ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery is breaking with tradition in September since the first Sunday falls on Labor Day weekend. The free A.I.R. meet-the-artists reception will be held next Sunday, September 8. ART ON THE WALLS

ESSEX JUNCTION--Advertising itself as the "Ten Best Days of Summer," the Champlain Valley Fair continues through Labor Day. The Fair hosts Vermont's Music Showcase at noon and 2 each day in the Vermont State Building. ON STAGE LIVE
Today is Feed Your Neighbor Day. The Fair has joined with the Vermont Food Bank to bring in canned goods. A can of food before 2 p.m. today only gets free admission and a second can grabs $10 off the cost of a ride bracelet. After 2 p.m. the reward changes to a $3 discount at the gate.
ST. ALBANS--The One Federal Restaurant and Lounge Thursday Night Summer Concert Series is "Closing The Courtyard" this evening with Justice at 7 p.m. The band includes Gary Greeno, lead vocals; Scott Belisle on bass and backup vocals; Todd Dunn, lead and rhythm guitar; Mike Fredette, drums; and Scott Guptill, rhythm guitar and backup vocals.
Admission is free.
BRIDGEWATER, VT--North Branch Bluegrass Festival started with a potluck picking party last night and continues with music, food, and workshops through Sunday afternoon.
The Missisquoi River Band featuring Cindy and Jim Weed and Pat Murphy will play Friday and Sunday at 10 a.m. The band will also host a Beginner’s Bass workshop on Friday at 11:30 a.m. and a guitar workshop on Sunday at 11:30. The festival also includes After The Rodeo, Appalachian Uprising, Crunchy Western Boys, and Carol Hausner & The Green Mountain Ramblers.

BURLINGTON--Young Tradition Vermont's Free Lunchtime Performances at Burlington City Arts Center Plaza draw to a close tomorrow at noon. Click here for more info.
BURLINGTON--The UVM Folk Music Club hosts a Shape Note Sing in Ira Allen Chapel at UVM every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Mason Gohl holds pitching/leading/sight-reading lessons before the Sing at 6 p.m. Check for occasional changes in time, date and location. Email for more info.
MORRISVILLE--Moog's Place has "live music every night we're open, starting between eight and nine pm" with open mic night scheduled most Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--Twiggs, the former Chow Bella, offers Music to Dine By with relaxed music and the arts. They have three stages with live piano, violin, or light guitar any day of the week in the dining room, the Window, or the main stage. Their Open Comedy Night for comics 18 and older is held on the third Tuesday of every month. Live on the Piano, Vern Colburn packs the house on Friday Nights. Dayve Huckett takes the guitar on the first and third Saturday, with additional performances by Abby Road, Bobby Cee, Mint Julep, Sean Ashby, and Sean Casey.

The Summer of Music has been busy! Franklin County has hosted more than 40 festivals, major events, theatricals, and individual concerts in just eight weeks but all good things must close. SUCCESSFUL SUMMER SOUNDS
The 24th season of Summer Sounds brought exceptional performances "from away" with groups rarely heard here in Franklin County but came to an end on Sunday, just in time for the Champlain Valley Fair to start. The series dodged rain drops a couple of times but we didn't have to go inside even once.
Keeghan Nolan, Sky Blue Boys, Mango Jam, and Towne Meeting each wowed the crowd. Dark Horse plus the MVU Jazz Band, an MVU rock ensemble, singer Alanna Freeman, and storyteller Virginia Holiman all helped Highgate celebrate its 250th. The Summer Sounds Surprise was the Rick Davis Band with Dick Prescott in their first appearance in Highgate. The Joe Levesque Big Band wrapped the season with a standing ovation.
The popular series enters its 25th season next year. The All Arts Council will need your help to host Summer Sounds concerts in several Franklin County towns. I am taking suggestions for the performer list right now. You can help us arrange an appropriation in your Town to host concerts in your own local parks. And we need a major sponsor to help underwrite and advertise the series. Email the All Arts Council to volunteer or for more info.
The 2013 Summer Sounds concerts were sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin and Sons, Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always in a Town Park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair for the outdoor family music and festivities.

Rich Sutphen of Essex is one-man music show with Mr. Sutphen on lead vocals and guitar, and other musicians and vocalists (his invisible friends) pre-recorded on backing tracks.
