The Big Four Music Weeks of summer continue this week. With three or more live concerts, fairs, or festivals each week, there is plenty to see and hear in Franklin County.
Bluegrass comes to Highgate Municipal Park this weekend as Drummac Septic Service presents Possum Haw in the free Summer Sounds concert on Sunday evening at 7 p.m. DEFINITELY NOT SLEEPING
Did I mention that this is a FREE bluegrass concert?
Formed in Burlington in 2004, the PossumHaw quintet is an original, authentic bluegrass and folk group with award-winning songwriting and singing complemented by traditional instrumentation. They tell riveting stories surrounded by harmonizing and old-time musical arrangements. The brother band includes Colby Crehan, lead vocals, guitar, piano; Ryan Crehan, banjo, vocals, harmonica; Charley Eiseman, lead guitar, vocals; Pat Melvin, upright bass, vocals; and Steve Waud: mandolin, vocals. They have three albums Madtom," "Split-rail, and the new Fortune's Name. They have appeared at the Champlain Valley Folk Festival, First Night Burlington, Higher Ground, the Long Trail Festival, and more.
Just before the concert, stop by for Highgate Volunteer Fire Auxiliary-Summer Sounds Social in the Park starting at 6:30 p.m. The social hour is a chance to visit with friends and eat plenty of delicious desserts.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, O. C. McCuin and Sons, Ray's Extrusion Dies and Tubing, and Scotty's Taxi.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings, always at 7 p.m., always in Highgate Municipal Park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair as you settle in to enjoy outdoor family music and festivities. The rain site is the Highgate United Methodist Church.
STOWE--The Townsend Gallery at Black Cap Coffee hosts fine art photographer Peter Arthur Weyrauch's Rodz series of vintage hot rod and antique car photographs in a solo show for the month of August. The exhibit coincides with the 53rd Annual Stowe Antique and Classic Car Show. ART ON THE WALLS
ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on painter Beth McAdams, photographer Daniel Pattullo, quilter Kathleen Patrick, and Frank Tiralla, pen and ink. The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments tonight from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The exhibit continues through the end of August.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The Village Frame Shoppe is located within the coop as a resident framer. The Blue Crayon, a small private studio, is available there for individual or small group lessons. The gallery, located at 349 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.

ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts painter Katherine Hartson this month. Ms. started to paint about five years ago and is largely self-taught. Her exhibit includes mostly landscapes on canvas with two scenes on sap buckets her grandmother gave her. She works mostly in acrylics. Prior to picking up the paint brush she mainly drew sketches.
The show continues through the end of August.
ST. ALBANS--Back by popular demand, Chowbella hosts The Young Guns Showcase in the ongoing It's All About the Song Festival tonight at 8 p.m. This event offers music by younger artists, age 21 and under. Franklin County's favorite country singer, Keeghan Nolan of Fairfax, hosts. ON STAGE LIVE
Admission is $5. Tickets and reservations are available at 802.865.3013. It's All About the Song is presented by WOKO, and sponsored by Coca Cola, Advance Music, All Seasons Excavating, Duncan's Auto, EuroTech, and Chowbella.
JOHNSON--Tuesday Night Live! concert series presents The Relics on the Legion Field on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

STOWE--The Helen Day Arts Center hosts a Community Art Jam and BBQ on Saturday at 6 p.m. There will be music by Joshua Panda, art, food, beer and wine all to celebrate Summer and art. Admission is $20 for Adults and $10 for Youth. Children are free.
Then on Tuesday, the Friends of the Stowe Free Library present the Gordon Stone Band at the Helen Day at 6:30 p.m.
