The Summer of Music keeps us busy all around the County again this week with free concerts, a summer musical, Summer Sounds, and 20 bands at the Jig. THE SUMMER OF MUSIC
The Highgate 250th Anniversary Celebration will offer continuous afternoon and evening entertainment on Saturday, July 27. This look back at our roots goes far beyond the two Grateful Dead shows but not quite to the shallow seas periodically of the Cambrian to Devonian periods. The 1763 Treaty of Paris gave control of our region to the British. The Town was chartered to Samuel Hunt and 63 others August 17, 1763. None of the original grantees ever settled here. HIGHGATE IS WHERE IT'S AT
The day will start at 1 p.m. Saturday with a Historical Sites Tour to highlight a handful of the popular and historical sites within the Town.
LIVE ENTERTAINMENT--The All Arts Council and the Town of St. Highgate will offer live music for the entire Highgate birthday celebration with the MVU Jazz band, singer Alanna Freeman, storyteller Virginia Holiman, Dark Horse, and more, all on Saturday, July 27.
The free BBQ and ice cream starts at 3 p.m. and lasts only until it's gone.
Also starting at 3, there will be a hot air balloon walk through, a petting zoo, activities for children sponsored by the Highgate Public Library, a car show, dunking booth, local vendors, exhibits, and a big raffle. The event will include a car show, dunking booth, the Franklin County Sheriff's Office rollover car, a Highgate Volunteer Fire Department fire, a Zumba party, and an eerie bonfire.
SUMMER SOUNDS--The All Arts Council and the Town of Highgate welcome a band that can rock the entire Arena as Dark Horse in a special Summer Sounds concert there on Saturday evening at the special time of 6 p.m.
Dark Horse is a five-piece country band with two guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards for a mix of six string lead, double lead, rhythm, slide, and acoustic twelve string, keyboards and Hammond organs, grand pianos, and more. All five members sing lead and the band is unique in its complex, five part harmony.
This band has classically trained musicians with Berkeley School of Music graduate, six string legend and coach Bob Berger of Swanton, lead guitar and vocals; Bob Corbiere, bass and vocals; Dan Cox; rhythm guitar and vocals; Ron Hall, drums; George Seymour, steel guitar, fiddle, banjo, and vocals; and sound engineer Chris LaRocque.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin & Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies & Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings (except this week), always at 7 p.m., always in Highgate Municipal Park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair as you settle in to enjoy outdoor family music and festivities.
The rain site is the Highgate Arena.
COLCHESTER--Colchester Parks and Recreation presents Carol Ann Jones and the Superchargers in the Colchester Summer Concert series in Lower Bayside Park this evening at 6:30 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls presents Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun in a 4-day run starting today and continuing through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.
Annie Oakley may be the best shot around but dashing shooting ace Frank Butler has her head over heels in love. Their rivalry is great for show business, bad for romance. Butlers join a rival show which leads to a rousing, finale.
The show stars Robert Willey, Lief Mitchinson, Rachael Sherman, Josh Hull, Molly Hartman, Josh Elkins, Curtis Brown, John Bielicki, Sarah Mitiguy, Esperanza Orduno, Bella Elkins, Sam Caswell, Justin Gates, James Lugo, Kathleen Hoffman, Emily DeBruin, Heather Wilson, Megan Rose, Meg Cossaboom, Kathryn Gates, Soukaina Jamil, and Katherine Sanborn. The musical is directed by Brent Garrow, Tim Stetson and Meg Cossaboom.

ESSEX JUNCTION--Backstage presents Justice with Scott Belisle on bass and backup vocals; Todd Dunn, lead and rhythm guitar; Gary Greeno, lead vocals; Mike Stella, drums; and Scott Guptill, rhythm guitar and backup vocals in a Saturday night bash at 9:30 p.m.

EAST FAIRFIELD--The 21st annual Jig in the Valley brings eight hours of some of the best music in Vermont to the East Fairfield green Sunday from noon on.
John Cassel, Dale and Darcy, Missisquoi River Band, Carol Ann Jones, The Oleo Romeos, Fabian Rainville, Will Patton, Brian Curry, Phil Roleston, George Lewis, Joe Moore, Skeeter Camera, and many others will fill the day with folk, funk, jazz, bluegrass, blues, country and everything in between. There will be hot dogs, burgers, grilled chicken, healthy, locally grown salads, homemade pizza from the Center's wood-fired oven, the famous Pie Table, soda, iced tea and coffee, a big town-wide flea market, kids' activities and a lucky raffle.
Raffle prizes include a new Apple iPAD, an overnight at Trapp Family Lodge, Lake Champlain cruises, a Cuisinart 11-cup food processor, and more. The new "Finest of Fairfield" silent auction features local goods and services.
Admission is $10 per person, with a maximum charge of $25 for families. Tickets are available at Stone's Shell in East Fairfield, As the Crow Flies in St. Albans or at the Bent Northrop Memorial Library in Fairfield. Tickets will also be available at the Green. All proceeds benefit the Food Shelf, Youth and Senior Programs, and general expenses of the Community Center. The event is rain or shine with the Old Meeting House open in case of rain. Please bring a canned food item along for the Food Shelf.
MORRISVILLE--Moog's Place has "live music every night we're open, starting between eight and nine pm" with open mic night scheduled most Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--The Chow Bella Comedy for a Cause series features Tim's House Saturday evening at 7 p.m. The charity event series is a night of stand up comedy with several of Vermont's best comedians.

The regular Chow Open Mic Night repeats on the first Wednesday of every month. Their Open Comedy Night for comics 18 and older is held on the third Tuesday of every month. Vern Colburn is Live on the Piano on Friday Nights, Dayve Huckett on the guitar on the first and third Saturday, and the Best Little Border Band plays some of the best jazz in Vermont on the second and fourth Saturdays, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Carolyn Enz Hack of Thetford Center says that some of her work references mythological sources but that she reaches to illustrate abstract ideas rather than storylines. The site includes a Gallery, artist Statement, resume, Paintings, Sculptures and Furniture. Her show, Rejuvenation, is at the Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery through August 13.
