FRANKLIN COUNTY--The Big Music Weeks of Summer continues this week with a huge lineup including some hokum in Summer Sounds which celebrates 27 years of concerts in Highgate. There are shows in Derby Line, East Fairfield, Grand Isle, Highgate, Morrisville, St. Albans, Sheldon, South Burlington, South Hero, and Stowe. BIG MUSIC WEEKS
HIGHGATE--O.C. McCuin and Sons, the All Arts Council, and the Town of Highgate continue the 27th year of Summer Sounds concerts at home in Highgate with our Summer Sounds Surprise, the Hokum Bros. Band, in the free Summer Sounds concert on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. NO CHAINSAWS WILL BE DAMAGED
Stick, Uncle Al, and Gus plus two brothers to be named later are a five piece group with catchy songs but, despite our entreaties, steadfastly refuse to juggle chainsaws and harmonicas during the show. Their lyrics speak of true-life experiences woven through Americana. Vaudeville Americana. Rare and original, the Brothers sing and patter and paddle their way into inspired silliness and offer enough sly satire and social commentary to insure you'll be wearing your happy face long after the show is over. Band members include Stick, uke and vocals; Uncle Al, electric tambourine and vocals; Gus, accordions, licorice, vocals; as well as the unknown upside-down Bassman and sousaphone player; and the lost drummer behind the monument.
Just before the concert, Summer Sounds Social in the Park starting at 6 p.m. The special Saint Pauls United Methodist Church Intermission and Social event will introduce a very special young performer and is a chance to visit with friends and eat hearty.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling Co. Inc, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, La Quinta Inn and Suites of St. Albans, O. C. McCuin and Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always in Highgate Municipal Park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair for the outdoor family music and festivities. SWANTON--Pop Up Pop In Gallery features the mixed media art of Nicole Gadouas and Scott Rheaume in the temporary art gallery at 23 First Street on Thursday and Friday evening from 5 - 9 p.m. ART ON THE WALLS
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
JEFFERSONVILLE--The Cambridge Arts Council's 9th annual Festival of the Arts takes over Main Street on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. rain or shine.
Besides art, the fine arts festival features food vendors, great music, and children's activities. The rain site is the nearby Cambridge Community Center on Old Main Street.
ST. ALBANS--Let's get Crafty. 14th Star Brewing hosts an Evening of Creative Crafts and Craft Beer on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Jon Young will lead watercolor techniques and Tanya Johnson will teach book folding.
Participants may choose one of four crafts available; the featured local artists will provide instruction and all materials needed to get your craft on. Registration includes one craft project and a beverage of your choice including beer from 14th Star, wine from Due North Vineyard and Winery, and various soft drinks.
ST. ALBANS--The Eloquent Page has the first chair out for "A Chair Affair."
Over 30 businesses have purchased chairs. Area artists are painting one of a kind designs now. The chairs will be auctioned off with half the proceeds going back to the Downtown Merchants Association and the rest to a community group.
The store has Lisa Simard-Pelletier's beautiful artwork. "Make sure you look at the back," Donna Howard said. "Our theme was 'A Secret Garden,' and you'll find Mary on the back."
SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council Writer's Group meets at the Swanton Public Library this evening at 6 p.m. Shane Collins will discuss paths to publishing. IN THE SAC

ST. ALBANS--14th Star presents Rushmore on the Taproom Stage on Friday at 6 p.m.
Bob Chevalier, lead vocals, piano, keyboards; Tim Comings bass, vocals; Dave Hevrin, drums; and Mike Trombly, guitar, vocals bring classic rock to Northwestern Vermont.
EAST FAIRFIELD--Summer Sounds favorites David Rosane and the Zookeepers let the wild out at the Meeting House on the Green for Summer Evenings with Vermont Treasures on Friday at 7 p.m.
Mr. Rosane is a full-time singer-songwriter who hails from Vermont, worked in the Amazon, and moved to Paris but just can't stay away from Vermont. He has conducted research for and taught at Cornell University and is an environmental and social justice advocate but, more, he is a post-punk power-and-protest rocker and songwriter with a multinational consortium of heavyweight musicians.
Admission for all concerts is by suggested donation of $10 per person at the door. All shows support the Meeting House Preservation Project. Refreshments will be for sale at intermission. Call 802.827.6626 to reserve seats and pay at the door. Click here for more info.

SOUTH BURLINGTON--Higher Ground presents the 7th annual Girls Rock Vermont Showcase in the Showcase Lounge on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. Doors open at noon.
Girls Rock VT is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering girls by teaching them to rock. The Showcase will feature five bands made up of 30 girls ages 8-18.

SHELDON--The Abbey Pavilion hosts a Sheldon Historical Society event with the 40th Army Band on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The afternoon includes a significant and historical special guest, the latest historical research exhibit, and another "free" surprise. The band begins playing at 2 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
DERBY--Derby Line Community Day presents Bluegrass at the Border with the Missisquoi River Band and special guest Will Patton on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The old fashioned community day is perfect for the entire family with Circus Smirkus, the Montshire Museum, Watershed on Wheels, face painting, craft exhibits, antique engines, horse drawn shuttle, alpacas, four bounces houses for children and adults, music all day and fireworks at dusk.
Admission to everything is free.
ST. ALBANS--The O Show may be on hiatus this year, but the show must go on.
On Saturday, 14th Star Brewing hosts A Tribute to Brooke Ostrander in The Room on Saturday at 5 p.m. The free concert will feature a jam session format with performances from former students of "Mr. O" paying tribute to the man, his legacy, and great music.
Sunday
GRAND ISLE--Island Arts presents the Vermont Jazz Ensemble in concert at the Grand Isle Lake House on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:30pm for picnicking.
The 17 member instrumental music group performs mostly classic jazz and Big Band music although the repertoire also includes Latin, Rock, Fusion, and more.

Wednesday
ST. ALBANS--The Citizens Concert Band continues the Downtown Summer Concert Series in the E.A. Loomis Bandshell in Taylor Park on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. 14th Star Brewing and the Traveling Canteen serve food and drink at all of this year's Summer Concert Series events.
Admission is free.
MORRISVILLE--Oxbow Riverfront Park continues the Wednesday Night Live music series with Ben Guihan on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
The series continues each week through August 23. The Wednesday farmers market won't be held at the Oxbow this summer, but there will be a rotating mix of food vendors every week and the River Arts' Art Tent will offer fun, creative activities for the community while the music plays.
