But the music will not. Summer Sounds opens its 21st season on Sunday as Drummac Septic Service presents Jon Gailmor in Highgate Municipal Park on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. THE DIRT WILL BE DRY
Vermont's favorite singer, songwriter, teacher, performer, and optimist, Mr. Gailmor gives an eclectic, emotional, exhilarating, optimistic, and provocative (think current events and even scathing political satire) concert from an entertainer equally at home fronting the flagpole in Highgate's municipal park or fronting the Vermont Symphony in the Flynn. Listen for original music, children's songs, ballads, witty ditties, and more.
"I love singing in Highgate," he told me.
This concert will feature almost all original songs with a lot of audience participation because he makes the audience feel welcome. "I can't express how much it means to me to have people hear [and enjoy] the music."
Mr. Gailmor has written and performed since 1971 in a tennis stadium in Lima, Peru, in theaters in Russia, coffeehouses in the New York, and in Summer Sounds with us. His concerts involve the family and his performances are renowned for audiences singing and clapping together, guffawing, and weeping. His three oldest albums, Passing Through, Dirt, and Gonna Die With A Smile If It Kills Me, are available on CD at .
There may not be Clover but you can bet there will be Dirt.
Just before the concert, stop by for the Highgate Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary-Summer Sounds Social in the Park starting at 6 p.m. The social hour is a chance to visit with friends and eat some delicious desserts.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin and Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always in Highgate Municipal Park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair as you settle in to enjoy outdoor family music and festivities. The rain site is the Highgate United Methodist Church.

The Swanton Free Public Library wants to stage a new, rotating exhibit of (mostly) two-dimensional art. The tabletop show will continue into the future with works changing about every six weeks. Email the All Arts Council for more info and to volunteer. CALL FOR ARTISTS
SHELBURNE--Furchgott Sourdiffe Gallery presents Fairfax artist Gail Salzman in 20/20, 20 artists representing 20 years of artistic vision, with an opening reception tomorrow evening at 5:30-7:30 p.m. ART ON THE WALLS
Ms. Salzman will show Veil, her new oil on panel, and another new painting, alongside the work of 19 fellow artists.

ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on painter and multi-media artist Pamela Krout-Voss, painter Patrick Murphy, watercolorist Gillian Senior, 3 dimensional artist Kim Senior, and photographer JoAnne Wazny.
The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments tonight from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of July.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The Village Frame Shoppe is located within the coop as a resident framer. The Blue Crayon, a small private studio, is available there for individual or small group lessons. The gallery, located at 349 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts Lorraine Manley this month. She works the lush, vibrant colors of the Vermont landscape in acrylics and oils.
Ms. Manley's exhibit of giclee prints continues through the end of July.
SWANTON--The Vermont National Guard also presents Vermont's Own 40th Army Band in a free concert on the Green in Swanton this evening at 7 p.m. This concert will feature the Liberty Bells, a woodwind quintet, the Green Mountain Show Band, a big band style ensemble, and the Power of 10, a power rock show band. The weather could not be better. Mostly sunny with the high temperature in the upper 70s today and clear with light and variable winds for the concert. Bring your blanket or lawn chairs.
The 40th Army Shootin' Tootin' Band will next travel to Ft McPherson, Georgia, to back-fill for the Army Ground Forces Band.
Admission to the Swanton concert is free.
The concert will be repeated in Bombardier Park in Milton tomorrow evening at 7 p.m.
SHELDON--Summer Music at Grace presents the Michele Fay Band in their return to Grace on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Playing a music mix built on traditional, swing, and bluegrass, the band of Ms. Fay, acoustic guitar and banjo; Lausanne Allen, fiddle, whistle, and vocal harmonies; Tim Price, mandolin, acoustic guitar and electric guitar; and Mike Santosusso, upright bass; offer rich female harmonies.
Ms. Fay was a finalist in the 2010 Solar Fest Singer/Songwriter showcase and won the Folk Cellar/Nick Fest songwriter's contest.

WESTFORD--The Westford Farmer's Market presents Carol Ann Jones in a solo performance on the Town Green, tomorrow from 4 - 6 p.m.
FAIRFAX--Young Tradition Vermont presents a Showcase featuring The Irregulars in a gateway to the world of traditional music and dance at Bellows Free Adademy on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
Young musicians, ages 13-16, the Irregulars play traditional tunes from Ireland, Cape Breton, Appalachia, Quebec, New England, and Scotland. The group won 1st place at the 2011 Young Tradition Weekend. Members include Oliver Scanlon on mandolin, Oliver, Eileen O’Grady and Christopher Krag on the traditional fiddle; McKinley James on cello fiddle and Irish dance; Laura Harris on piano accordion; Amanda DeBellis on flute; and Dana Hartshorn on piano.

MILTON--The Milton Summer Concert Series presents the Carol Ann Jones Trio in the Community Bandshell off Bombardier Road near the baseball fields on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. Will Patton and Gary Spaulding join Ms. Jones in a free evening of original and lively music.
