BIG MUSIC WEEKS

FRANKLIN COUNTY--The Big Music Weeks of Summer continue today as some of our friends play multiple gigs. Summer Sounds celebrates 25 years of concerts in Highgate with a Birthday Bash. This week we find music in Burlington, Essex (NY), Highgate Center, St. Albans Bay, St. Albans, Plattsburgh, and South Hero.

BRASSY SOUNDS

HIGHGATE--The All Arts Council and the Town of Highgate continue the 25th Summer Sounds in Highgate with Vermont's best brass band.
Each concert will bring back a group that played the first decade of this popular series. We introduced a genuine brass band for their first performance in Vermont:
ArtBits News Photo     The All Arts Council presents The Constitution Brass Quintet in the Summer Sounds Birthday Bonanza concert in Highgate Municipal Park on Sunday evening at 7 p.m.
"We have a lighthearted 'Summer in the Park' brass band program," said Jo Anne Edwards of a concert that will highlight American popular music from the mid-19th to the mid-20th Century. With audience favorites in the John Philip Sousa tradition -- marches, to Dixieland, to Broadway -- the concert will feature soloists Bill Keck and Jo Anne Edwards playing literally from the Renaissance to ragtime and beyond.
"CBQ is also celebrating a 25th anniversary of playing summer in the park concerts in Vermont," she said. "We're recreating the 1993 and 1994 concerts, featuring music from two of our first shows in Franklin County."
The Constitution Brass was founded in 1983 in Connecticut and played its first Vermont concert in the Summer Sounds series in Highgate. The quintet includes Jo Anne Edwards, trumpet, Chris Rivers, trumpet, John Mead, trombone, Bill Keck, tuba, and Alan Parshley, horn. Their repertoire spans 400 years of popular music (remember, what we consider a "classic" today was popular music when new) and includes Vermont composer Gwyneth Walker's Shaker Tunes for Brass Quintet which they commissioned in 19xx. The ensemble is noted for its full family entertainment and historical commentary.
These "fine musicians also understand the value of entertaining their audiences. Their concerts are well crafted, well played and, quite simply, a lot of fun!" Ms. Walker said.
Just before the concert, stop by for the All Arts-Summer Sounds Birthday Party and Social in the Park starting around 6 p.m. The social hour is a chance to visit with friends and enjoy a cakes and ice cream, and other unbelievable desserts on a summer night.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin & Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m., always in a town park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair as you settle in to enjoy outdoor family music and festivities. Visit summer.AllArtsCouncil.org for the schedule.

They have performed in house parlors, art museums, theaters from New Orleans to Boston and toured England and Ireland.
