Summer Sounds is resting up for the big 25th Anniversary Benefit Festival next month but there is still plenty of music playing with concerts and events in East Fairfield, Enosburg Falls, Jeffersonville, Milton, Montgomery, St. Albans, and South Hero. BIG MUSIC WEEKS OF SUMMER
ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts nature/macro photographer Michael Purcell of Milton this month. Mr. Purcell is known for his "Four Faces of Vermont" and other themes. His images are vibrant, often using High Dynamic Range techniques. ART ON THE WALLS
The show continues through the end of September.
MORRISVILLE--The River Arts Gallery opens a special two-week exhibition of the late Dohrn Zachai's private collection of paintings, drawings, sketchbooks and writing from her studio in Johnson. The show opened Monday and will continue through September 9.
River Arts will hold a memorial celebration of Ms. Zachai's life on Saturday from 5-7 p.m.
Gallery hours are Monday - Thursday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Fridays 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Admission is free. Call 802.888.1261 or click here for more info.
Thursday ON STAGE LIVE
ST. ALBANS--The One Fed Summer Concert Series presents No Left Turn this evening at 7 p.m. The quintet of Jeff Chapman, Dave DuPrat, Mark Goldstein, Dick Lees, and Scott Russell plays classic rock and blues.
The summer concert series has performers under the tents every Thursday, rain or shine.
Friday
MILTON--The Friday Night LIVE series presents dynagrrrl Carol Ann Jones with string wizard Will Patton at Arrowhead Golf Course on Friday evening at 6:30 p.m.
Not Just for golfers, the series offers the community a free musical night out. They usually have a buffet or burger bar.
EAST FAIRFIELD--Summer Evenings with Vermont Treasures presents a concert with Woods Tea Company at the Meeting House on the Green on Friday at 7 p.m. It will be an evening of .
Vermont's own folk company performs rich and fiery Celtic tunes, bluegrass, sea shanties, and American folk songs, all tied together with stories and laughs. The trio includes Howard Wooden, formerly of St. Albans, Vermont singer/songwriter Patti Casey, and "Vermont's greatest living folk musician," Pete Sutherland.

Saturday
JEFFERSONVILLE--Cambridge Arts Council and others sponsor the 5th annual Cambridge Music Festival at the soon-to-be Cambridge Community Center on Saturday from 2-10 p.m.
The Music Festival showcases New England musicians, singers, and songwriters. This year's lineup include Kim & Sharon, Grundlefunk, Hayley Jane and the Primates, Right Coast Leftovers, Christine Malcolm, Cricket Blue, and Almost Nowhere.
All proceeds from the event go to Cambridge 360, the local organization that raises funds for projects like building the community center. Click here for more info.
ENOSBURG--The Friends of the Opera House bring the long strange trip around to Enosburg Falls with the Rose Wharf Band and Caravan in the House on Saturday at 7 pm.
"We decided that we were going to perform songs that we have a deep passion for -- and our main influence for all of these years, has been the Grateful Dead."
The Taunton, MA, quintet does a set-list-free lineup of Dead songs, along with material by the Allman Brothers, the Beatles, Creedence, Hot Tuna, Little Feat, the New Riders of the Purple Sage, the Rolling Stones and Neil Young. "You just never know what you will hear at our show."

MONTGOMERY--Big Jay Tavern presents the Missisquoi River Band on Saturday at 8 p.m. This is their first of two events this weekend for Cindy Weed, stand up bass; Jim Weed, lead and rhythm guitar; and artist Pat Murphy, guitar; to play their special blend of bluegrass inspired originals.

Sunday
SOUTH HERO--The third annual Champlain Islands Farm and Food Festival presents the Missisquoi River Band at Health Hero Farm on Sunday 3-6 p.m.
The day offers free pizza with all local toppings from the Northeast Organic Farming Association traveling pizza oven, free local popcorn, face painting, and mini-classes, demonstrations, and tastings by Islands Farmers and producers.

Sunday through Labor Day ESSEX JUNCTION--The Champlain Valley Fair opens Saturday and continues through Labor Day. The Fair hosts Vermont's Music Showcase on the Koffee Kup Stage in the Adsit Building every day.
The Music Gazebo highlights some of the best musicians in Vermont. Vermont singer/songwriter Bethany Connor plays the Gazebo Friday. Chittenden County's Root 7 runs from punk to Phil Collins to originals on Saturday. Musician, songwriter, comedian, performer Troy Millette comes on strong on Sunday. 14 year old Rosie Newton can't drive down from Saint Albans but she'll take the roof off the Gazebo on Monday.

Wednesday
EAST BERKSHIRE--Heather McKeown presents Chris Farrell in concert on Wednesday at about 7 p.m.
"Just when I thought I was completely out of the concert biz, Chris made me an offer I couldn't refuse," she wrote.
Songwriter, recording artist, and actor-of-note, Mr. Farrell has put Ms. McKeown's house on his tour. He was a member of the Covered Bridges Theater troupe and performed on the deck over her septic tank during the early years of Highbrow to Hoedown.
If it's nice out, bring a chair and it will be another backyard evening. In case of rain, just take off your shoes at the front door for a house concert.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs offers Music to Dine By with relaxed music and the arts. This week,
Bob Young is in the Window on Thursday at 7 p.m., Vern Colburn is in the Dining Room on Friday at 5:30, and Elliott Johnson brings a solo act of intricate classic rock tunes on Saturday at 7 p.m. They have three stages with live piano, violin, or light guitar any day of the week in the dining room, the Window, or the main stage. The Cabaret offers live performances by musicians, visual artists, poets, and more. The regular Open Mic Night repeats next Wednesday and on the first Wednesday of every month. Their Open Comedy Night for comics 18 and older is held on the third Tuesday of every month. Mr. Colburn is Live on the Piano most Friday Nights, Dayve Huckett on the guitar on the first and third Saturday, and additional performances by Abby Road, Bobby Cee, Mint Julep, Sean Ashby, and Sean Casey.

ST. ALBANS--The St. Albans Free Library will be closed August 31-September 7 to make way for the work on a new parking and handicap access. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
There will be no access to the bookdrop; do not return materials while they are closed.
Meanwhile, the Friday Afternoon Comedies presents Who Framed Roger Rabbit? on Friday at 1 p.m. The 1988 Walt Disney movie stars Bob Hoskins as the toon hating detective who is the cartoon rabbit's only hope to prove his innocence when he is accused of murder.
The library shows a newsreel, cartoon, and trailer of coming attractions before each weekly movie. All films are shown on the 4' by 6' screen in the upstairs conference room "cinema." Admission is free, along with popcorn and a beverage.
