BURLINGTON--The Vermont Youth Orchestra opens the Fall season at the Flynn on Sunday at 3 p.m. VYO NEWS
The program includes Vivaldi's Concerto for 2 Violins featuring VYO seniors Ruby Dombek and Amanda Milne and begins with Otto Nicolai's delightful Overture to The Merry Wives of Windsor and includes Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 From the New World. Franklin County orchestra members include Myriam Bouti, Swanton; Julia Deziel, Georgia; Ian Erickson, St. Albans; Shelby Meunier, Swanton; and Josiah Witt, Fairfax. Jeffrey Domoto conducts.

Kristin Bamberger has joined the VYO as Concert Chorale Conductor this season. Ms. Bamberger is music teacher and choir director at Shelburne Community School. She holds certification in Kodaly training and degrees from the Bank Street College of Education and New York University.

BURLINGTON--Young Tradition Vermont presents an April Verch Fiddle Workshop at Burlington Violin Shop on Friday at 3 p.m.
Now in the second decade of a career as an internationally touring Canadian fiddler, step dancer, and singer/songwriter, Ms. Verch is in Vermont for a concert with the UVM Lane Series Friday evening. She worked with Young Tradition to make it possible to spend an hour with intermediate to advanced players.

ESSEX JUNCTION--Justice dives into Park Place on Friday at 9:30 p.m.
The band includes Gary Greeno, lead vocals; Scott Belisle on bass and backup vocals; Todd Dunn, lead and rhythm guitar; Mike Fredette, drums; and Scott Guptill, rhythm guitar and backup vocals.
Admission is free.
BURLINGTON--The UVM Folk Music Club hosts a Shape Note Sing in Ira Allen Chapel at UVM every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Mason Gohl holds pitching/leading/sight-reading lessons before the Sing at 6 p.m. Check for occasional changes in time, date and location. Email for more info.
MORRISVILLE--Moog's Place has "live music every night we're open, starting between eight and nine pm" with open mic night scheduled most Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs, the former Chow Bella, presents the Woedoggies in the window tonight at 7:30 p.m. The 3-piece string band of Peter Riley, bass and vocals; Rudy Dauth, lead guitar and vocals; and Wylie Shipman, rhythm guitar and vocals; play classic, simple, honest, acoustic country. Comedy For A Cause takes over the Main Stage on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Twiggs has three stages with live piano, violin, or light guitar any day of the week in the dining room, the Window, or the main stage. The regular Open Mic Night repeats next Wednesday and on the first Wednesday of every month. Their Open Comedy Night for comics 18 and older is held on the third Tuesday of every month. Vern Colburn is Live on the Piano on Friday Nights, Dayve Huckett on the guitar on the first and third Saturday, and additional performances feature Abby Road, Bobby Cee, Mint Julep, Sean Ashby, and Sean Casey.

HIGHGATE--The Highgate Free Public Library is now automated. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
Don't worry. Mrs. Liza has not been replaced by a robot. She and the library volunteers have entered all the books in the collection into an online, searchable database that makes finding books easier and checkout simple. click here to search the catalog. Patrons will need to pick up a new library card in order to borrow material.
Other Franklin County libraries with their catalogs online include AA Brown, Bent Northrup, Enosburg, Haston, and St. Albans.
MIDDLEBURY--The Vermont Folklife Center presents Portraits at the Fair, an exhibit of unique and unexpected images of photographer George Bouret of Pawlet. ART ON THE WALLS
Local artists produced painted backdrops as a standard feature of photography studios from the mid-1800s to about 1920. In 2006, artist Roy Egg created a painted backdrop for Mr. Bouret; that led to the old-time photo studio at Pawlet's Olden Days. Since then Mr. Bouret has shot impromptu portraits in a portable studio at fairs, festivals, and other busy public events.
Portraits at the Fair will be on display at the VFC Vision and Voice gallery through November 23.
SHELBURNE--Shelburne Farms presents the second-annual Champlain Mini Maker Faire in the Coach Barn on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
The participating artists, crafters, engineers, science clubs, tech-enthusiasts, teachers and tinkerers, will show what they have made, share what they have learned, and celebrate the Maker movement. Over 60 Makers are scheduled to participate.
Admission is $12 for adults, $8 for ages 11- 17, and kids 10 and under get in for free. Click here for more info.
Sculptor Judith Wrend of Morrisville creates often-whimsical kinetic pieces that move in the wind or by touch. Brightly painted metal is her medium of choice for sculptures that range from table top to very large, from delicate hanging mobiles to free-standing outdoor works.
