The St. Albans Free Library and the Franklin County Peace Alliance presents Orwell Rolls in His Grave, the final show in a set of three documentaries on Tuesday, February 26, at 6 p.m. Directed by Robert Kane Pappas, the film looks at the corporate ownership of the media in the U.S. At a time when I personally fret when I see all three network news anchors lead with the same story about a three-legged pig in Dogpatch, Arkansas, this film explores what the media doesn’t like to talk about: itself. Orwell Rolls takes a one-sided look at the loss of diversity in the information we receive. MOVIE NIGHT
The film includes Tony Benn, former member of the British Parliament, Vincent Bugliosi, former L.A. prosecutor, Charles Lewis, director of the Center for Public Integrity, film maker Michael Moore, Danny Schecter, author and former producer for ABC and CNN, and Bernie Sanders.
The library series aired No End in Sight: The American Occupation of Iraq in November and Thirst in January.
The Fairfax Community Theater Company will hold auditions for Agatha Christie's A Murder is Announced starting Tuesday at 7pm at BFA-Fairfax. CALL FOR THESPIANS
A notice that a murder will take place on Friday, October 13th, at 6:30 p.m. at Little Paddocks will appear in the Chipping Cleghorn Gazette. Roles are available for a dozen adult men and women in a range of ages for this murder mystery featuring Miss Marple. Auditions continue February 27 and 28.
The play will be staged April 24-27. Walter Mahany directs.

SOUTH BURLINGTON--Higher Ground presents The Local Scene featuring Summer Sounds favorites Mango Jam plus the Sepiatones, Roku and the Mo' Funk Orchestra, all on Friday in the Showcase Lounge at 8 p.m.

JEFFERSONVILLE--The Village Tavern hosts Open Mic at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.
FAIRFAX--The regular Music Session continues Saturday with acoustic instrumentalists playing traditional songs at the Foothills Bakery, 1-4:30 p.m. Admission is free by donation.
WATERVILLE--Cambridge Arts Council presents community dances on Saturdays at 7 p.m. in the Waterville Town Hall. The evening will feature contras, squares, circles, play parties and singing games and all dances will be taught. Bring a partner, the entire family, or come alone. Caller Mark Sustic offers dance instruction. Frank Heyburn and Michele Lajoie play. Guest musicians with acoustic instruments are welcome. Admission is $5 per person and $10 for families at the door.
THE GOOD EARTH (March 15)--This online fine art painting competition features People, Places, and Objects from Life and is open to all painters 18 and older. Four cash awards and 10 honorable mentions total more than $5,000. Submit all entries digitally. Entry fee. Winners will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, and exhibited online through June 1. CALL FOR FIBER ART (March 15)--The International Fiber Collaborative provides people working with crafts to come together from all over the world to express their concerns about their countries extreme dependency on oil for energy. This event calls for participants to crochet, knit, stitch, patch, or collage a 3' x 3' square fiber panel to express each participants concern towards an OIL/ENERGY THEME. 800 panels will be sewn together to completely cover an abandoned gas station and gas pumps in central New York. 2008 INTERNATIONAL STUDENT FILM FESTIVAL (March 31)--The Festival celebrates its 6th year as a global authority for student film makers. Categories include Drama, Documentary, Comedy, Music Video, PSA/Commercial, Sports, and Animation. The Collegiate Nationals, a CBS company, will host the top three videos from each category for online voting. Winning videos will be broadcast online and on television at public access stations. Clips from all student entries will be featured online and in the festival program. Grand prizes include; Sony HD camera, round trip tickets to Colorado for the collegiate nationals, Final Cut Pro Studio, Apple Software, and much more. Facebook announced over the weekend that it had fixed the problems that made deleting your account and all its information impossible. The social networking site lets people identify themselves online and link to online "friends." FACEBOOK UPDATE (ONLINE EDITION ONLY)
Unfortunately, they were a wee mite hasty.
The "technical" problems arose with the new Facebook account deletion form. It seems the empty account continued to exist after all of its data was removed despite confirmation by e-mail of the deletion from Facebook's technical support team. The empty profile links remain in Google and remaining Facebook friends could still see themselves and any applications in that profile.
Facebook says it's fixed now.
Our caveat from last week is perhaps more true this week: Don't post anything online that you wouldn't want your mother--orGiantMegaSellathon-dot-com or me--to see.
Tim Kavanaugh's Late Night Saturday locally produced on WCAX-3 hosted the Jazz and Pop group of the 40th Army Band for his 50th episode. The 40th Army Band consists of the complete Concert Band and four smaller groups called MSTs (Musical Support Teams). The Band also has a country group, a brass group, and "a woodwind group on steroids (saxes, clarinets, flute, French horn, tuba and drums)," said Kevin Loomis. CLICK HERE: ART SITE OF THE WEEK
