ArtBits always features a calendar of the goings on of Franklin County artists. Check out these events around Franklin County. Each issue includes the entire text of our weekly newspaper column. STUFF YOU SHOULDN'T MISS
Stop in for live music and more at the Fairfax Music Sessions at the Foothills Bakery in Fairfax most Saturday afternoons, at the Kept Writer in St Albans most Friday and Saturday evenings, at the Bayside in St Albans Town most Sunday afternoons, and the Cambridge CoffeeHouses at 7 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month.
These gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. The booked performances and acoustic Open Mike Nights feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

TWO GUITARS ARE COMING--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls plans an elegant evening with the Music for Two Guitars next Saturday, June 21. Edward Flower and Joel Brown will present a program that ranging from English folksongs to the Spanish classics to the Baroque. The event is part of the ongoing Opera House Mentors Series.
Music for Two Guitars will feature Sinfonia, BWV 29, Bach, Let Us Take the Road, Handel, and Music for a While, Purcell, plus traditional English-language songs and the Spanish Romance Anonimo and more.
The Opera House Mentors Series presents established artists to the community and acts as an inspiration for up-and-coming Franklin County performers.
Music for Two Guitars will be presented in the Opera House at Enosburg Falls on Saturday, June 21, at 8 p.m. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and $5 for 12 and under at the door. VERMONT MAPLE FESTIVAL SUMMER SOUNDS--The Vermont Maple Festival rejoins the AAC to present the 13th season of Summer Sounds concerts, starting with the blues and soul of the Sandra Wright Band on Sunday, June 22, in Taylor Park. Be there or be square.
Sponsored by five area Towns, the business community, and the All arts Council, the Vermont Maple Festival Summer Sounds concerts are always on a Sunday night, always in a town park, always at 7 p.m. and always free. The series will travel to Franklin, Highgate, St. Albans Bay, Taylor Park, and Richford with include nationally known country, jazz, folk, and pop rock music, ethnic dance, and a gospel choir. Watch this space for Atlantic Crossing, the Burlington Ecumenical Gospel Choir with Tammy Fletcher, Grippo Funk, the Milton Community Band, Jenni Johnson and Friends, an old fashioned square dance, the Upstate New Yorkers, and many more.
Besides the music, food is a big part of the fun of an outdoor concert. Local community groups will host each event with special activities, family fun, bake sales, grilled hot dogs, popcorn, and plenty of Vermont maple syrup to make every Sunday a great family holiday in the park. This year, the BPW, the Congregational Church, Foster Grandparents, Franklin County Humane Society, Highgate Cares, Highgate Library, Highgate Methodist Church, Highgate Historical Society, Holy Trinity, and Modern Woodmen will host the concerts in each town.
"Free" concerts are expensive to stage. The towns, local business sponsors, and the All Arts Council hire the bands, create the publicity, and set up all 12 shows. SHELDON--Grace Church presents Aurora Ancient Music, a homegrown Vermont ensemble with international connections in the early music world in the second concert of the Summer Music at Grace season on Monday at 7:30 p.m. Aurora is performing three concerts in the country churches of northern Vermont this June.
Iberian Miracles is a dramatic program of the songs of 13th century Spain under King Alfonso the Wise. He gathered and wrote hundreds of songs of love and praise in the troubadour tradition. Aurora Ancient Music is Liz Thompson (former director of the medieval ensemble Anima), Susan Comen, Amity Baker, and Judith McManis, joined by instrumentalists Mary Ann Samuels playing hammered dulcimer and recorders and Susan Reit playing harp and recorders.

FRANKLIN COUNTY SHOWS (June 30)--Visual artists for two major All Arts Council art exhibits: the Red-White-and-Blue visual art exhibition July 5-6 is open to two- and three-dimensional Franklin County artists.
