REALLY OLD and NEW MUSIC

Summer Music at Grace presents Aurora Ancient Music, a homegrown Vermont ensemble with international connections in the early music world, in Grace Church tomorrow evening at 7:30 p.m. Aurora will perform sings The Wild and The Sacred, a concert of medieval and new songs and dance music for the earth.
Aurora specializes in medieval vocal music, from 8th century chant to 15th century English Carols, all from a time musical innovations were appearing in courts, monasteries and abbeys around the Western world. This concert will include chants of the medieval mystic Hildegard von Bingen; the complex harmonies of the English late medieval composer John Dunstable; processional songs from 13th century France; and new works by Vermont's Don Jamison and Aurora's Liz Thompson. Aurora Ancient Music is Ms. Thompson, Susan Comen, and Social Band Director Amity Baker.
Grace Church is located at 215 Pleasant Street, Sheldon. The suggested donation of $15 benefits the performers. Email for more info about the performers. Call Liz Thompson (802.453.4353) or information about Aurora Ancient Music. Click here or call 802.326.4603 for info about the music at Grace Church.

ON STAGE LIVE

QUECHEE--The 2010 Quechee Balloon Festival presents Yankee Chank tomorrow at 3 p.m. The Press Gang performs in a Young Tradition showcase on Saturday at noon and 2:45 p.m. Hey Mama and One Morning Fair will also perform Saturday; Banjo Dan and the Mid Nite Plowboys take the stage on Sunday at 4 p.m.
The Vermonters of Yankee Chank -- Bob Naess, fiddle and vocals, Cannon Labrie, accordion and vocals, Jim Burns, guitar, and Mark Sustic, bass and percussion -- immerse the audience in Cajun music with the traditional Cajun two-steps and waltzes as it continues to be played in the rural dance halls and honky tonks of Louisiana. There is always some spicey Zydeco.
The annual Quechee Hot Air Balloon, Craft & Music Festival fills the skies over the Upper Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire with hot air balloons and the grounds with continuous arts and music. It is one of the longest running hot air balloon festivals in New England
Admission tickets good for the entire weekend cost $10 for adults and $5 for children 6-12. Children 5 and under are free.
