On Tuesday, March 5, we all come together to legislate what will happen in our Towns and our schools for another year (you are going to Town Meeting, right?). Most Franklin County communities will have some issue relating to the arts in their Town or school budgets. TOWN MEETING
While you are there, don't forget to fill out the Doyle poll.
Sen. Bill Doyle has represented Washington County in the Vermont Senate since 1969. He currently serves as the Senate Minority Leader. And since 1969 he has conducted an annual poll at Town meetings across Vermont. This year the questions again cover Vermont Yankee's license and using cell phones in vehicles to increasing taxes on sugar and gasoline. He has no "artsy" questions but your answers are important nonetheless.
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, guest artist Susan Bull Riley will display, present, and discuss her work during a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments on Sunday from 1 - 4 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of March. Ms. Riley says all her formal training is in music. She is a concert flutist, a singer, and a very enthusiastic, but inexpert pianist. She loves to study how things look, particularly the birds and flowers and landscapes and people around her. She has been selected four times to participate in "Focus on Nature," the New York State Museum's biennial exhibit that features natural history illustrators from around the world. She will bring current work-in-progress -- botanical drawings and watercolor -- to the reception.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery, located at 321 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. plus the first Sunday of each month, noon to 5 p.m.
TICONDEROGA, NY--The Ticonderoga Festival Guild presents Summer Sounds favorites Towne Meeting in a free concert at the Best Western on Sunday at 3 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
The concert, part of Ticonderoga's MArts Madness, will feature songs from the 50s to the present from folk to classic soft rock and some country and even some sing along. The Cultural Arts Initiative of the Ticonderoga Area has two weeks of cultural events and activities (MArts Madness) planned from March 2 to March 17.

CONCORD, N.H.--The 11th annual March Mandolin Festival features Bakersfield's mando magician Will Patton on staff for workshops and concerts all weekend at the festival hosted by David Surrette.
The two-day event offers group lessons and workshops, jam sessions, and evening concerts. There will also be a special Sunday night party at the Barley Pub in Dover, a String Jazz Extravaganza.
The schedule begins with a concert featuring Matt Flinner, Robin Bullock, Will Patton, and David Surette, with special guest Susie Burke at Stone Church Music Club on Friday. This is a separate ticket from Saturday and Sunday events at the Concord Community Music School. The Saturday concert brings the same performers together at the Concord Community Music School at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday offers the String Jazz Extravaganza with the music of Django, Monk, blues, old swing numbers, hillbilly jazz and other eclecticana and exotica, with lots of improv at the Barley Pub at 8 p.m.

MORRISVILLE--Moog's Place has "live music every night we're open, starting between eight and nine pm" with open mic night scheduled most Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m.

ST. ALBANS--Chow Bella offers Music to Dine By with relaxed music and the arts. They may have live piano, violin, or light guitar any day of the week. The Chow! Cabaret offers live performances by musicians, visual artists, poets, and more. The regular Chow Open Mic Night repeats next Wednesday and on the first Wednesday of every month.
"Chow will have Open Mic Specials for everyone enjoying the music in the back" on Open Mic Wednesdays, organizer Jack Grimmer said.
The Open Comedy Night for comics 18 and older is held on the third Tuesday of every month. Vern Colburn is Live on the Piano on Friday Nights, Dayve Huckett on the guitar on the first and third Saturday, and the Best Little Border Band plays some of the best jazz in Vermont on the second and fourth Saturdays, starting at 5:30 p.m.

Artist and photographer Natalie LaRocque and I have been talking about using Print on Demand sites to host local artists' galleries and to fulfill orders. She has chosen Artistwebsites/Fine Art America to sell both originals and prints of her work through the sites they create for member artists. Fine Art America has an email mailing service, a shopping cart for your own website, a showcase to highlight the work of local artists, plus an online calendar, and a variety of community aspects. Ms. LaRocque's site also has links to all her artwork, her five online galleries, as well as access to the calendar, blog, press info, a contact page, and a link to subscribe to her email list.
