      ArtBits always features a calendar of the goings on of Franklin County artists. Check out these events around Franklin County. Each issue includes the entire text of our weekly newspaper column.


      Stop in for live music and more at the Fairfax Music Sessions at the Foothills Bakery in Fairfax most Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m., at various restaurants around Franklin County throughout the week, at the Bayside in St Albans Town most Sunday afternoons, and the Cambridge CoffeeHouses at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month.
     These gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. The booked performances and acoustic Open Mike Nights feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

THE GIFT OF ART

      Great gospel music tunes on CD come from Tim Stetson of Enosburg. He'll Never Let Me Fall features a dozen old and new favorites in Southern, Country, Christian Country, and old time hymns styles.       The Furchgott-Sourdiffe winter group show, Simple Gifts: A Show for All Seasons, has several new small and medium-sized paintings by Gail Salzman of Fairfield. The show and sale continues through January 30, 2010.

      Stuff it! Writer and St. Albans Messenger columnist Leon Thompson's Not Too Awful Bad: A Storyteller's Guide to Vermont will be available for stocking stuffing at the Better Planet Books, Toys & Hobbies storewide event tomorrow evening at 4 p.m.


      Village Frame Shoppe offers 10% on framing for one item or 25% off the complete order with framing of two or more items, through December 12. Store Hours this month are. in St. Albans (at RSVP) on Tuesday - Thursday 10-5, Friday 10-12, and Saturday 10-5. In Enosburg (at AIR) on Wednesday - Friday 1-5 and Saturday 10-5.


ON STAGE LIVE

ALBURGH--"Back By Popular Demand," the Alburgh Library presents Jim Branca with the Second Annual Christmas Community Sing-a-long for family fun for the old and the young, for kids from 1 to 101 on Friday 6:30 p.m.
      Mr. Branca will lead singing of all the classics from nostalgic and fun to ancient and sacred. Marnie Branca will do crafts with the kids.
      "There will be lots of goodies and treats," Mr. Branca said. "Those library ladies know how to dish it out I tell ya!"


BURLINGTON--North End Studio presents Anna Patton and Housetop tomorrow evening at 8 p.m. The Southern Vermont four-piece "harmony singin' swingin' string" band brings crooning to a hot backwoods jug band
      Housetop includes Anna Patton on harmony and clarinet; songwriter and vaudevillian Peter Siegel on rhythm guitar and high tenor vocals; Erica Morse on upright bass and sisterly vocals with fiddler Naomi Morse
      Admission is by suggested donation of $10.


ENOSBURG FALLS--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls presents the Enosburg Town Band and Community Chorus with their annual Holiday Concert at the on Sunday afternoon. This family event celebrates traditional music in Franklin County's historic (and heated) theater. The concert will feature traditional hymns and seasonal songs.
      Admission is by donation for the benefit of the Friends of the Opera House. Call 802.933.6171 for more info.


COLCHESTER--The Vermont Youth Orchestra presents the VYO Chorus and Youth Concert Chorale Winter Concerts in the Elley-Long Music Center at Saint Michael's College on Sunday at 7 p.m.
      The VYO designed the program, Make That Change; Songs of Freedom & Hope, around choral works that reflect the struggle for freedom within ourselves individually and in society. It features Abendlied and Richte mich, Gott by Felix Mendelssohn; the African American Spirituals Way Over In Beulah Land and Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel?; Eric Whitacre's, motet "Lux Arumque"; "Will You Be There" by Michael Jackson, and more.
      The Chorus and the Youth Concert Chorale are in their third year with more than one hundred outstanding middle and high school singers from across Vermont. Jeffrey Buettner conducts and Annemieke Spoelstra is accompanist.

ST. ALBANS and BURLINGTON--The Green Arts Bus and the Flynn Center present A Canadian Brass Christmas on Tuesday. The Green Arts Bus will leave the Franklin County Senior Center at 6:30 p.m. The Canadian Brass classical repertoire highlights baroque music. The program includes winter music, Christmas favorites, Hanukkah tunes, and other cherished compositions.
      Admission including the ticket and a round-trip bus ride is $50 per person. The deadline to purchase tickets has passed.
      Six additional seats may be available for people with existing or season tickets. The cost of the round trip bus ticket alone is $10.

JEFFERSONVILLE--The Village Tavern hosts Open Mic at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.


ST. ALBANS--Chow Bella offers Music to Dine By with John Cassel on the piano on Wednesdays at 6:30 and the jazz and improv of Vern Colburn on the Piano on Fridays at 5:30. Call 802.524.1405 or click here for more info.


CALL FOR ARTISTS

     Make your own holiday or note cards or create block prints that can decorate fabric. The Opera House in Enosburg Falls presents Relief Printmaking on Saturday at 11 a.m. Expect to get dirty!
      Instructor Lyna Lou Nordstrom will guide students creating prints from speedy cut. No press is necessary; prints will be transferred by hand. No experience necessary. Ms. Nordstrom and has been teaching and creating art for more that 25 years. She exhibits artwork in juried shows nationally and at Artist In Residence Gallery in Enosburg Falls
      The workshop costs $45 plus $5 materials fee. Call Ms. Nordstrom (802.658.0019) for more info.

     Eve Jacobs-Carnahan of Montpelier knits sculptural fiber art. Her works range from small, humorous pieces to serious themes such as terrorism. She draws "inspiration from the colors and textures of fibers." Her site includes new work, note cards, a gallery, her artistic process, current exhibits, and contact info.
