ST. ALBANS--The Northwest Nightmares Film Festival comes to the Welden Theater on Monday at 6 p.m. FLICKERS
St. Albans is the Vermont home for horror as Northwest Access Television presents the festival and competition for locally produced short horror films. The films are judged in multiple categories and film makers could win "a killer prize" along with "major bragging rights."
There will be a prize for best costume. There will be an afterparty at 14th Star to meet the makers.

ENOSBURG--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls hosts its second Sip and Paint event at the House on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. ART ON THE WALLS
Rebecca Bennett, local artist and owner of The Blue Crayon Studio, will teach sketching, color schemes and painting; participants will bring home a completed canvas. All materials included.
The cost is $25 to pre-register or $30 for walk-ins. The spring event sold out.
Friday ON STAGE LIVE
MORRISVILLE--River Arts hosts the Word!Craft open mic on Friday at 7 p.m. with sign ups at 6:30.
This unusual open mic is a spoken word, hip hop, participatory experience for all ages featuring poetry and rhymes. The first half of the evening will be devoted to spoken word and the second half to hip hop, including written pieces and freestyle cypher, where each participant follows the next in an improvised flow. Word!Craft was created in the Northeast Kingdom by Jeffrey Ellis (aka Mycelium MC) and Jon Pepe (aka DJ Cruchee). The monthly event has visited Hardwick, Montpelier, Plainfield, Greensboro Bend, Craftsbury Common, and Burlington.
Admission is by suggested donation of $5.
BARRE--The Barre Opera House presents Don McLean on Friday at 8 p.m.
Mr. McLean is one of America's most enduring singer-songwriters with his hits American Pie, Vincent (Starry Starry Night), Castles in the Air, And I Love You So and Crying. Since first hitting the charts in 1971, he has amassed over 40 gold and platinum records.

ST. ALBANS--Backstreet hosts its annual Halloween Costume Party with Justice on Friday at 9:30 p.m.
The pre- Halloween Bash is "always a blast in or out of costume." Come have some goulish fun with the chief ghouls of the night: Scott Belisle on bass and backup vocals; Todd Dunn, lead and rhythm guitar; Gary Greeno, lead vocals; Mike Stella, drums; and Mr. Guptill, rhythm guitar and backup vocals. "It's our last show in St. Albans for 2015."
Friday and Saturday ST. ALBANS--The Twiggs Up in Flames show is a "Musicians Helping Musicians" benefit event with five (or more) solo musicians in the back room on Saturday at 6 p.m. Steve Hartmann, Bethany Conner, Troy Millette, Kyle Stevens, and Sean Casey will perform all evening.
Local music maker Sean Casey's car burst into flames when he was returning from a gig in August. Mr. Casey was "relatively unscathed" and he saved a few guitars but his sound gear got all melted and crispy. Speakers, soundboards, mics, stands, and hundreds of cables.
Admission is by $5 donation. The musicians are volunteering their time and Twiggs is has donated the space. All proceeds go to replacing Mr. Casey's gear.
Next up, Twiggs presents Vern Colburn tickling the ivories on Friday at 5:30 p.m.

Saturday
ST. ALBANS--Dress up your denim for an evening of Mardi Gras at the 7th annual Blue Jean Ball in the American Legion Hall on Saturday at 6 p.m.
The denim dinner is catered by Bayview, with dessert by Sweetie Pies, a wine pull, live and silent auctions, a DJ and dancing, and much more. There will be beads!
Admission is $50 per person or $400 for tables of eight people. All proceeds benefit Franklin County Home Health Agency. Click here for tickets.
Sunday
ST. ALBANS--The U.S. Air Force Concert Band and the Singing Sergeants will perform in concert in the Collins Perley Sports and Fitness Center on Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Concert Band performs a wide variety of music ranging from classical transcriptions and original works to solo features, light classics, popular favorites and patriotic selections. The Singing Sergeants perform a wide range of music from traditional Americana, opera, and choral standards to modern Broadway and jazz.
The 53-member Concert Band is the Air Force's premier symphonic wind ensemble and the largest of six musical ensembles of the U.S. Air Force Band. The Singing Sergeants chorus has 23 active duty Airmen musicians. They play regularly with their instrumental combo and in smaller configurations, such as duets, barbershop quartets, and specialized ensembles. Both groups tour the country widely and give live radio, television and Internet performances.
Admission is free but you must have a ticket. Free tickets are available at the St. Albans Messenger.
ENOSBURG--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls invites you to join the cast of this year's holiday production, A Seussified Christmas Carol. The final auditions will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. There will be improv work and readings from the script. CALL FOR THESPIANS
The whimsical reinvention of Dickens' famed Christmas story has wacky rhymed couplets, zoot fruited juices, and binka bird geese.
Rehearsals will be Sundays 1-3 p.m., and Wednesdays and Thursdays at 5:30-7:30 p.m. The performances will be December 18-19.
