ST. ALBANS--Corliss Blakely has branched out into a new creative area. "I bought this blouse," she said, "and then realized I didn't have a scarf that went with it." She had to paint a silk scarf for herself and did a few extra. Now is possible to wear a Corliss Blakely original, inspired by her love of nature. They reflect the colors in her paintings and are all hand signed. ART ON THE NECK

ST. ALBANS--St. Albans Community Arts is up and running online with a blog and calendar, plus Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts. They will offer monthly events in downtown St. Albans, and more. IN THE ARTS COUNCILS

Thursday ON STAGE LIVE
SOUTH HERO--The Blue Paddle Bistro presents Carol Ann Jones in a solo show this evening at 6:30 p.m.
The Blue Paddle has limited seating and a small bar so call ahead (802.372.4814) for reservations.

MONTPELIER--The Spice on Snow Festival presents the Young Tradition Touring Group, Starline Rhythm Boys, and more. The Boys play at Sweet Melissa's tonight at 8 p.m. for a small cover charge at the door. The Young Tradition concert is in Bethany Church on Saturday at 5 p.m. for free.
Spice on Snow is four days of traditional, Cajun, blues, honky tonk, stringband, and even banjo funk concerts and workshops in venues spread across downtown Montpelier.
The Young Tradition Touring Group includes 20 auditioned members ranging in age from 12 to 20. Most members are from Vermont with participants from Maine, Massachusetts and Quebec. The Boys are Danny Coane who writes and sings, picks banjo and guitar; Billy Bratcher, upright "slap" bass; and Al Lemery, Fender "widow maker."

ST. ALBANS--Cooie sings Twiggs on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Cooie DeFrancesco brings lyrics to life, singing and picking traditional tunes and popular songs with a dollop of blues, a touch of jazz, a bit of folk and some old time Rock and Roll.

CONTEMPORARY ART SURVEY (February 20)--The Fort Collins Lincoln Center hosts this annual national juried show for U.S. visual artists working in all media. Entries should reflect the wide world of issues, objects, imagery, and ideas. Upcoming, the Center has a call for contemporary art quilts. Cash awards, entry fee. Click here for more info. AWARDS FOR ARTISTS AND WRITERS WITH CHILDREN (February 26)--The Sustainable Arts Foundation seeks entries for the ten Spring 2016 awards totaling $40,000 in unrestricted cash. Small entry fee. Click here to enter.
DONOR RECOGNITION FEATURE (February 29)--The Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami has issued an Open Call to all professional artists residing in the U.S. for a commission to design a work that will celebrate and honor patrons of significant new gifts to the Center. STRUCTURES (March 7)--Exhibitions Without Walls invites photographers and digital artists to submit images for its first 2016 competition. Structures are everywhere. CAMERA USA™ 2016 (March 16)--The sixth annual juried bricks and mortar national photography exhibition in Naples, Florida, offers a single cash award of $5,000. It is open to U.S. photographers. Online entry fee. Call 239-262-6517, email or click here for more info.
RECYCLE (March 22)--The juried show wants art crafted from cast-off, discarded and repurposed materials. It will exhibit sophisticated 2-D and 3-D art created in the re-use genre. FAIRFAX--The Fairfax Community Library Armchair Travels program goes Walking the Camino de Santiago in France and Spain this evening at 6 p.m. No passport required for the pictures and stories from a five week trek by Enosburg resident Claudia Rose along the historic pilgrimage route.
The Seed Swap on Saturday at 11 a.m. is for extra current fruit, vegetable, and flower seeds to swap with neighbors to add to the variety gardens this spring. The program is free but all participants must bring some seeds to share.
ST. ALBANS--Busy day today at the St Albans Public Library. Mornings, Muffins & Mysteries has a sting with The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie King this morning at 10:30 a.m. This book is the first meeting between fifteen-year-old Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes. The Writers' Medley for writers to share their work with peers will take over the room this afternoon at 2 p.m. Call Wanda (802.524.1507) for a helpful prompt. Astronomy Club meets this evening at 6:30 p.m. Like-minded enthusiasts eager to share their knowledge and love of the sky.
Stir the Pot is a book discussion group that will have you reading, cooking and eating on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The Library shelves have cookbooks with recipes for chocolate. Mmmm, chocolate.
CreativeGround has changed and updated their Teaching Artist website entries. Teachers who either teach an arts discipline or integrate the arts into a non-arts subject will find it easier to describe their specialty in the "teaching artist" section and there are new settings for subject areas, ages, fees, and certifications. CreativeGround is a free online directory to spotlight the creative people and places at work in the six New England states. CLICK HERE: ART SITE OF THE WEEK
"Explore" is a unique alternative to the site's Search tool and a good way to find Teaching Artists.
