SOUTH HERO--The Blue Paddle Bistro presents Carol Ann Jones in a solo show tonight at 6:30 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
The Blue Paddle has limited seating and a small bar so call ahead (802.372.4814) to assure a seat.
ST. ALBANS--The Twiggs Comedy For A Cause series continues on the Main Stage twice this week in a Weekend of Comedy for Franklin County Girls Softball Team Vermont Thunder as the series celebrates one year of fun and fund-raising. Comedians will take the stage Friday and Saturday evening at 7 p.m. Each girl on the team is on the honor roll and all volunteer in the community. They will give a percentage of all the money raised to the Make a Wish Foundation.
Colin Ryan of A Stand Up Life produces the show. Admission is $15. There are just 70 seats available at the restaurant. Call Nathan or Shannon Harvey (802.868.6592) or email for tickets. FAIRFAX--The Country Pantry presents singer/songwriter Troy Millette on Friday at 6 p.m.
BURLINGTON--The Zen Lounge hosts a singer/songwriter competition and open mic night on the bamboo floors on Saturday at 6 p.m. Steve Hartman hosts. Troy Millette will probably perform.
WORLDWIDE (and in ENOSBURG)--Saturday is 7th annual Record Store Day.
Metallica kicked off the very first Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Francisco on April 19, 2008. The third Saturday every April celebrates "the unique culture surrounding nearly 1000 independently owned record stores in the US and thousands of similar stores internationally." There are participating stores on every continent except Antarctica.
Store staff, customers, and artists can come together at stores in their own communities for special vinyl and CD releases, and more.
"We do sell vinyl records," said Ben Maddox of the Flying Disc in Enosburg Falls.
Around the state, Buch Spieler Music, Montpelier; Burlington Records, Burlington; Exile On Main Street, Barre; In The Moment Records, Brattleboro; Mountain Man Jewelry/Mountain Music Vinyl, Rutland; Pure Pop, Burlington; Speaking Volumes, Burlington; Turn It Up!, Brattleboro; and the Vermont Music Library & Shop in Burlington are participating.

64th ANNUAL ART OF THE NORTHEAST (April 25)--The Silvermine Arts Center juried show is open to all media. Awards include Best in Show with a $3,000 prize and a solo exhibition at Silvermine in New Canaan, CT. Artists must reside in Vermont (and some other states). Entry fee. ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE (May 5)--The Enosburg Falls cooperative gallery will host a jury session for Vermont artists. The gallery has a limited number of memberships available for two- and three-dimensional artists for the 2014-15 year. The Artist in Residence is an artist-owned and operated cooperative gallery that serves northern Vermont and southern Quebec. It has annual dues, no fees, and each member devotes a few days to operate the gallery.

ART ON THE REFUGE (May 10)--The Missisquoi Wildlife Refuge wants any two dimensional medium -- oil, acrylics, watercolor, pen and ink, pastels, photographs or fabric -- that is hangable, as long as it relates to the Refuge landscape. Images of water, the lake, river, marsh, forest, wildlife, wildflowers, fields, bugs, weeds, sky, and people are welcome. Skyscrapers not so much. Photographs must have been taken on the Refuge, or from the River or Lake adjacent to the Refuge. There is a hanging fee of $15 per piece. There is no sales commission. The exhibit will run May 17 through July 18 at the Refuge.

ART IN BLOOM (Until Filled)--There are still spaces for the festival of art, crafts and music will be held in Fairfax on July 26. Now in its 8th year, the event is a fund raiser for the BFA-Fairfax Nordic Ski Team.

HIGHGATE--The Town of Highgate is again part of the Statewide One-Book Community Reading Program. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
"I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse." Auggie is a 10-year-old who likes Star Wars and Xbox but his facial deformity causes others to shun him. Writer R.J. Palacio brings Auggie to life in this year's book, Wonder. It is available at both the school and town libraries.
Sam Drazin will host "Bringing Wonder to Life," a workshop for community members, on May 15.
