BRANDING OUR SOUNDS
IGHGATE--Chevalier
Drilling Co. Inc, the All Arts Council and the Town of Highgate will "brand" the
Municipal Park as the 25th annual Summer
Sounds concert series continues at home in Highgate with John Geno's Branded on
Sunday at 7 p.m.Each concert this summer has brought back a group that played the first years of this popular series. We introduced a North Country rock band in 2000:
Branded was a popular rock-n-roll band in the 90s. The group now plays as NoCoLocal and is coming back together for this one show with John Geno, vocals, guitar, sax, fiddle, pedal steel; Jeff Wenig, guitar; Peter Grosskopf, vocals and bass guitar; Ron Gregoire, vocals, keyboards, guitar, sax; and Donnie Santamoor, drums and percussion.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling Co. Inc, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin & Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m., always in a town park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair as you settle in to enjoy outdoor family music and festivities. Click here for the schedule.
ART ON THE WALLS
Each chair is sponsored by a St. Albans business, organization, or community member. Bruce G. Wood Designs in Essex built the chairs and each is decorated by a local artist.
There are 28 decorated Adirondack chairs up for auction. The fundraiser goes to The Ladies of the Fountain campaign and the St. Albans Downtown Merchants Group. Sharon Holcomb and members of the St. Albans Downtown Merchants Group spearheaded the public art project.
Tickets to the auction are $10 each and are available at Bayberry Cottage, What a Yarn or How the Crow Flies. Each ticket includes a bidding paddle and a Chair Affair glass filled with a free drink from 14th Star or Due North Vineyard. Local Fare will do an $8 rib dinner and there will be entertainment by Mike McCarthy.
ON STAGE LIVE
ST. ALBANS--The One Fed Summer Concert Series presents the Nobby Reed Project this evening at 7 p.m. Vermont's best known blues trio includes Mr. Reed on lead guitar and vocals, Eric Belrose, percussion, and Ray Bushey on bass.

Friday
ST. ALBANS TOWN--CVAA and the Swanton School House Lunch Bunch host the 3rd annual CVAA Summer BBQ Picnic at Saint Albans Bay Park on Friday from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Karlo & Carolyn will lead the music, singing, and dancing.

ST. ALBANS--The Downtown Summer Concert Series presents IncaHoots in the E.A. Loomis Bandshell in Taylor Park on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
The concert is free. Food and drink will be available.
STOWE--Harrison's has "classic country pickin' & singin'" with string magician Will Patton and ace flatpicker Mark Struhsacker in what is sounding like a regular gig on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
SHELDON--Summer Music at Grace continues with Frevo at the Grace Church on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
The word frevo is said to come from frever, from the Portuguese word ferver, to boil. Frevo itself means a wide range of exciting musical styles. The group, formerly known as the Klimowski-Mathews Ensemble, is Bonnie Klimowski, cello; Steven Klimowski, clarinet and bass clarinet; Wendy Matthews, flute; and Peter Matthews, classical guitar. They will play compositions by Gismonti, Piazzolla, Gershwin, Gnattalli, Lennon and McCartney and others with fervor.

Saturday
MONTGOMERY--The Friends of the Montgomery Town Library and the Montgomery Historical Society present Woods Tea Company in Pratt Hall on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Everyone has heard of Woods Tea Company but not everyone has heard them. Not recently, anyway. The New England trio plays smooth sea shanties, folk songs, Celtic tunes, and rowdy Irish drinking songs with Howard Wooden formerly of St. Albans, Vermont singer/songwriter Patti Casey, and "Vermont's greatest living folk musician," Pete Sutherland, who joined the group in 2013.
Admission is $15 and only a limited number of tickets will be sold. Tickets are available at Lutz' Automotive, the Montgomery Town Library, and the door.
SWANTON--Justice will blow the roof off the HD Campbell's Barn Bash in their annual return to the event on Saturday at 8 p.m. "Get there early!" is all Scott Belisle on bass and backup vocals; Todd Dunn, lead and rhythm guitar; Gary Greeno, lead vocals; Mike Stella, drums; and Scott Guptill, rhythm guitar and backup vocals can say.

MILTON--North Country Saloon presents Dark Horse on Saturday at 9 p.m.
The Dark Horse quintet plays the best mix of country with a kick and southern rock with Bob Corbiere, bass; Bob Berger, guitar; Dan Cox, guitar; George Seymour, steel guitar, banjo, and fiddle; and Kent Blackmer, drums. All five bring strong harmony to the stage.
"You won't want to miss this one!" Mr. Corbiere said. "We're gonna get a little sideways!"
AUGUST-SEPTEMBER AFFORDABLE ART DEADLINES
E-BOOK AWARDS (August 31)--Library Journal honors the best self-published ebooks in Romance, Mystery, Science Fiction, and Fantasy. Founded in 1876, Library Journal is a trade publication for librarians. There will be one winner and two honorable mentions in each genre and each genre winner gets $1,000. All winners and honorable mentions will also receive a full LJ review, a promotional ad, and more. There are no fees for submissions, nor limits on the number of submissions an individual writer can make.

FIVE BY FIVE 2015 EXHIBITION (September 18)--Submit your 5x5" artwork in "It's
Small Art for a BIG Cause." 2D, 3D, all mediums are eligible. The Arts Council
of Hillsborough County uses Five by Five to offer original works for an affordable
price, to give all artists an opportunity to showcase work and to raise money
that will support individual artist programs. The event also enables those who
might not usually buy original art to start collecting. Visual art is sold for
flat fee. Proceeds from donated artwork fund individual artist grants and workshops

VOLUNTEERS!
We need volunteers for everything: postering, fundraising, parking, gate, food, wrangling, and park cleanup, and cake.
Highgate was the original home of Summer Sounds and we're having this bonanza in part to say "thank you!" The purpose is raise money to build a band shell in Highgate and anything "extra" will go to Camp Ta-Kum-Ta.
The Summer Sounds Festival and Fundraiser Concert will take over the Field Days site with continuous music on Sunday, September 20, the last day of summer! Email the All Arts Council for more info.
