ART ON THE WALLS

ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery has masks on the wall this month. The Wednesday morning Free Drawing Plus group at the Franklin County Senior Center created the masks in a class dedicated to crafts, painting, collages and paper projects including card making.
All but two of the masks on display started with a plastic face form and which the artists covered with papier mache. Two other masks were made by applying papier mache to a blown up balloon. They popped the balloon when the mask dried and hardened. Call Donna DeGrechie (802.524.6616) for more info about the group.
The show continues through the end of February.

CLICK HERE: STAR PARTY ART SITE OF THE WEEK

SPANISH HARBOR KEY, FL--The Southern Cross Astronomical Society hosts the 29th Annual Winter Star Party this week at the Girl Scout camp on "Scout Key" in the middle of the Florida Keys. Some 600 astronomers from around the world have gather to view southern constellations, comets, and stars in the clear night skies. This is usually the only place in the continental U.S. where they can be viewed. The event has lectures, programs, workshops, buying, selling, trading, and lots of photography.
Wondering why this is in the arts column? Most astronomers photograph what they see and many of those images blend both art and science as this Flickr group shows: snipurl.com/26bb0fj.
