The Big Music Weeks of Summer wrap up on Labor Day with concerts in Burlington, Essex Junction, Middlebury, St. Albans, and more. BIG MUSIC WEEKS
ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on the knitted hats, scarves, shawls of Jan Brosky, digital art by Melvin Harris, potter Elizabeth Martin's work, and photographs by Frank McDonough. ART ON THE WALLS
The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception and presentations with refreshments and a raffle today 4:30 - 7 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of September.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 40 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery, newly reopened at 10 South Main Street, is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here for more info.
SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council needs art supplies and craft items so they are asking for donations of unused supplies. The donated items will be shared the Makerspace, used for community art projects, and shared with the art community of Swanton. IN THE SAC
All arts and craft supplies are welcome; they are looking for all types of artist or craft paint, unopened cans of spray paint, crayons and colored pencils in any condition, and much more. Click here for the entire list.
There is a drop off box at the Swanton Free Public Library or email to arrange a pick up of larger items.
Thursday ON STAGE LIVE
ST. ALBANS--The One Fed Summer Concert Series presents Donna Thunder and the Storm to close out the 2016 series this evening at 7 p.m.
The summer concert series has had performers under the tents and draft specials every Thursday, rain or shine.
ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers the Nobby Reed Project tonight at 7 p.m.

Thursday-Sunday
BURLINGTON--The Breakwaters Summer lineup continues with Starline Rhythm Boys this evening, Phil Abair Band on Friday, Mr. French Saturday, and Cooper & Lavoie Sunday to wrap up the season. Bands have played from 6-9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6-10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and 3-6 p.m on Sundays.
Thursday through Labor Day
ST. ALBANS--Twiggs presents Graziano, Scofield, and Slim on Thursday, Robin Gottfried Band on Friday, Smyth and Croteau on Saturday, and the Jeff Salisbury Band on Labor Day. Music begins at 7 p.m. each evening.
The lineup: GSS is a trio formed from the ashes of Vermont's Swamp Donkey; they play roots and rock-a-billy music. Burlington singer/songwriter Robin Gottfried is joined by Paul Eddy on bass and Ian Koeller, percussion. John Smyth and Jenn Croteau perform his homespun originals in that space between folk and acoustic blues/rock and handpicked covers. The music vets of the Salisbury Band, Stephen Thurston on guitar and dobro, Robert Butterfield on harmonica and guitar, Thomas Buckley on bass, and Jeffrey Salisbury on drums play Blues and vintage R&B.

ESSEX JUNCTION--The Ten Best Days of Summer continues through Labor Day as the Champlain Valley Fair hosts Vermont's Music Showcase on the Koffee Kup Stage in the Adsit Building every day at 11, 1:30 and 5:30.
The Showcase features Brett Hughs, Milton Busker, Micah Plante, Steve Hartmann, Leather Bound Books, and Summer Sounds favorite Troy Millette. The Music Gazebo offers Ana D'Leon, Chris & Erica, Bethany Connor, and Root 7.

MIDDLEBURY--51 Main, "Middlebury's premiere lounge and social space," presents Carol Ann Jones with Middlebury College grad Will Patton on Friday at 7 p.m.

Saturday
ST. ALBANS--The Saint Albans Museum hosts local genealogist Joanne Polanshek in a presentation on the life of Jeffrey Brace and his connections to St. Albans in the Bliss Room on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
After his military service, Mr. Brace was honorably discharged and freed from slavery. In 1784, he moved to Vermont, the first state to make slavery illegal. There he married, bought a farm in Poultney, and raised a family.
UVM offers a $500 book award in his name "to students who exemplify academic excellence and an active commitment to achieving social and economic justice."
The lecture is free and open to the public.
AROUND THE COUNTY--Most libraries will be closed on Labor Day. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
FAIRFAX--The Fairfax Community Library hosts an Edible/Medicinal Plants Walk lead by Laurie DiCesare on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Ms. DiCesare planned this walk around the rec trails to look at the native plants and discuss the botany, habitat, and ecology of those grounds. Many native plants are edible or medicinal and have other uses. The rain date is Sunday.
The walk costs $8. Call 802.849.2420 to pre-register.
