The St. Albans Free Library presents a workshop today at 2 p.m. for advanced citizens interested in writing their memoirs. The group meets monthly to write and discuss the pieces of their personal histories. WRITERS’ MEDLEY

ST ALBANS--The Council on the Future of Vermont will host a community forum this evening, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at BFA to gather the reflections and thoughts of Vermonters about this state and its future. The questions include, What does Vermont mean to you? What common values do Vermonters share? What are our challenges and opportunities as a state? and What should our priorities be for the future? FUTURE THINK

ST. ALBANS--The STAART Gallery will host a reception tomorrow evening from 7 - 9 p.m. to celebrate the work of five artists. Louise Counos has now joined the Staart Gallery exhibitors. The photography of Suzanne Kenyon, Ron Peltier, Jeremy Read, watercolors by Mary Ann Godin and pastels by Ms. Counos are highlighted this month at the gallery. The reception will feature refreshments, extra pieces from each artist's collection and the artists themselves who will be present for questions. ART ON THE WALLS
Louise Counos displays four pieces in pastel and paint. Precious, Chickadee on Sunflower, Flowers at St. Lukes, and Pears Galore demonstrate her subtle use of color. Mary Ann Godin shows A Holiday Favorite, Kitchen Cloth, and Zinnias on Kitchen Cloth, as well as other watercolors from her collection. Ron Peltier adds text and poetry to the sunsets that are his muse. Jeremy Read presents four photographs of historical re-enactments from the northeast region. Suzanne Kenyon looks for new details and new perspectives in her near-abstract close-ups of insects and landscapes.

HYDE PARK--The Second Congregational Church continues its concert series with the Constitution Brass Quintet in a salute to classical brass tomorrow evening at 7 p.m. ON STAGE LIVE
The CBQ has performed in Summer Sounds as well as at the National Governor's Conference and Burlington's First Night. Their repertoire includes over four centuries of music composition, from the 16th century to the present, from the Renaissance to ragtime and beyond.
The members are Jo Anne Edwards, Trumpet; Chris Rivers, Trumpet; Tom Whitney, French Horn; John Mead, Trombone; and Bill Keck, Tuba
The concert quality acoustics of the church sanctuary are provided by 30 foot arched ceilings and unobstructed space. The series continues in February, March, and April. Home baked refreshments will be served at intermission midway through the presentation. Admission is $10 at the door or $7 for students and $5 for preschoolers.
ESSEX JUNCTION--Summer Sounds favorites Rumble Doll plays the Lincoln Inn tomorrow at 9 p.m. and the Phil Abair Band takes over on Saturday, also at 9 p.m. Tuesday evening is Bluegrass Jam night at 7 p.m. Call 802.878.3309 or click here for more info.
MONKTONBORO--Vermont fiddler Pete Sutherland will hold a traditional Fiddle Class for intermediate players and thrill seeking violinists in his home on Monday, 7-8:30 p.m., and at the North End Studio in Burlington on Wednesday, 7-8 p.m. The home classes will continue "most" Monday and Wednesday evenings through the winter. The tuition is $25/session at home and $20/shorter session in the studio. Call Mr. Sutherland (802.453.3795) for info.
Mr. Sutherland has also joined Woods Tea Company as they tour with a rotating roster of "fourth" players that includes David Gusakov and Aaron Flynn.
The St. Albans Free Library and the Franklin County Peace Alliance present the second in a set of three documentaries in the Library on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. MOVIE NIGHT
Thirst, a film first shown as part of the PBS P.O.V. (Point of View) series, tells of global corporations chasing "blue gold," The rapid privatization of local water supplies as population growth, pollution, and scarcity drive up their value means that communities lose control of this precious resource. The 2004 documentary shows the conflict between public stewardship and private profit in Bolivia, India and Stockton, California,
The series is free and open to the public. It began in November and continues in February.
FIGURE DRAWING (continuing)--The Staart Gallery will begin its next series of figure drawing sessions at the Gallery in February. Owner Stina Plant needs a female model "so we can split the sessions" as well as artists to take part. Call 802.524.5700 or click here for more info. HELP WANTED
DIRECTOR SEARCH (February 15)--Vermont Hand Crafters seeks a part-time Executive Director. The statewide arts organization wants a creative, flexible individual able to develop promotional initiatives, marketing, and development, as well as to run the place. Singer/songwriter Aaron Flinn is a multi-instrumentalist who has performed across North America, Europe, Hawaii, and Australia, on the stages at The Flynn, The Great American Music Hall, and the Fox Theater in Boulder. He won the 1997 Acoustic Guitar Search in Burlington, Vermont and has worked with the Tragically Hip, Govt. Mule, Big Head Todd and the Monsters, and Jefferson Starship. The Berklee College of Music graduate was named the best folk artist in the state of Vermont. He has released his sixth full length album, Giving up the Ghost. CLICK HERE: ART SITE OF THE WEEK
Mr. Flinn performs in a solo acoustic show on Monday at the Lincoln Inn in Essex Junction. This is one in a series of his Monday gigs there.
