Stop in for live music and more at the Fairfax Music Sessions at the Foothills Bakery in Fairfax most Saturday afternoons at 1 p.m., at ChowBella in St Albans 8-10 p.m. most Wednesday evenings, at the Kept Writer in St Albans mostly once each month, at the Bayside in St Albans Town most Sunday afternoons, and the Cambridge CoffeeHouses at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month.
These gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. The booked performances and acoustic Open Mike Nights feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

The Vermont Association of Theaters and Theater Artists (VATTA) will host the 16th Annual State Audition and Interview Day at the Royall Tyler Theater at UVM on Saturday March 6. This annual gathering gathers theater people from around the state to audition and interview for the professional theaters in Vermont. CALL FOR THESPIANS
The VATTA auditions are an important annual event in Vermont Theater. draw theater artisans from all over the northeast (and beyond) seeking the experience of working in Vermont. This is a new venue for this 16th year old event.
Auditions and interviews are by appointment only. Performers will audition for about 15 theater producers and film/video casting agents from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. College or high school theater students (or younger) may audition for younger roles or apprenticeships. Each performers will be assigned a 3-minute time slot in which to present monologues plus an optional song. The process is open to actors of all ages, equity and non-equity. There is a $20 processing fee for Vermont residents and Vermont students or $30 for out-of-state talent.
The VATTA audition day also invites designers, technical production, and management staff to interview for summer and year-round positions in the state's theaters. Producers will set up tables in the theater during breaks throughout the day and from 1:15-2 p.m. to meet staff and review portfolios of their work. There is a $15 processing fee for Vermont residents and Vermont students or $20 for out-of-state professionals.

CALL FOR NEW PLAYS (February 28)--City Theater produces and premieres short plays in its annual Summer Shorts Festival, a series 14-16 short plays. Each fully produced, Equity produced play runs 3-12 minutes. Royalties are paid. They will accept 2 submissions of comedies, dramas, and musicals per playwright. No plays longer than 12 pages or requiring children and no email submissions. Click here.
NATIONAL FAIR HOUSING POSTER COMPETITION (March 1)--On the 50th anniversary of Brown v Board of Education the National Fair Housing Alliance competition will commemorate the linkage between neighborhood integration and school desegregation. GATEWAY 2004 NATIONAL JURIED ART SHOW (March 26)--This City of Farmington and the Northwest New Mexico Arts Council event is open to all media for artists age 18 or older residing in the United States. $3500 in awards. Email E-mail for a prospectus.
POETRY PRIZE (March 31)--The Glasgow Prize at Washington & Lee University is open to poets with only 1 published poetry book. Prize $2500, publication and reading. No fee. Click here.
The Brief Guide to Internet Resources in Theatre and Performance Studies is maintained by Ken McCoy, Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Theatre Arts at Stetson University in Florida. The Guide is "based on what [Dr. McCoy has] learned as a seeker of information on the internet, which is mainly how to quickly find information and resources in a medium where their sheer quantity is overwhelming." CURRENTLY READING: "I'm reading 'Every Living Thing' ['James Herriot's Yorkshire: A Guided Tour With the Beloved Veterinarian Through the Land of All Creatures Great And Small And Every Living Thing, Gloriously Photographed and Memorably Described'] by James Herriot, and photographer Derry Brabbs," she said. "It's nice writing and after dealing with Act 250 and Income Tax, I needed something light."
Ms. Favreau recently read "Plain Truth: A Novel" by Jodi Picoult. It tells the story of an unmarried Amish teenager accused of smothering her baby and the Philadelphia lawyer who defends her. At Christmas she finished Living History, Hillary Rodham Clinton's safe autobiography that outlines her childhood, college years, politics, and her courtship with Bill Clinton as well as the campaign trail, national health care reform, human rights, Whitewater, and impeachment.
"It took me close to a year to read it," she said. "My suggestion is read the first few chapters and read the last few chapters and forget the rest."
VERMONT AUTHOR: "Chris Bohjalian is good," she said. "I have to read fiction once in a while."
