Stop in for live music and more at the Fairfax Music Sessions at the Foothills Bakery in Fairfax most Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m., at various restaurants around Franklin County throughout the week, at the Bayside in St Albans Town most Sunday afternoons, and the Cambridge CoffeeHouses at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month.

With studios open around the state plus four big shows locally, this very Fall-like weekend is perfect for art hopping.
"My good friend Carol Crawford and I [invite you all] as a 'two-fer'," Fairfield artist Gail Salzman said. "Elements of our surrounding northern landscape -- color, movement, pattern, texture, reflection -- find their way into the art we create." OPEN STUDIO WEEKEND
Open Studio Weekend, the statewide celebration of creativity and the visual arts, gives visitors an inside look at Vermont artists and craftspeople actually working in their studios. Some 300 exhibitors are open this year, all right next to the yellow signs dotting the Vermont landscape. At least seven are right here in and near Franklin County. Studios are open Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Carol Crawford of Bakersfield handweaves chenille scarves, shawls, durable rugs, yardage, blankets, and more. The Grand Isle Artworks is open. A.I.R. member Lyna Lou Nordstrom has prints and fabric art in Shelburne. Joanne Littler's Pine Ledge Fiber Studio has shawls, scarves, rugs, linens, cards is in Fairfax. Champlainia is Liz Reardon's St Albans Bay studio where she crafts sea glass jewelry and polymer clay. Gail Salzman suggests water and landscape elements in abstract oil paintings filled with layers of translucent pigment in her Fairfield Studio. The Vermont Woodworking School with demonstrations, fine woodworking, turning, and furniture is between Fairfax and Cambridge.

ST. ALBANS--The unveiling gala for the 150th Raid Commemorative Calendar includes a reception with the artists, music by the Missisquoi River Band, plus wine and cheese in Bliss Hall of the St. Albans Historical Museum this evening at 5:30 p.m. The exhibit features the original works used in the finished calendar. Two signed calendars will be auctioned and additional calendars are for sale. ART ON THE WALLS
The MRB is Cindy and Jim Weed and Pat Murphy with special guest Will Patton. They will play an original song about the Raid and will have a CD available of the song for purchase.
Admission is $5 per person at the door.
ST. ALBANS--Jeff's Restaurant hosts the one-day only Art4Show of new works on Saturday from 1 - 4 p.m.
Everything on exhibit is "all original, most of it all new," Colleen Curran said. "It's going to be fabulous!"
The one-afternoon event features drawings, etchings, mosaics, paintings, photography, and even some books plus Jeff's own wine and cheese. Look for works by Colleen Curran, Peggy Curran, Sylvia Cymbalista, Anne Fitzpatrick, Arline Fraser, Paule Gingras, Jody Gleim, Diane O'Neill, Dale Powers, Susan Semenak, Bertrand Simard, Catherine Wallace, Trine Wilson, and James West.
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. The spotlight is on knitter Jan Brosky of Highgate, Enosburg photographer/basket-maker Maggy Young, woodturner Barry Genzlinger, and ornament maker Maureen Genzlinger, both of Milton.
"This month, the event coincides with Vermont Open Studio weekend," said Toby Fulwiler, wood carver and A.I.R. president, "so artists will be on hand to show and explain their work."
The A.I.R. gallery hosts the free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments and a monthly raffle on Sunday from 1 - 4 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of the month.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery, located at 321 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. plus the first Sunday of each month, noon to 5 p.m.
ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts 12 paintings by watercolor artists Millie Boyd, Joan Knight, Marianne Marshall, and Dolly MacNeil this month. The artists paint together weekly with artist/instructor Kathleen Berry Bergeron in St. Albans. Call Ms. Bergeron (802.899.4628) for painting and class info.
The show continues through the end of October.
MONTPELIER--The CCV Montpelier fall 2013 show, Small Works, opens with a reception on Saturday from 4-7pm at the CCV Montpelier Academic Center.
The exhibit features creative pieces by CCV’s alumni, staff, instructors, and students. The reception will include light refreshments.
ST. ALBANS--The Twiggs In the Window series presents Jack Grimmer solo this evening and Deja Nous with lead vocalist Jean-Jacques Psaute on Saturday, both at 7 p.m. Mr. Grimmer brings a mix guitar and vocals. Deja Nous performs the popular and jazz songs in the "Music Hall" tradition of French Cabaret. ON STAGE LIVE

ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap offers Blues Night with the Nobby Reed Project tonight at 7 p.m. Vermont's premiere blues trio includes Eric Belrose, percussion, Ray Bushey, bass, and Mr. Reed on lead guitar and vocals.

SHELDON--The "Fall from Grace" summer spillover BlueGrace season closes with another local favorite, the Missisquoi River Band, on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
This big, traditional and original bluegrass music finale features Cindy and Jim Weed and Pat Murphy with special guest Will Patton and 17 year-old fiddle whiz Roland Clark.

FAIRFIELD CENTER--The Fairfield 250th Community Celebration takes place on the Town Common all day on Saturday. Chester Arthur birthplace tours begin at 11 a.m. with a slice of cake to celebrate President Arthur's 183rd birthday. Organizers do not expect him to attend.
Fairfield artists made and will unveil the Town Message Board
Music will fill the Common starting with John Cassel at 3 p.m. The Fairfield Center School plays at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Missisquoi River Band doing a double, then music and dancing by Fabian & Friends until 10:30.
Kids games and family fun will fill the afternoon with stilts, sack races, Pin the Chop on Chet, plus tug of war, skillet toss, hay bale toss, and more. A Town Photo of all in attendance at 5:30 sharp.
The Community Dinner offers 1763 fare including pig, venison, root veggies, baked beans and johnnycake. Bring a dessert to share of your own version of pies, apple cobblers or crisps, pumpkins, maple and berries.

Congress has celebrated by closing the doors of all federally funded art centers, museums, parks, zoos and delaying the distribution of National Endowment for the Arts grants to our communities.
The National Endowment for the Arts is an independent federal agency that funds and promotes artistic excellence, creativity, and innovation for the benefit of individuals and communities. Their site is a resource for artist communities, arts education, Local Arts Agencies, museums, and research and analysis, as well as dance, design, folk and traditional arts, literature, music, presentation, theater, and the visual arts.
