25th ANNIVERSARY MUSIC FEST
The
25th anniversary Summer Sounds Benefit Music Festival is
coming together for next weekend. The all day concert will take over the Franklin
County Field Days site next Sunday, September 20, the last summer Sunday this year. Gates will open at noon and the music will start around 2.The stage will fill with star power from the first decade of the series, anchored by Jenni Johnson and the Jazz Junketeers with Banjo Dan, Tammy Fletcher, Jon Gailmor, the Summer Sounds singers, and more. September is Childhood Cancer Month. The festival will help programming at Camp Ta-Kum-Ta and will raise money to build a band shell for the next 25 years of music in Highgate.
The 2015 Summer Sounds concerts were sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling Co. Inc, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin & Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies Tubing.

ART ON THE WALLS
BSA artists will have works in mixed media, water color, acrylic, oil, weaving, cross stitch, encaustic, block print, photography on exhibit and there will be books by several local authors for sale.
The special art raffle this year has paintings by Mary Ellen Bushey and Pat Burton. The Village Frame Shoppe has those works on preview in the front windows. Raffle tickets are available there in advance or throughout the weekend at the Show. The raffle benefits St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
The opening reception offers a chance to mingle and meet participating artists and will have refreshments.

ST. ALBANS--The Twiggs Music Weekend presents Bob Young In The Window on Friday at 7 p.m. and Deja Nous on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Jean-Jacques Psaute has performed as lead vocalist first with The Romance of Paris and currently with Deja Nous. The group's repertoire showcases popular and jazz songs in the Music-Hall tradition of French Cabaret.

STOWE--The Peak VTartists Series presents the Carol Ann Jones Quartet at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center on Saturday at 8pm.
The all-star quartet features Ms. Jones, acoustic guitar and vocals; Will Patton, mandolin, steel guitar, dobro and upright bass; Dono Schabner, electric guitar; and Gary Spaulding on the acoustic drum box called a cajone.

FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Enosburgh Public Library has retired some of its Vermont Collection to make room for 27 new, updated titles. The collection will be auctioned on Saturday at noon.
The Vermont-themed get-together features a Teacup Auction for each retired book. Tickets will be sold for 25 cents each. Add one or more tickets to each book’s teacup to place your bid. Bidding will take place until 1:30 p.m., and winners will be announced at 2 p.m.
Included are Earle S. Kinsley's 1946, Recollections of Vermonters in State and National Affairs, as well as the work of Walter Hard, books of Vermont images, and a Vermont Encyclopedia.
FAIRFAX--The Fairfax Community Library Fiction Book Group will discuss Wendell Berry's novel The Memory of Old Jack this evening at 6:30 p.m. Copies are available now at the library.
The reminiscence set in a rural Kentucky river town looks at the life of a retired farmer through the shades of just one September day in 1952.
GEORGIA--The Georgia Public Library has a new website and a new web address. The site includes an online catalog, youth and adult pages, a calendar to come, and images of the library.
ST. ALBANS--Construction is moving forward at the St Albans Free Library which reopened on Tuesday. The ramp is now accessible and the paved walkway and parking will be finished soon.
Classic Movie Night this evening at 6 p.m. features Horse Feathers. The 1932 flick starred Groucho Marx as the newly installed president of Huxley College who enlists the help of Chico and Harpo to help him "fix" the school. Films are shown on the 4' by 6' screen in the upstairs conference room cinema. Admission is free, along with popcorn and beverage.
The Classic Readers Book Group will meet Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. to discuss The Painted Veil by W. Somerset Maugham. Set in England and Hong Kong in the 1920s, this is the story of the beautiful, but love-starved Kitty Fane.
SWANTON--The Any Book Book Club meets at the Swanton Free Public Library this evening at 6 p.m.
The new Game Night on Wednesday at 5 p.m. will fill the library with rampant capitalism, plagues of epic proportions, and thievery on the high seas.
Library Assistant Caleb Rupp has redesigned Game Night from the board up. "I
want to start doing themed game nights," he said. "I've
been getting great donations from game companies." He will start with what gamers know as Euro-heavy, cooperative board games Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, and Merchants & Marauders.
