Rotary Club of St. Albans opens the doors to its annual fund raiser, the Home & Recreation Exposition, tomorrow through Sunday at the Collins-Perley Sports and Fitness Center. Under the guidance of Expo chairman Warren Hamm and general manager Rene Meilleur, 100% of the profits from go to support the local charitable work. ART ON THE EXPO WALLS
The Champlain Collection has had a major exhibit at the Home Show for several years. Photographer Chris Hungerford and other artists will have exhibits as well.
2011 marks the seventh year the Champlain Collection has published a new Fred Swan poster at the Home Expo. This year they will also have a new canvas giclee called Red Sky at Night.
"It's a bit different for Fred," gallery owner Norm Choiniere said. "I think people will like it."
Champlain Collection changed its business model last year, giving up their retail store after 35 years in favor of an online presence only. They remain the exclusive publisher and licensing agent for New England Artists Fred Swan, Sean Dye, and 7 year old Elyza Bruce. The Home Expo gallery will also include works by other Collection artists and artcards and posters by Ms. Bruce.
"I'm looking forward to the weekend to see some of our old friends and customers," Mr. Choiniere said.
Vermont Life photographer Chris Hungerford of Franklin brings fine art prints and art cards to the show.
"I find great joy and relaxation in nature, and hope to pass this on to others through my photography," he wrote. His prints are produced on Kodak Professional Endura Lustre photo paper.
Significantly more home improvement will happen again this year than new home construction; that home improvement can easily help showcase your own collection of art.
Rotary supports local organizations. The Learn to Ski Program takes youngsters to Smugglers Notch. The offer annual support to programs like Martha's Kitchen and Special Olympics. They particularly like to help the start-up or expansion of local programs or facilities such as the Hard'ack snow making equipment and expansion at the St. Albans Historical Museum, Club Respite, and the Library, as well as new playground equipment in area parks. All thanks to funds raised at the Home Expo.
Admission is still just $5 and all children under 16 are admitted free. The doors open at 2 p.m. on Friday, 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday. The Collins-Perley Sports and Fitness Center is located just off I-89 at Exit 19.
ENOSBURG FALLS--The After School Drama Program presents My Zombie Romeo by Em Frappier in the Enosburg High School Auditorium this evening and tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
Playwright Emily Frappier of East Berkshire is Artistic Director of Mountain Road Productions and also directs plays for area middle and high schools. She recently directed A Christmas Carol as well as an after school production of The Wizard of Oz at the Opera House.
Admission is $5 for adults or $3 for students.
SWEETEN YOUR PALETTE - A SAPPY ART SHOW (April 9)--Dan Pattullo's expanded Village Frame Shoppe & Gallery in St. Albans hosts the first maple themed art show beginning April 11 to coincide with the 45th Vermont Maple Festival. This open call is for no more than one original piece with a Vermont maple theme. All styles of artwork and all media will be accepted. Mr. Pattullo recommends that all artwork be for sale. ART at the COACH BARN (April 11)--Shelburne Farms' 24th annual exhibition and sale is held on the 1,400-acre farm, education center, and National Historic Landmark. The annual show displays the work of 40-45 artists. All mediums are encouraged but artwork must have been created within the last two years and cannot have been shown in the Burlington area. Selected artists may submit up to five pieces to the show; Shelburne Farms will exhibit a minimum of two pieces from each selected artist. Entry fee. VERMONT POET LAUREATE (March 25)--The state wants nominations for the appointment of a new Poet Laureate for Vermont. The Poet Laureate serves as the state ambassador for the art of poetry and will participate in official ceremonies and readings within Vermont and nationally. The honorary position is appointed by the Governor every four years. The poet selected will receive a $1000 honorarium. Nominations must be submitted online.
Ruth Stone is the current Poet Laureate; past laureates include Galway Kinnell and Robert Frost.
