The Friends of the Opera House Summer Musical Theater Camp is right around the corner. This two week summer theatre camp, led by directors Liz Leroux, Emily Frapp, and Suzanne MacKay, will cover all aspects of a musical theatre production: costumes, sets, publicity, and show. Actors and budding actors ages 6-14 will find individual and group instruction, workshops, and fun. CALL FOR THESPIANS
Camp will be held Monday - Friday, June 17-28, at the Opera House and will culminate in a show on June 28.
The cost is $100 per child but additional children in the family can participate for $65. The directors encourage early applications; limited scholarships are available. Call 802.933.6171 or email for the entry form.

This series for area artists and photographers discusses using Print on Demand sites to host artists' galleries and to fulfill orders. We have visited some artists' websites, looked at POD itself, as well as considering how and why an artist or photographer might use it. PRINT ON DEMAND
As the industry grows, we'll see more announcements like this: "liveBooks acquires Fotomoto to offer photographers integrated e-commerce functionality from their own sites."
Fotomoto specializes in being the middleman between the photographer and the customer. The set up looks pretty simple if you have an existing website with your printable images. You sign up to their free service and insert one line of code to your website. This code will find any images (larger than a thumbnail) on your site and will then place that image into a directory in the fotomoto account. The images will automatically display the Fotomoto "buy now," "download now," and "send eCard" buttons. Fotomoto does not support Flash slideshows.
The artist can sign into the fotomoto account to change pricing in bulk or individually, change the style of buttons, the eCard options, Social Network options, and more. Their Print the Way You Want system control the method of fulfillment; pick one of the partner print shops in their network or print and deliver it yourself.
The problems include limited paper choices, quality, pricing, signature, and finding information.
Some customers -- mostly those who have had similar darkroom or high-end inkjet prints from local photographers -- complain about print quality. Fotomoto has no way for the artist to sign a print (I embed a signature on the face of the image file but many do not like to do that). The price is high. Not out of sight but higher than other, similar operations.
Fotomoto charges transaction fees plus PayPal/Stripe fees on all accounts. The free subscription costs nothing to join but a 22% transaction fee plus the charge fees. A Pro subscription is $120/year plus 12% plus the charge fees and the Pro Plus is $300/year plus 10% plus the charge fees.
In the coming weeks, I'll review other POD sites and talk with other artists about their choices. Email the All Arts Council if you use any of these services to produce the prints you sell. Links to each of the reviewed sites are online at .

ST. ALBANS--Tonight is Classic Movie Night at the St. Albans Free Library at 6 p.m. as the library screens 1957's 12 Angry Men. Henry Fonda, Lee. J. Cobb, Jack Klugman, and E.G. Marshall are among the twelve men on a jury that must decide the fate of a young murder defendant whose guilt would appear to be certain.
Saturday is Movie Matinee Day at 12:30 p.m. (Note the change in time). This will be a fascinating ride across the ocean with a boy named Pi. The Life of Pi is the fantasy adventure of a Tamil boy who survives 227 days after a shipwreck on a boat in the Pacific Ocean with a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.
The library shows a newsreel, cartoon, and trailer of coming attractions before each weekly movie. All films are shown on the 4' by 6' screen in the upstairs conference room "cinema." Admission is free, along with popcorn and a beverage.
The Tuesday Night Book Group meets May 14 at 7 p.m. to take up Of Bees and Mist by Erick Setiawan. The tale takes place in a nameless town during a timeless era in a sepulchral house where ghosts dwell in mirrors.
The 8th annual Lucerne Art of Dairy art contest has as its theme, "ImaginDairy Places." Nine finalists (one per region) were chosen to design a life-size cow sculpture. CLICK HERE: ART SITE OF THE WEEK
More than 6,000 students submitted designs to the contest; nine were chosen as finalists. These nine finalists were each given a life-size cow statue to paint their "ImaginDairy Place" and $275 to purchase art supplies. The artist with the highest number of votes will win a grand prize of $20,000 for his/her high school's art department.
Arizona's Northwest Christian School sophomore Kayla Anderson represents Arizona and New Mexico in the competition. I saw Ms. Anderson's entry at the monOrchid Gallery where she had handouts, an info panel, and scannable QR codes to vote and to "like" on Facebook. She and the cow will tour until the deadline to gather votes.
It's a contest I hope to see a Vermont finalist in next year.
Online voting for the cow art started at noon on April 17 and continues through May 17. There is apparently no limit to the number of times you can vote; every 100,000th voter gets a $100 Lucerne gift card (free moolah).
