CALL FOR SAPPY ART

ART SHOW (April 12)--The annual Sappy Art Show at the Vermont Frame Shop is an official part of the Vermont Maple Festival and has become a favorite for Vermont artists. The exhibit is open to Vermont artists working in any two- or three-dimensional media. All work must reflect this year's theme: "Vermont Maple - A Sweet History." No Entry Fee. Cash prizes will be awarded in several categories as well as overall best of show.

"BREAK THE WINTER BLUES"

ST. ALBANS--Last chance. The Artist in Residence Gallery has a Raffle Basket for AIR customers with works by Donna Blatchley, Barry Genzlinger, Maureen Genzlinger, Paule Gingras, Claire Graham-Smith, Martha McGinn, Meta Strick, and Sally Tarr. Any purchase of over $5 gets the customer one ticket in the raffle jar or can make a $5 donation and get one ticket in the jar. The event continues through February 28.

SWANTON--The regular Swanton Arts Council board meeting and update at the Swanton Free Public Library on Monday at 6 p.m.

COMMUNICATIONS BOOT CAMP

ST. ALBANS--Peoples Trust Company hosts Radio and Print Communications in this week's Small Business Boot Camp in the Second Floor Conference Room today at noon. This fast workshop will show how to incorporate traditional media like radio and print into your marketing plan.

ST. ALBANS--14th Star Movie Nights continue in The Room, on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Doors at 6.
      14th Star has a poll to choose the movie they will screen. Thursday's "Carrey On" choices are Dumb and Dumber, Liar Liar, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, and The Mask. Find them on Facebook to vote for this month's featured presentation.
      Come early to claim a seat and enjoy some movie trivia. There will be plenty of seating, or feel free to bring a blanket and pillow and get cozy on the floor. Free popcorn for all who attend, a full dinner menu from Grazers, and, of course, craft beer.

Friday, February 28
SHELDON--Pub Music Fridays continues at the Abbey with ski Instructor and resort guy Phil Graziano in the Pub on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Click here for more info.


ST. ALBANS--The Clothier hosts a sing-along Bobby Cee on Friday at 7 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--The Old Foundry at One Federal presents Paul Asbell of Unknown Blues Band and Kilimanjaro fame on Friday and Django Soulo making music from the heart, for the heart, on Saturday. Shows begin at 6:30 p.m.

MORRISVILLE--Moog's Place offers Django Soulo on Friday evening and Danville Dan, Roland & Fran on Saturday. Moog's has "live music every night we're open, starting between eight and nine p.m." with open mic night scheduled most Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. Find them on Facebook for more info


Saturday, February 29
ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company presents the old-time, punk infused, string band OldBoys live on the taproom stage on Saturday at 6 p.m.
      Kevin Wright, slide guitar, vocals; Justin Park, mandolin, guitar, vocals; Julia Wright, fiddle, vocals; and Niles Franc, upright bass, vocals; from the backwoods of Cavendish bring four-part harmonies and energy to traditional music. Find them on Facebook for more info.


ST. ALBANS--It's another busy Saturday night at Twiggs.
      The Twiggs Comedy For A Cure series continues on the Main Stage Saturday evening at 7 p.m. The evening will raise money for the Wellness Warriors of Bark For Life of Franklin County and Relay For Life of Franklin County. Make dinner reservations prior to the show since only drinks, appetizers, and desserts will be served during the show.

FEBRUARY-MARCH ART DEADLINES

QUANTUM SHORTS FLASH FICTION CONTEST (February 29)--This open-themed Quantum Shorts competition accepts all genres, including those written by or for children. Enter stories of 1,000 - 3,000 words with strong characters, a well-crafted plot, and realistic dialogue. "Make us laugh, make us cry, but most of all, make us feel!" Quantum Shorts has alternated between annual calls for science fiction and science films since 2012. No Entry Fee. Click here for more info.


CDS ESSAY PRIZE IN PHOTOGRAPHY (March 1)-The Duke University prize honors the best in short-form documentary photography and writing in alternating years. Submit 15 photographs in digital format plus a one-page statement and one-page biography or C.V. Application Fee. Click here for more info.


JMKAC ARTS/INDUSTRY RESIDENCY CALL (March 13)--Arts/Industry connects artists with the resources, technology, and materials of Kohler Co. in the Pottery and Foundry. No experience with clay or metal is necessary, just an interest in exploring new ideas, processes, and perspectives within an industrial setting.
