CALL FOR MUSICIANS--Drunk driving is the number one killer of young music fans in Vermont. Several local groups have joined together to use free digital downloads to raise drunk driving awareness. SPECIAL CALLS
Our first Stop Drunk Driving Music Campaign invites talented young musicians from Franklin and Grand Isle Counties to donate their own music to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence. A total of 30 artists will appear on a digitally distributed CD. The music will be available for free downloading by anyone. The site will also host prevention messages--designed by high school and college students--about the costs of drunk driving.
This project is sponsored by the All Arts Council, Franklin County Caring Communities, and Common Ground with assistance from other area businesses and community groups.
The Stop Drunk Driving Music Campaign has two upcoming milestones: we need a name and we need music.
The name contest has two rules: any name should encompass the idea of thisagegroup doing something for thisagegroup and it must sound entertaining with style. It also should not sound like grant writers invented it. Submissions so far include "2 Cool 4 School," "18 Under Sound Brigade," "Bay to Jay," "For the Future of Franklin," "genz2zgen," "MinorInKey," "New Noise," "SkoolToonzRoolz," "Sound Out," "TeenTunes," "United Youth," "yoot2yoot," and "Youth Sound Board." Send your suggestions for a name by Email.
Musicians must be 18 years old or younger, have at least one recorded original song, include their age, hometown, and parent's contact information. All Arts Music Promotions will produce the album. Submit MP3 or WAV files of no more than two original songs by email. The deadline is March 30. There is no entry fee.
CALL FOR THESPIANS--Fairfax Community Theater Company auditions for a Radio Theater Dramatization of "The Maltese Falcon" will begin Wednesday and continue next Thursday and Friday. FCTC needs 11 actors: six men and three women plus two roles in which gender is indifferent. It will be a cold reading.
The Maltese Falcon is a radio drama so FCTC will emphasize vocal flexibility and fundamental reading skills. Age and appearance are very much secondary. The director wants sonorous radio voices and seamless delivery. Rehearsals will start in late March or early April.
The March 10 auditions will be held at Lake Champlain Access Television Studios on Prim Road in Colchester. Auditions on March 11 and 12 will be held at B.F.A.-Fairfax High School.

ENOSBURG FALLS--The Artist In Residence Gallery hosts a special Enosburg Community Art Project this month. The artists used interviews with 28 Enosburg residents of all ages from area newcomers to multi-generational Enosburg natives to create a series of intimate portraits. ART ON THE WALLS
The A.I.R. gallery hosts a free meet-the-artists reception with refreshments tonight from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. The exhibition of 28 art pieces with accompanying stories and photographs will be on display through the month of March.
This project was sponsored by the Artist in Residence Gallery, the Enosburg Conservation Commission, the Friends of the Opera House at Enosburg Falls, the Enosburg Historical Society, and Enosburg High School, and was funded in part by the Vermont Arts Council.
The Artist in Residence art cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 45 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The Village Frame Shoppe is located within the coop as a resident framer. The Blue Crayon, a small private studio, is available there for individual or small group lessons. The gallery, located at 349 Main Street, is open Wednesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m.
ST ALBANS--The Northwestern Medical Center Gallery hosts Vermont landscape photographer David Juaire this month. "This is an annual event for us to display David's beautiful photographs of Vermont in all its glory," coordinator Dolly MacNeil said.
A Franklin County native, Mr. Juaire was brought up on a dairy farm. He works primarily with a medium format (film) camera and in digital photography. Vermont Life Magazine features his work in the magazine and calendars.
The show continues through the end of March.
ESSEX JUNCTION--On Tap at the Lincoln Inn presents the Nobby Reed Project in Blues Night at tonight at 7 p.m. On Tap also has Phil Abair Band tomorrow at 9 p.m., the Rhythm Rockets on Saturday at 9 p.m. The Inn is going for another night of music on Wednesdays with a rotation of bluegrass, Celtic, jazz (except for March) and singer/songwriters. Celtic night this Wednesday features Trinity at 7 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE

NEW HAMPSHIRE--The 8th Annual March Mandolin Festival features Will Patton of Bakersfield plus Mike Compton, Glen Loper, and David Surette with Susie Burke at the Concord Community Music School in Concord tomorrow through Sunday. The Festival includes group lessons, workshops, jam sessions and evening concerts.
There is also a Friday night concert at the Stone Church in Newmarket, New Hampshire.

ST. ALBANS--The Franklin County Humane Society hosts its 4th annual Chocolate by the Pound & Silent Jewelry Auction at the Saint Albans Historical Museum on Saturday from 2 -- 5 p.m. Fiddleheads will play live music through the afternoon. Bid on donated bling!
The popular all-you-can-indulge-in chocolate extravaganza costs $15 in advance or $20 at the door. All proceeds benefit the adoptable animals at FCHS.

ST. ALBANS--The St. Albans Historical Museum and the Osher Lifelong Learning Series presents science teacher Chris Hungerford with a presentation of the diversity and beauty of Vermont waterfalls on Wednesday at 11 a.m. The lecture will include the types, features and geology of waterfalls as well as photography techniques unique to capturing falling water.
Subscribers may attend any sessions of the series. Lectures are also open to non-members for a fee of $5 per lecture. All events are held on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. in the Bliss Auditorium on the third floor at the Museum.
COLCHESTER--Events for Tom presents A Concert for St. Patrick in the McCarthy Arts Center at St. Michael’s College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Fiddleheads, the Highland Weavers, the Sleepless Knights (Sarah James, Ben Miller, Declan McCabe and Richard Kujawa), the Celtic Knights and the McFadden Academy of Irish Dance will perform. General admission is $8. Saint Michael's students free with ID and children under 12 free.
Co-sponsored by the Events for Tom series, the Edmundite Campus Ministry and the Celtic Knights, the proceeds will benefit the Tom Sustic Fund for families of children with cancer and Catholic Relief Services. Call 802.654.2536 for more info.
