The Fairfax Community Theater Company presents The Diary of Anne Frank in the Westford Brick Meeting House for a four-day run starting this evening at 7:30 p.m. DIARY OF ANNE FRANK
The play opens in November 1945 with Otto Frank's return to the attic rooms where he, his family, the Van Daans, and Mr. Dussell lived in hiding during the Nazi occupation of Holland. Carol Graves portrays annex protector Miep Gies; Tyler Ogden is Peter Van Daan, Jeff Ogden, Mr. Hermann Van Daan, Ron Caldwell, Albert Dussel; Mike DeSanto, Mr. Otto Frank; Kristin Holcomb, Mrs. Edith Frank; Amanda Graves, Margot Frank; Emma Preiss, Anne Frank; Lisa Steele, Mrs. Petronella Van Daan, and Sue Bacon is Kraler. The cast is spread out from Burlington, Colchester, Essex Jct, Fairfax, Milton, and Shelburne.
After Anne's statement that, "in spite of everything, people really are good at heart," there won't be a dry eye in the house at curtain call.
Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett adapted their work from Anne Frank's famous diary. The longtime Hollywood scriptwriters had received Oscar nominations for The Thin Man, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and others, and also penned Easter Parade, the musical, and It's a Wonderful Life. They won a Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics Circle award for The Diary of Anne Frank.
The Diary required scrupulous research as well as interviews and visits to her attic hideout. "We all felt we were working for a cause, not just a play." Mr. Hackett said in 1956. The play made its theater debut that year.
FCTC offers evening performances tonight through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 2:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students with group rates available. Call Jerry Starks (802.881.4455) or email for tickets and more information.
ST. ALBANS--The 5th annual Taylor Park Fine Wine, Beer and Food Festival takes place on Saturday, 1-4 p.m. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Franklin County Food Shelf. ART ON THE WALLS
The fine art exhibit and sale will feature the works of Harald Aksdal, Ann Allen, Lisamarie Charlesworth, Chasworth Pottery & Farm, Linda Clark, Lorraine Cota Manley, Karen Day-Vath, Mary Ann Duffy Godin, Clair Dunn, Paule Gingras, Melvin Harris, David Juaire, Tinka Theresa Martell, Scheffler Stained Glass, Longina Smolinski, Matt White, and Jon Young.
Fine, flavorsome foods from As the Crow Flies, Back Inn Time B&B, Chow!Bella, Cosmic Bakery & Café, Eastern Dragon, Evelyn's Desserts, Jeff's Restaurant, Mi Casita, Mimmo's, One Federal Restaurant, Sweet Nothings, West Maple Syrup, The Wine Shop, and others alongside more than 40 wines and beers will delight, amuse, and captivate your palate. There is a silent auction.

MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Recreation Center presents Arts for the Parks in the Town Hall on Saturday. The evening will open with a 5 p.m. preview. Dinner begins at 6 p.m. The annual Dinner and Art Auction benefits the Rec Center.
Admission is $18 BYOB.
ST. ALBANS--The Vermont Youth Orchestra Fall Concert returns to Franklin County with a performance at the BFA-St. Albans Performing Arts Center tomorrow evening at 8:00 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
Late-Romantic Austrian composer Gustav Mahler died 100 years ago in May. His music bridged the heavy Germanic tradition of the 19th Century and the modernism of the early 20th. The VYO opens the new season with Mahler's monumental tone poem Totenfeier ("Funeral rites") to celebrate his centenary plus the contemporaneous works of Jean Sibelius, Karelia Overture, and Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Russian Easter Overture. Violinist Justin Truell of Woodstock solos in the first movement of Edouard Lalo's Symphonie Espagnol. Music Director Designate Jeffrey Domoto conducts.
The Vermont Youth Orchestra is a full symphony orchestra seating about 95 musicians, many of whom hail from Franklin County.

SHELDON--Summer Music at Grace continues on the first day of Autumn with Chasing 440 tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m.
The front porch string band plays bluegrass and "old tyme rhythms" fronted by David Benway, vocals and lead guitar; Arnold Royea, fiddle and mandolin; Bill Masse, dobro and other instruments, Mike Ryan, vocals, banjo, Blueridge flattop, and mandolin.

ST. ALBANS--Keeghan Nolan presents The Young Guns Flood Relief Tour in St. Luke's Episcopal Church tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.
The Young Guns are a group of talented performers under the age of 21 including Alanna Freeman, Mingo Maquera, Victoria Lynne England, Troy Millette, and local teen rockers BAM. The Jericho Road Crew band will perform as a special guest and the Keeghan Nolan Band will close the show.
Admission is $10 per person, $15 per couple, or $20 per family (up to 6 members).
ST. ALBANS--The Downtown St. Albans 2011 Summer Concert Series presents the Nobby Reed Project live in Taylor Park tomorrow evening at 6 p.m.
The series is sponsored by Saint Albans Society for the Performing Arts and Saint Albans for the Future. Admission is free. The rain site is St. Albans City Hall.
BURLINGTON--Light the Night presents Carol Ann Jones "with an acoustic trio that will knock your socks off" at The Annex at Memorial Auditorium, tomorrow evening 6 - 7 p.m. and again at 8 - 9 p.m.
