ENOSBURG--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls presents Randy Smith & His Band of Merry Men on Saturday at 7 p.m. THE MORE THE MERRIER
Best known in Vermont as 8084's lead singer, Mr. Smith is a singer-songwriter now based in Charlotte, North Carolina. A Billboard and International award winning musician, he has recorded six albums and toured extensively throughout the US and Canada, performing over 4,500 live shows including Summer Sounds and FloodStock. He has shared the stage with Edgar Winter, Rick Derringer, April Wine, Henry Lee Summer, and Warrant. In real life, he is the founder and principal of a web design firm.
The acoustic-unplugged evening will feature a collection from Mr. Smith's solo work as well as some 8084 favorites. The band of Merry Men include fellow 8084 mates Gary Spaulding, drums, and Roy Brown, bass and vocals, plus Hall of Fame fiddler Scott Campbell and Rich Abel on guitar.
Special guest St. Albans singer-songwriter Troy Millette will open the show.
Tickets are available at the door on the night of the performance. The Opera house now accepts credit cards. Gift certificates and multi-event passes are for sale and redeemable at Opera House events.
ST. ALBANS--The St. Albans Historical Society presents Vermont author Michelle Arnosky Sherburne in the Bliss Room on Friday at 1 p.m. for behind-the-scenes stories and details about the aftermath of the St. Albans Raid. RAIDED
Copies of her new book, The St. Albans Raid: A Confederate Attack on Vermont, will be available for purchase.
Ms. Sherburne is the production department person of the Journal Opinion in Bradford and has researched Vermont history as a free lance writer. She is also the author of Abolition & the Underground Railroad in Vermont and co-editor of A Vermont Hill Town in the Civil War: Peacham's Story. She has lived in Vermont since 1976.
MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Town Library presents Vermont author and Civil War historian Howard Coffin reprising his discussion, Vermont and the Civil War, in Montgomery Town Hall on Wednesday, October 8 at 7 p.m.
Mr. Coffin will take Vermonters from Cedar Creek to Gettysburg and show Vermont's crucial contributions to the Civil War.

ONLINE--150 years ago, a gang of Confederates stole over $200,000 from St. Albans' banks, attempted to burn the town down, and escaped to Canada. The City celebrated the anniversary with four days of activities and reenactments in Taylor Park.
Eva Sollberger of Seven Days posted a nine-minute "Stuck in Vermont" video of the 150th Anniversary of the Raid. Amazing Grace was performed by Kevin MacLeod, the Citizens Concert Band, and Leonidas Jones

CALAIS--Reflections, an exhibit at Kent Museum, has just 10 days left and will have a closing celebration on Sunday at 3 p.m. ART ON THE WALLS
The contemporary art has the unique setting of both historic space and near-peak Vermont foliage. Gail Salzman of Fairfield has paintings in the former tavern's Grand Ballroom; 30 artists fill the three floors of exhibition space.

ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on Maureen and Barry Genzlinger, Carl Newton, and Martha Ohlinger. Mr. Genzlinger hand turns tiny wooden spinning tops. Ms. Genzlinger creates colorful three-dimensional ornaments. Mr. Newton is a bentwood box maker who works largely in the Shaker tradition. Ms. Ohlinger specializes in still life oils inspired by ordinary everyday items.
The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments on Sunday from 1 - 4 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of October.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery, located at 321 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. plus the first Sunday of each month, noon to 5 p.m.
ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Blues Night with the Nobby Reed Project tonight at 7 p.m. Vermont's best known blues trio includes Eric Belrose, percussion, Ray Bushey, bass, and Mr. Reed on lead guitar and vocals. The pub has live music lined up for every evening in October. ON STAGE LIVE

HANOVER, NH--The second annual Upper Valley Oktoberfest presents Yankee Chank in the Top of the Hop at Dartmouth tomorrow evening at 6 pm.
The Vermont musicians perform traditional dance music from Southwest Louisiana. Members include Bob Naess, fiddle; Cannon Labrie, accordion; Jim Burns, guitar and fiddle; and Mark Sustic, bass and triangle.

SWANTON--Justice will blow the roof off HD Campbell's Barn at Niles Landing one more time this year on Saturday at 8 p.m. Justice keeps their rock on with Scott Belisle on bass and backup vocals; Todd Dunn, lead and rhythm guitar; Gary Greeno, lead vocals; Mike Stella, drums; and Scott Guptill, rhythm guitar and backup vocals.

PRESTO for Young String Players starts Sunday. Led by Kathleen Kono, this VYO ensemble offers young string players an introduction to ensemble playing and is perfect for those students who are ready for their first ensemble experience.
