and Cooper on Saturday. Shows begin at 6:30 p.m.
      Local favorites Eric Bushey and Cliff Crosby play vintage, eclectic music on acoustic guitar, harmonica, electric guitar, tenor and 5-String banjos. Cooper, also known as Bob Recupero, plays guitar and sings songs that came out of cowboy songs, gunfighter ballads, singer-songwriters, and rock 'n' roll.

Saturday, March 14
ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company presents Austin James + The Nomads to blend the worlds of folk, soul, and rock live on the taproom stage on Saturday at 6 p.m.

ENOSBURG--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls paints the night green with beers and cheers and Prydein live at a St. Patrick's Party on Saturday at 7 p.m. The evening offers corned beef and cabbage, a cash bar with green beer, and Vermont's own Celtic Rock Band with Michael White opening the evening.

ST. ALBANS--Barbie N Bones go green to rattle Nelly's into an early St. Paddy's Day on Saturday at 9 p.m. It won't be just the green lights that turn their kilts green and beard orange. Find them on Facebook for more info.


Sunday, March 15
BURLINGTON--Burlington Irish Heritage Festival presents Fiddleheads with Yasi Zeichner in Contois Auditorium at City Hall on Sunday at 1 p.m.
      Fiddleheads enjoy traditional music and playing that music with others. Ms. Zeichner is a fiddler, singer, and sean nos dancer who performs traditional Irish and Appalachian music with her sibling band the Zeichner Trio. She manages the Young Tradition Festival, YTV Trad Camp, and the Instrument Petting Zoo.


KEY COLONY BEACH, FL--Abstract Radio continues the KCB Community Association's Concert in the Park series in Sunset Park on Sunday, the Ides of March, at 4 p.m. The rock band out of Islamorada was formerly known as Misery Loves Company.
      Concerts in the Park are free concerts sponsored by the KCBCA and take place most Sunday afternoons in Sunset Park. Bring a chair or blanket and refreshments. Parking is limited so walking, biking or ride sharing is recommended.


Tuesday, March 17
      Everyone is Irish on Tuesday. Slainte!


ST. ALBANS--The annual Jeff's Maine Seafood St. Patrick's Day Celebration includes a corned beef and cabbage buffet with all the fixings all day from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. and live bagpipes "after the short and sweet parade that goes right by."


ST. ALBANS--The City has an After the Parade Party at St. Albans City Hall Auditorium on Tuesday at about 5:30 p.m. with Irish music by JAZ Entertainment, performances by McFadden Academy of Irish Dance, and activities for the kids.
      There will be plenty of Irish food for sale, samplings of Irish beer at the JW Ryan's cash bar, free "green" beverages for the kids, Irish tattoos, and more for the whole family. Admission is free.


SHELDON--The Abbey hosts a St. Patricks' Pub Party with traditional corned beef and cabbage and a jig with live music on Tuesday. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.
      "May your troubles be less, your blessings be more, and nothing but happiness come through your door."


ST. ALBANS--The Irish Squirrels take over Nelly's for St. Patrick's Day on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The percussion driven acoustic band plays an eclectic mix of music. Find them on Facebook for more info.


Wednesday, March 18
ENOSBURG--The Warm Your Spirits Winter Series, a benefit for the Opera House at Enosburg Falls, features vocalist Scot Martell & Grace Kelley in the 242 Texas BBQ at 6:30 p.m. for cocktails (cash bar). Music begins at 7.
      This is the final evening in the series of three concerts to beat the winter blues and raise money for the House. Admission is $20 per person. Click here for tickets and more info.


ART SITE OF THE WEEK

The ABCs of Contra Dancing board book is a "lovingly illustrated rhyming couplet look at the alphabet and contra dancing." Burlington writer, dance caller, and physicist Luke Donforth and illustrator Sarah Hirsch have finished the book itself and now have made this Kickstarter project to produce it. The project has 26 days to go. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/callingluke/abcs-of-contra-board-book .
