     Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

CALL FOR ARTISTS

      The Swanton Arts Council wants artwork for the Spring Youth Art Show. Works should be mounted with black matte or backing and labeled with the student's Name, Age, Town, as well as an optional Medium and Title. There are local collection points for the show.
Swanton and MVU students: submit to Swanton Public Library
Highgate students: submit to Highgate Public Library
Sheldon students: submit to Sheldon School Art Department
Franklin students: submit to Franklin School
Alburgh students: submit to Alburgh School Art Department

      The second Annual Spring Youth Art Show will be held in Swanton on Friday and Saturday, March 10-11. Email Nicole Gadouas for more info and click here for the show poster.


ART ON THE WALLS

HIGHGATE--The Franklin Grand Isle Bookmobile presents KidZArt 2017 at MVU this evening from 6-8 p.m.
      The celebration of the visual and performing art produced by Franklin County's youngest artists and residents. This year's theme is "Heritage."

IN THE ARTS COUNCILS

ST. ALBANS--St. Albans Community Arts holds its monthly meeting in the Council Chamber in City Hall on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Bring your Valentine. The agenda includes growing the arts in our community through events and classes.
      Plan Ahead. The Downtown Art Walk is next Saturday, February 18 from 11-3.


SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council is the local charity for the Hannaford Helps Recycle Bag Program for the Month of February. Buy your blue Karma bag at the Swanton Hannaford and $1 goes to the SAC! There is also a drop box for cash donations.
      You can help spread the word by liking and share the SAC videos on Facebook.

ST. ALBANS--BBP makes their debut at 14th Star on Friday at 6 p.m.
      Bruce Patenaude, Bill Jock, and Pat Maddix play familiar favorites from over four decades in their first time at the Brewery.


Friday-Saturday
ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents the child of the eighties and self-declared old soul Giovanina Bucci on Friday and Twiggs' favorite Sean Casey on Saturday. Shows begin at 7 p.m.

Friday-Tuesday SHELDON--Love Is in the Air at the Abbey with dinner music and candlelight starting Saturday night at 5 p.m.

SOUTH BURLINGTON--Higher Ground and WOKO present Jamie Lee Thurston in the Ballroom on Saturday at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30.
      Vermont's own All American country singer/songwriter lives in Nashville has traveled back home. He has appeared on the Grand Ole Opry and has recorded under contract with View 2, Warner Bros., Country Thunder, and Snakebit.
      Admission is $10 in advance and $15 day of show. Click here for tickets.

ST. ALBANS--The Room at 14th Star Brewing hosts the Show The Love Gala + Food Drive on Sunday from 5-8. Show The Love will help stock the local food shelves.
      A donation of at least six non-perishable food items gets you into this lavish pre-Valentines Day event that features live piano music from Melinda Lussier, appetizers and finger-foods from Smokin' Butt's Bar-B-Q, Specialty Cocktails, and the debut of the 14th Star Chocolate Cherry Stout on tap.


Wednesday
STOWE--The Town and Country Resort presents The Western Abenaki: History and Culture on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.
      Jeanne Brink will examine the importance in Abenaki society of elders and children, the environment, and the continuance of lifeways and traditions. This Vermont Humanities Council event is organized by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute of the Lamoille Valley.


DANCE

ST. ALBANS--The Second Friday Dance Social takes over City Hall on Friday at 7 p.m.
      The evening will begin with two 30-minute dance lessons to teach the basics of East Coast Swing and Waltz and will offer open dancing until 10. These lessons are geared toward beginners.
      Admission is $15 per person or $10/student (high school or college) for lessons and dancing, and $10 per person for dancing only (if you enter after 8pm), at the door.


FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF

FAIRFAX--The Fairfax Community Library Fiction Book Group discusses The Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri Thursday, February 9, 6:30-8pm. This Pulitzer Prize winner is collection of nine short stories about the lives of Indians and Indian Americans who are caught between their roots and the "New World."
      Tech Help on Saturday from 9-11am is a chance to ask Josiah any tech question and/or bring in a device with which you need help. Call to reserve a half hour time slot, or drop in.


FAIRFIELD--The Bent Northrop Memorial Library has Food for Thought this evening at 6 p.m. Bridget Rivet thinks about savory soups.


GEORGIA--The Georgia Public Library Brick-Builders' Club meets on the second Friday of the month from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Children 5 and up are welcome to use their imaginations to build brick projects and parents encouraged to attend.


MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Public Library Book-to-Film Potluck features Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters by Capt. Chesley Sully Sullenberger with Jeffrey Zaslow on Wednesday at 2:45-5:30 p.m.


RICHFORD--Babar invites you to the Stuffed Animal Sleepover at the A.A. Brown Library on Friday with drop offs between 3-5 p.m. Visit aabrown.org for more info.


ST. ALBANS--The St. Albans Public Library Classic Movie Night features Gold Diggers of 1933 this evening at 6 p.m. Romance, comedy, and dance come together as down-and-out performers try to figure out how to bankroll a Broadway production. Films are shown on the 4' by 6' screen in the upstairs conference room cinema. Admission is free, along with popcorn and beverage.
      The Tuesday Night Book Group Reads Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
