THE HUMANITY OF IT!

BAKERSFIELD--The H.F. Brigham Free Public Library hosts Wolf Peaches, Poisoned Peas, and Madame Pompadour's Underwear: The Surprising History of Common Garden Vegetables this evening at 7 p.m.

Although Anne Frank's Diary is the second most widely read nonfiction book in the world, little attention has been paid to the people who lived side-by-side with the Jewish population as persecution intensified. Mary Fillmore examines the choices they faced and the decisions they made in the face of those choices in this Vermont Humanities Council Speakers Bureau event.

JEFFERSONVILLE--The Varnum Memorial Library hosts a book discussion on Blood of the Prodigal by P. L. Gaus on Saturday at 3 p.m.
In these mysteries, mayhem and murder play out against a cultural/ethnic backdrop that illuminates more than "simply whodunnit." This discussion segment of the VHC Mysterious Lens on American Culture series will be led by Francette Cerulli.
