     Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

STORIES CLOSE TO HOME

ST. ALBANS TOWN--Stories About St. Albans Bay is a free storytelling event about St. Albans Bay at Kamp Kilkare State Park on Sunday from 5 - 8 p.m. Formal storytelling will take place from 5 - 6:30 p.m. and informal and interactive storytelling from 6:30 - 8.
      There will be photography, journaling, painting, a "story booth," and much more. The stories and imagery will be archived and displayed as part of a multi-site storyboard project for our community.

A NIGHT WITH ELVIS

ENOSBURG FALLS--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls presents Mark Shelton: A Night with Elvis, a benefit concert on Saturday at 7 p.m.
      Summer Sounds favorite Mark Shelton's astounding voice and dynamic performances leave audiences mesmerized.
      The International Elvis Tribute Artist Association will induct Mr. Shelton to the 2018 International ETA Hall of Fame in August. His The King Returns concert tours are also internationally acclaimed and internationally sold out. His shows have been featured on ABCnews, CBS Inside Edition, Good Morning America, and more as well as globally in India, Fuji Television Network in Japan, and the Daily Mail in the U.K.
      General admission is $10 per person or $15 for reserved seating in the first two rows. All proceeds benefit the Friends of the Opera House and the Franklin County Area Cancer Network. ART FOR THE WALLS

SWANTON--Marie's Barn Quilts will host a class to benefit the Swanton Arts Council this evening at 6 p.m. Click here to see the quilt pattern the class will do on a 2 foot square board with your choice of colors.
      The cost is $45. Email to register.


ST. ALBANS--Free Studio Fridays continue in the Claire Payne Studio on Friday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. The studio is open to artists to get together and work at a studio in the company of other artists. These will be held every Friday until October 26. It is all free; bring your own project and materials.

ART ON THE WALLS

ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on Donna Blatchly with one-of-a-kind knit and felted pieces, jeweler Terry Buehler, and painter and photographer Natalie LaRocque.
      The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments and a raffle today 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of June.
      The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 40 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery, newly reopened at 10 South Main Street, is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here for more info.


ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts the landscapes of photographer David J. Griggs this month. Mr. Griggs grew up in Middlebury, journeyed to the Southwest, returned to Highgate Center, and now lives in southern Vermont. And he keeps coming back to Franklin County. His contemplative images make up a solo show at the NMC Gallery this month.
      The show continues through the end of June.


IN THE ARTS COUNCILS

ST. ALBANS--St. Albans Community Arts hosts its monthly Community Arts MeetUp in City Hall on Tuesday with a Board Meeting at 6 p.m. and the Creative Meetup at 6:30. The gathering will discuss new and ongoing business, meet new people, and discuss any creative ideas that crop up. Click here for the minutes and reports of prior meetings and more.


SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council will hold its monthly board meeting and update at the Swanton Village Complex on Monday at 6 p.m. All are welcome. Click here for the agenda.


SWANTON--Tonya Caswell will host a planning meeting for a 7 Deadly Sins art show on Wednesday in the King's Daughters Room at the Swanton Free Public Library.
      The show plans to showcase all art formats with inspiration from one or all seven of the deadly sins. Interested artists already include painting/sculpture, clothing design, music, and more.

DANCE

ST. ALBANS--2inspire Dance Company presents The Places You Will Go in the BFA Performing Arts Center on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
      In this, their 12th annual show, choreographer and director Rose Bedard takes music, dance, and narrations to create a rendition of the Dr. Seuss story to celebrate this year's nine seniors. Over 31 dancers from ages 8-18 will perform.
      Admission is $8 at the door.


ON STAGE LIVE

Thursday
ST. ALBANS--The St. Albans Town Educational Center Spring Bands Concert takes the stage in the SATEC gym this evening at 7 p.m.
      The concert features the Beginner Band, Intermediate Band, Advanced Band, and the Jazz Ensemble. It is kid friendly.


Thursday-Saturday
ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Blues Night with the Nobby Reed Project tonight at 7 p.m., Shake the Band tomorrow at 9 p.m., and IncaHoots on Saturday at 9 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents The Church Restoration Project plumbing the deep well of the Celtic tradition tonight, Texas and Vermont singer-songwriter Shane Murley on Friday, and the power duo Blue Rock Boys, Eric Bushey and Cliff Crosby, on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.
      On Monday, Twiggs hosts Dave's Ice Cream Social from 5 - 8 p.m. Jeremy will wheel his special ice cream cart right up to your table and make you a custom sundae. The price is $5 and all proceeds go to the Franklin County Area Cancer Network.

MILTON--Chris & Erica kick off the new season at Arrowhead Golf Course in the Friday Night Live Music and Buffet series on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Dinner will be BBQ chicken.
      You don't have to be a member; the public is welcome. Be sure to come early, usually around 6, to make sure you get a good seat.


Friday-Saturday
ST. ALBANS--Music, Brews & BBQ presents The Buck Hollers on Friday and Close to Nowhere on Saturday in the Biergarten at Mill River Brewing. Shows start at 7pm.
      Matt Parisi, Steve White, Dave Vallett, and Tim Wills have played together and in separate bands in Vermont and New York for over 30 years. The Buck Hollers play a range of music from Country, County Rock, Folk, Americana, Rockabilly, and Bluegrass.
      Close To Nowhere is a Vermont based band playing a diverse blend of original and covers from bluesy rock to funky rock to straight up rock 'n' roll.
      Mill River is a sustainable, family-owned, brewpub serving their own VT craft beers. The BBQ & Smokehouse menu offers locally raised meats and produce, and baked goods made in-house.


Saturday
ST. ALBANS--14th Star Brewing Company goes Full Share rockin' on Saturday at 6 p.m.
      The Burlington band creates an eclectic rock show with covers of Jesse J, Kelly Clarkson, Bruno Mars, Sheryl Crow, Heart, Boston, Kansas, and Journey with Andrea Costello, lead vocals, saxophone, flute; John Bardeau, vocals, lead guitar; Tim Campbell, keyboards and guitar; Pete Coutu, vocals, bass; and Brian Crogan, drums and percussion.


EAST FAIRFIELD--Summer Sounds favorites Bob Amos and Catamount Crossing continue the Summer Evenings with Vermont Treasures series at the Meeting House on the Green on Saturday at 7 p.m. Doors at 6:30.
      The popular sextet features Mr. Amos, banjo, guitar and vocals; Sarah Amos, vocals; Freeman Corey, fiddle; Gary Darling, mandolin; Steve Wright. guitar; and Chris Cruger on bass. The band puts on an entertaining, high energy show, with stellar vocals, terrific original material, plus some great new interpretations of some bluegrass classics.
      Light supper fare, beer, and wine will be available throughout the evening.
      The Meeting House series will showcase 10 great bands between May and November. Admission for all concerts is by suggested donation of $10 per person at the door. All shows support the Meeting House Preservation Project in East Fairfield, a historic landmark built circa 1866. Call 802.827.6626 to reserve seats and pay at the door.

ST. ALBANS--Heartless (a Heart/Zeppelin Experience) comes to Durty Nelly's Irish Pub on Saturday at 9 p.m.
      The Vermont-based touring act for the upper East Coast plays "each song as true to live versions of Heart's performances" and Led Zeppelin covers. Jasmine White, lead vocals, provides the "Ann Wilson" performance. The band has Jeff James and Scott Campbell, lead and rhythm guitars; Bob Defeo, drums, Mike Stridsberg, bass, and Kevin McEnerney, keys.
      General admission is $9.34.


Wednesday
MORRISVILLE--The Wednesday Night Live summer music series kicks off its sixth season with the Starline Rhythm Boys in Oxbow Riverfront Park on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The series continues each week through August 22. There will be a rotating mix of food vendors every week, from American barbecue to Nepalese staples.


FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF

MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Center for the Arts hosts the Montgomery Writers Workshop with Tony Whedon in MCA Kelton Hall beginning Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Sessions will take place on June 13, June 27, July 13, July 27, August 15, and August 29.

ST. ALBANS--The Eloquent Page hosts Rutland author Yvonne Daley on Saturday at 2 - 3 p.m.
      Ms. Daley will sign and talk about her newest book, Going Up the Country -- When the Hippies, Dreamers, Freaks and Radicals Moved to Vermont. The cover pictures man who looks like Jesus standing next to a woman playing a flute to a sheep that is standing on its hind legs. That's just one of more than 100 stories of the counterculture movement that saturated the state. It was the generation that changed the Green Mountain state.
