Stop in for the AAC CoffeeHouses at 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of every month. These gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and workshops. We come together on the second Wednesday for a booked musical performance and an art exhibit at Simple Pleasures in St Albans. On the fourth Wednesday come to the Kept Writer in St Albans for acoustic Open Mike Night featuring music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.
Summer Sounds is at its mid-point and we've lost Jewel. Regular listeners to WWSR and WLFE will recognize Jewel and Jasper as the couple promoting every Summer Sounds concert on the air. Unfortunately, Jewel has gone missing. WHERE'S JEWEL?
WLFE's Matt Henry has heard that she is due in Highgate on Sunday, but despite having the Official Summer Sounds Quest tool kit (great music, butterfly net, suit of armor, cooler, monopoly license, sword and magic tax, and more), I'm not convinced I can find her alone.
So far, I've looked high notes and I've looked low in Highgate, St Albans Bay, St Albans City, and Richford with no luck. We have baited the parks with lots of great music. Tim used the butterfly net in Richford. My suit of armor protected me from the Komodo dragons in Taylor Park and I carry a cooler to every concert. Even the monopoly license (needed because we have the outdoor best concert series in the state) didn't help.
Here's the scoop: listen to WWSR and WLFE for clues and come to the Summer Sounds concerts. Maybe you'll turn up a Jewel.
Summer Sounds is in Highgate Municipal Park this Sunday as Chevalier Drilling presents the Burlington Ecumenical Gospel Choir at 7 p.m. The concerts are always in a Town park, always on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m., and always free. SINGING TO THE CHOIR
The summer Burlington Ecumenical Gospel Choir is a sixteen voice chorus based in the Burlington area. They are led by John Hagwood and feature BFA's former chorus director, Evelyn Kwanza.
"The program includes a combination of uplifiting and ministering songs," Evelyn said. Some arrangements are taken from hymns and there will be plenty of contemporary gospel plus an Island medley of gospel songs with a Jamaican lilt.
Just before the concert, stop by for Dessert in the Park at the Holy Trinity social starting at 6:30 p.m. The social hour is a chance to visit with friends and eat everything from hot dogs to sticky stuff to delicious desserts..
Summer Sounds concerts in Highgate are presented by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and sponsored by Chevalier Drilling, Dexter Products, the Highgate Manor, O. C. McCuin & Sons, Ray's Extrusion Dies & Tubing, and The Tyler Place.
The rain site is the Highgate Methodist Church. The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. Check www.AllArtsCouncil.org for more info.
ST ALBANS--Green Actor's Guild presents Into The Woods tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday evenings at 8 p.m. at Bellows Free Academy. The musical is a Stephen Sondheim-James Lapine story that weaves classic fairy tales into the tale of a barren Baker and his Wife, who seek to break a spell of childlessness laid upon them by the crabby Witch. Founded by Pat and Megan Willey, Green Actor's Guild is a St Albans-based community theater company. The cast and musicians are adults, high school, and college students from Franklin and Chittenden Counties. Click here or e-mail for more info

FRANKLIN--Sterling Weed and the Imperial Orchestra play an old fashioned community ball and dance social, Saturday 8-10:30 p.m. in the Franklin Town Hall.
Unsure of where your feet go? Kristy Leffler of Enosburg will hold dance lessons at 7 p.m.
Admission is by donation (the suggested donation is $5 adult/$3 children and seniors); your added donation will help the Franklin United Church youth group bring you exotic refreshments and will benefit the youth program. The Ball is open to ages 1 to 100 (or more). Bug spray is optional.
SHELDON--Classical guitarist Peter Matthews returns to Grace for his third season in the Summer Music at Grace series next Wednesday evening, August 8.
Peter Matthews studied with Stephen Aron and Thomas Patterson. He has performed in master classes for the Assad Duo, David Russell, David Tanenbaum, Abel Carlevaro, Norbert Kraft, and Nicholas Goluses. He has taught at the University of Akron and the University of Arizona. He currently directs the music department at Richford High School. Peter and Wendy Matthews live in Sheldon with their three children.

GREEN MOUNTAIN NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP--Gustav Verderber offers "a pleasant and fulfilling week in the heart of the Green Mountains" learning the field techniques of nature photography. The workshop begins August 10 on the mountaintop campus of Johnson State College with access to ponds, forests, wetlands, eerie bogs, plus an indoor pool and gym. Reservations required. The All Arts Board of Directors meets Tuesday, August 7, to welcome new members of our board. AAC STUFF
Several of our most active board members have moved out of state. That creates a large void in both our board and in our membership. The AAC is reaching out to the business community, to teachers, and to artists to seek new volunteer board members. If you are interested and/or know someone who doesn't know how to say "no," E-mail the All Arts Council .
I am happy to announce that Deogracias Esguerra, Kate Kinney, and Jon Scott will join the AAC Board this month. Dr. Esguerra has lots of plans for new arts activities, fund raising, and community projects. Our former treasurer, Kate left to grow her own business. She returns to us refreshed and looking for new challenges. Jon is Facilities Manager for the Opera House at Enosburg Falls; he will help our two organizations work more closely and help us concentrate our search for a home.
The AAC board meeting will be held Tuesday, August 7, at 7 p.m. in NMC Conference Room #1.
AAC member Joy Mashtare's dream watercolor and acrylic paintings are on exhibit this month at NMC. Joy is currently studying Dream Psychology with Jason Conway at CCV. ART ON THE WALLS
