      ArtBits always features a calendar of the goings on of Franklin County artists. Check out these events around Franklin County. Each issue includes the entire text of our weekly newspaper column.


      Stop in for live music and more at the Fairfax Music Sessions at the Foothills Bakery in Fairfax most Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m., at various restaurants around Franklin County throughout the week, at the Bayside in St Albans Town most Sunday afternoons, and the Cambridge CoffeeHouses at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month.
     These gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. The booked performances and acoustic Open Mike Nights feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

OPERA (HOUSE) EXTRAVAGANZAS

CRAFTS (AND ART)! --For the fifth year in a row, early holiday shoppers and craft lovers can shop very local as the Opera House at Enosburg Falls hosts its annual craft fair. This year’s fair is set for Saturday, Nov. 10 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
      This home-grown event has grown each year, with local and regional vendors filling the main floor of the opera house, as well as the stage. From fabric arts to jewelry, photography to painting, mixed media to woodworking, the day offers something for every taste and interest.
      Admission to the craft fair is free. Refreshments will be available.

FOOD (and MYSTERIOUS FUR)!--Plan ahead. Woodmen of the World presents Gone to the Dog performed by Co-Op Theater East as a mystery dinner at the Opera House at Enosburg Falls next Friday, November 16, at 5:30 p.m. Catered by Chow Bella the Victorian era mystery is very special fund raising event that benefits both the Opera House and Franklin County Humane Society.

ART ON THE WALLS

ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts Beth Maginn this month. Ms. Maginn is working in and exhibiting collage, pastels, and watercolors.
      The show continues through the end of November.


ON STAGE LIVE

ST. ALBANS BAY--The Bayside Pavilion presents Carol Ann Jones playing solo tomorrow at 7 p.m.
      "Come join me in the bar," she said. "We'll have a sing along!"


ENOSBURG FALLS--Dorothy Meets Alice is a one-act play by Joseph Robinette presented in the Enosburg Falls High School Auditorium starting tonight and continuing tomorrow and Saturday at 7 p.m.
      Admission is $5 for adults $3 Students


MORRISVILLE–Viva Las Artes is River Arts celebration fiesta in the River Arts Center on Saturday at 6 p.m. The evening honors Joanne Harrison with a dinner and music and silent auction. Admission is $65 per person.
      River Arts also holds a Farmers and Artisans Market at the River Arts Center every Wednesday from 3 - 7 p.m. Even in the cold. Click here for more info.


LINCOLN--The second annual Burnhall Hall Music Series presents the Starline Rhythm Boys in Burnham Hall on Saturday at 7 p.m.
      Admission is $8 for adults; $6 for seniors and teens, and $3 for children. Tickets are available at 802.388.6863 or at the door.


ST. ALBANS--Chow Bella offers Music to Dine By with relaxed music and the arts. They may have live piano, violin, or light guitar any day of the week. The Chow! Cabaret offers live performances by musicians, visual artists, poets, and more. The regular Chow Open Mic Night repeats next Wednesday and on the first Wednesday of every month. Their Open Comedy Night for comics 18 and older is held on the third Tuesday of every month. Vern Colburn is Live on the Piano on Friday Nights, Dayve Huckett on the guitar on the first and third Saturday, and the Best Little Border Band plays some of the best jazz in Vermont this weekend and on every second and fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 5:30 p.m.

MORRISVILLE--River Arts and Young Tradition Vermont also present Cedric Watson and Bijou Creole "bring'n on the heat of the summer" on Sunday at 4 p.m. in a benefit performance for the Tom Sustic Fund. There will be light fare from Susanna's Catering starting at 3 p.m.

YOUNG MUSIC

COLCHESTER and BURLINGTON--Saturday is a big, busy, musical day at the Vermont Youth Orchestra, starting with a Parent Organization Meeting in the Elley Long Music Center on Saturday at 10 a.m.
      The VYO will host a Presto Concert in the Elley Long on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. There will be a Burlington Ensemble 90/10 series concert Giving Bach in the College St. Congregational Church on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and a VT Youth Winds Concert in the Elley Long on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
      The program offers Bach's Goldberg Variations featuring pianist David Kaplan. VYO cellist Lyle Yoder will join Burlington Ensemble Artistic Directors Michael Dabroski and Sofia Hirsch to perform Music-COMP student compositions. ("Music-COMP" is the Vermont MIDI Project, a statewide program that supports students in music composition.)
      The Burlington Ensemble makes "Music with a Social Mission" and is partnering with the VYO as one of six nonprofits in its 90/10 Series this season.

BURLINGTON--The Fiddlehead guest instructor is Katrina VanTyne, an Irish style fiddler well versed in the tunes played at Irish sessions in the area. The Burlington Violin Shop hosts the session from 10 - 11 a.m.
      "We like to make sure tunes taught at the montly sessions are tunes you'd have a good chance of encountering at local sessions, so having Katrina this month is perfect," Mark Sustic said.
      There is no cost but they have room for only about 15 participants email Mr. Sustic to RSVP.


CREATIVE ECONOMY

     The Vermont Cultural Data Project holds a new round of orientations next week, starting November 13. Organizations can participate in New User or Reports Orientations when getting started with the CDP to save time and get the most out of the CDP's tools.
      The nearest sessions take place next Wednesday, November 14, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Burlington City Arts. There are also sessions in St. Johnsbury and Montpelier plus an orientation webinar online.

It has new categories including Young Artist Spotlight, Partners and Sponsors, the Tom Sustic Fund, as well as Recommended Recordings and Publications.
