BURLINGTON and SHELBURNE--Gail Salzman suggests gallery hopping on Friday since she has not one but "two opening receptions timed perfectly to celebrate the holiday season." Both shows will display Ms. Salzman's new work alongside other area artists. Genres, sizes, and prices fit many gift budgets. ART ON THE WALLS
The BCA Center in downtown Burlington holds an opening reception for Local Sale on Friday evening from 5-8 p.m. The annual show showcases small, affordable works by Vermont artists. All work is available for purchase and carry. Sale proceeds support the artists and BCA's gallery education scholarship fund. The artists include Ms. Salzman, and Mary Admasian, Ethan Bond-Watts, Elizabeth Ciano, Roger Coleman, Diane Gabriel, Adrienne Ginter, John Gonter, Mary Fran Lloyd, Kate Longmaid, Susan Osgood, Ken Russack, Joe Salerno, and Johanne Yordan.
The Holiday Show at Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery in Shelburne has its opening reception on Friday as well, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. That show has works by 16 artists and features Ms. Salzman's large painting, Passage.
SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council hosts a free It Only Hurts When I Craft workshop on Thursday at 6 p.m. Craftmaster Judy Paxman will lead the adult class in Creating Holiday Cards. IN THE SAC
Ms. Paxman will repeat the class for the next session in the ongoing Swanton Arts Council's series of Crafternoons in the King's Daughters Room of the Swanton Public Library on Friday at 2 p.m.

SOUTH HERO--Carol Ann Jones had to cancel her solo show at the Blue Paddle Bistro this evening. She's "fit for coughing but not for singing," she said.

ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap at the Lincoln Inn presents Summer Sounds favorite Jenni Johnson and Friends this evening at 7 p.m.
Next up, Justice rocks the taps on Friday night at 9 p.m. Gary Greeno, lead vocals; Scott Belisle on bass and backup vocals; Rod Bushey, lead guitar; Mike Stella, drums; and Scott Guptill, rhythm guitar and backup vocals; Justice will get you ready to do the turkey.
The Contois School of Music Band performs Saturday at 5 p.m. This CSM show features classics, some new tunes, and uptown funk.

ST. ALBANS--Cooie sings Twiggs on Friday at 7 p.m. then Jack Grimmer bends strings on eleventy-seven guitars on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Cooie DeFrancesco brings lyrics to life, singing and picking traditional tunes and popular songs with a dollop of blues, a touch of jazz, a bit of folk and some old time Rock and Roll. Mr. Grimmer has been playing acoustic, electric and bass guitar with bands for nearly 30 years.

FOCAL POINT (Today, November 19)--Act fast! Maryland Federation of Art's 5th annual, an open-juried all photography competition is open to any original 2-D or 3-D work created in any form of photography. RECYCLED, REPURPOSED, RECOVERED (November 25)--My kind of show. Found Object Art is the sixth annual international juried exhibition of the AD Gallery at UNC. Acceptable works recycle found objects in two-dimensional, three-dimensional, installation or digital media (including video based media). DC INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL (December 1)--DCIFF seeks strong art/experimental films with cutting edge content and welcomes interactive or installation films. CELL PHONE PHOTOGRAPHY IV: MOVING PAST THE CAMERA (December 7)--The Texas Photographic Society exhibition is open only to images taken with a cell phone camera by all levels of photographers internationally. Images can only be manipulated with a cell phone app. No Photoshop adjustments on the computer are permitted although use of Photoshop Express is acceptable. Entry Fee. ENOSBURG FALLS--The Enosburgh Public Library has apple cider and donuts to "give thanks with the Library" on Monday at 11 a.m. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
FAIRFAX--The Fairfax Community Library continues the Vermont Movie series, Freedom & Unity: One State--Many Visions this evening at 6 p.m. The film screening and discussion series looks at our state with a six-part series of films. Part 2 tonight explores "Under the Surface" with a discussion of the labor wars, McCarthy era and progressive Republicanism led by film maker Louise Michaels.
There is Tech Help on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. Library techie Josiah will hold 30 minute sessions to answer any tech question or help with devices.
FAIRFIELD--Bent Northrup Memorial Library has a Hard Cider Making Workshop today at 6 p.m. Anne Whyte from Vermont Homebrew Supply in Winooski will teach how to make hard cider at home. The library will have ingredients and equipment on hand.
INTERNATIONAL GAMES DAY--Libraries will celebrate on Saturday with new games to play or check out. There will be board games, card games, puzzles, video games and more for all ages and skill levels.
Fairfax will host games from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Bent Northrup will play from 10 a.m.-noon.
The Milton Library will host serious gamers from Fairfax, Georgia, and Milton from 9:30-3:30 p.m. for a regional celebration.
MONTGOMERY--The second annual Montgomery Public Library Creative Writing Contest "was an excellent night!" The library had thirteen writers and a full house of family and friends.
Everyone went home with a prize and specific comments about their works. The library plans another contest next spring.
SHELDON--The Sheldon Public Library Book Discussion Group will meet for a snack and lively discussion of JP Choquette's Restitution on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Restitution is her fourth book and the second in the Tayt Waters mystery series.
All adults are welcome.
ST. ALBANS--Busy day today at the St Albans Public Library. Mornings, Muffins & Mysteries tackles Haunted Ground by Erin Hart this morning at 10:30 a.m. The Writers' Medley for writers to share their work with peers will take over the room this afternoon at 2 p.m. Call Wanda (802.524.1507) for a helpful prompt. Astronomy Club meets this evening at 6:30 p.m. Like-minded enthusiasts eager to share their knowledge and love of the sky.
Stir the Pot is a book discussion group that will have you reading, cooking and eating on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The Library shelves have cookbooks for recipes for appetizers.
