SWANTON--The Friends of Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge have joined with the Village Frame Shoppe of Gallery of Saint Albans for the first Missisquoi Paint Out at the Refuge on Saturday. There will be an Open House at the Refuge from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. with presentations and a lunch at noon. ART ON THE WALLS
"We hope the people who attend this free event will also take the time to hike or boat in the refuge and visit with the artists as they paint," said gallery owner D.J. Pattullo.
Artists will paint on the refuge or at one of the neighboring farms. All monies raised will go to support the Friends of Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, and will provide each artist with a one-year membership in Friends.
Friends of Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge is a grassroots, nonprofit organization consisting of private citizens who provide volunteer and financial support to Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge itself is located in Northwestern Vermont at the delta of the Missisquoi River and the Missisquoi Bay in Lake Champlain. This 6,729 acre park preserves the natural habitats of some of Vermont's most precious wildlife.

BURLINGTON--Young Tradition Vermont presents a New Neighbors Coffeehouse at North End Studios on Friday at 7 p.m. The evening will feature Jeunes musicians du monde, Matt Brouard, Fiddleheads, Merci Irakoze, The Irregulars (Chris, Dana and Eileen), Gabo and Zani Lewis, Benny Nduwayo, Deepika Pokhrel, Jacob Shiller, Susmita Sharma, Louli, Yasi and Oli Zeichner, and others in an open mic style event. Young Tradition is hosting a group of young musicians from Quebec who are also performing Saturday at the Shelburne Farms Harvest Festival.
Admission and pizza (as long as it lasts) are free (donations accepted).
ST. JOHNSBURY--Catamount Center for the Performing Arts and the Nashville Songwriters Association present Carol Ann Jones in Songwriters in the Round in Catamount's Cabaret Room on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Ms. Jones and her guitar and some of her original songs will be "in the round" with other singer/songwriters from NSAI.
The Fall concert will feature some of the best musicians and songwriters in the Northeast Kingdom and northern Vermont. Recording artist and dairy farmer Carol Ann Jones of Georgia brings the songs she wrote for you: life stories sure to pull at your heartstrings.
Admission is free.
Saturday is also the Colors of the Kingdom Festival at Catamount Film & Arts and the grand opening of the Outback Artspace. There will be wearable leaf art, exhibits, Hatchling Music, Poets on the Porch, free ice cream until it's gone, a feature film and shorts, dance and percussion workshops, and more, all starting at 9 a.m. Click here for more info
ST. ALBANS--The Twiggs Comedy for a Cause series will raise funds to help Chrissy Lawton travel to London to march in the New Year's Day parade. Saturday evening at 7 p.m. The charity event series is a night of stand up comedy with several of Vermont's best comedians.
Ms. Lawton is one of about 500 high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the U.S. who will perform in the parade. This is the 26th year these talented cheerleaders have showcased their skills to a very enthusiastic international audience in London.
A junior at BFA-St. Albans, Ms. Lawton is on the varsity cheerleading squad which took their second consecutive Vermont State Coed Championship last year. She has been cheering since she was three years old.
Admission is $15. There are just 70 seats available at the restaurant.

TURNER PRINTMAKING EXHIBITION (September 30)--The juried Pushing Boundaries show at the Janet Turner Print Museum at California State-Chico wants artists taking traditional printmaking to unique and innovative places including combinations of media. 12" OF SIN EXHIBITION (September 30)--The juried exhibition explores sensuality through the lens of contemporary art, with one twist: every piece submitted for consideration must not be larger than one foot square. The show fosters fresh and exciting work by new and established artists. Best in Show receives solo exhibition at Sin City Gallery, Las Vegas, plus airfare and two night hotel accommodations. COOL, A NATIONAL JURIED SHOW (October 1)--South Shore Art Center in Cohasset, MA, invites original work that offers "distinctive, imaginative imagery, across all media and within the theme of Cool."

CHIEF CURATOR for COLLEGE GALLERY (October 1)--The Savannah College of Art and Design exhibitions department chief curator will create modern and contemporary art and design exhibitions in Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia; Hong Kong; and France; as well as at off-site locations. The person in this position will have in-depth knowledge of modern and contemporary art and will organize collections-based and loan exhibitions in these areas while liaising with curators. PHOTO CONTEST AND EXHIBIT (October 19)--The Chaffee Art Center in Rutland hosts its sixth annual amateur contest. The theme this year is "Take the Streets." Photographs may include streets of any neighborhood, city, or town with the residents, the patterns, the architecture. All photos must be 8 x 10".
The exhibit runs October 25 - November 16 in Rutland with a reception and awards ceremony on November 1. Call the Chaffee (802.775.0356) or email for more info.
The Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth College received a $150,000 grant to digitize its entire collection of Native American art and to post it online with a searchable database. The Institute of Museum and Library Services grant will be used to photograph more than 3,500 objects. CLICK HERE: ART SITE OF THE WEEK
The IMLS awarded nearly $30,000,000 in grants to 244 museums across the nation.
