ENOSBURG--The Opera House at Enosburg Falls present the Rocky Horror Picture Show with a live shadow cast at the House on Friday at 7 p.m. The "shadow cast," a group of pantomime actors, will play the show in real time in the Opera House with the film. They won't sing or speak but they will be acting in conjunction with the movie in costume. FILM
The 1975 musical comedy stars Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as a newly engaged couple who break down in and seek help at the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter the sweet transvestite from transsexual Transylvania, portrayed by Tim Curry. The annual Transylvanian conventioneers, and a few lost monsters, sing and dance through this campy salute to horror movies and sexual liberation. Rocky Horror has the longest-running theatrical release in film history. Come in costume.

ST. ALBANS--Something spooky has this way gotten! The 11th annual Northwest Nightmares Film Festival fills the Welden Theater on Monday at 6 p.m.
Every October, aspiring film makers find their work shown on the big screen "to a rabid audience of home-grown horror fans, family, and friends." Hundreds of students, parents, artists, and whole communities have found joy in film making, learned valuable skills, and connected with their communities over terrifying tales of ghosts, ghouls, and ghastly horrors. Twiggs will host the awards ceremony and after-party after the show.

JEFFERSONVILLE--Bryan Memorial Gallery fearures Nature Through Abstraction in the Jeffersonville gallery and on Facebook. This week's artist is Steve Clark with Cows at Home on display. ART ON THE WALLS

MILTON and WESTFORD--The Milton Artists' Guild has back-to-back events this week. Sylvia Oblak leads the Paint and Sip- Hocus Pocus for spooktacular glow-in-the-dark festivities at the MAG this evening. She continues with the Neon Glow Paint and Sip at the Westford Country Store and Café on Friday. Each event starts at 6 p.m. The cost for each is $45 for members and $50 for non-members. MONTGOMERY--Montgomery Center for the Arts hosts a Date Night Paint and Sip with Patrick Murphy on Friday at 6 p... Mr. Murphy will take participants step by step through an original piece of art. All supplies, canvas, paint, brushes are included. He is renowned not only for his own work but as a long standing art teacher and member of the Missisquoi River Band. MORRISVILLE--River Arts hosts the in-person, October "Paint & Sip Foliage in Watercolor" with Yvette "Evie" Mason on Friday at 6 p.m. Ms. Mason, will guide participants in tracing foliage and expressing the fall through vivid watercolor. Each class features a different local painting instructor.

The Vermont Creative Network has named Corrina Thurston as Zone Agent for the Chittenden County Zone. She will lead the work of VCN regionally. CREATIVE NETWORK
The VCN has six geographic regions known as "Creative Zones" in Vermont. Zone activities and projects are managed by Zone Agents in collaboration with a self-governed leadership team of diverse regional voices. Ms. Thurston is a longtime creative sector advocate and serves as the executive director of the Milton Artists' Guild.

ALBANS--Spooky Saturday takes over Downtown St. Albans on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. There will be pumpkin decorating, witches dancing (shake their brooms), a costume contest, spooky organ music, exhibits come to life at the Saint Albans Museum, and the Nightmare at City Hall. ST. ALBANS--Osher Lifelong Learning Institute continues the Fall weekly program series with Kelly Viens to discuss the St. Albans Recreation Department and Hard'ack Recreation Area in the Greg Brown Lodge at Hard'ack on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Isaac Bashaw will introduce the year round community programming at Hard'ack Pool. COVID-19 is still here. Cases, hospitalizations and deaths have trended up statewide since August. There were 10 new admissions in Franklin County, a decline from 13 the prior week. As of October 7, there were six COVID-related deaths reported statewide in the last week for a pandemic total of 1,032 in Vermont. COVID NEWS
Vaccines are available for COVID, the Flu, and RSV, the three main viruses that cause people to end up in a hospital in the Fall and Winter respiratory virus season. COVID vaccines remain free to all people living in the United States via Medicare or health insurance although insurance denials and delays are being reported. The free shots are also available for uninsured people through federally qualified health centers, pharmacies participating in the federal Bridge Program, or district health department offices. Free masks are also available at many of the same locations. Click here for more info.
Some health plans will also offer partial coverage of COVID-19 treatments such as Paxlovid but that will be plan dependent. As always, check with your insurer for specific information on your plan.
The state and many municipalities also still have home antigen tests, available in libraries and town halls or food pantries.
The Health Department still recommends following best practices. Call 855.722.7878 or visit healthvermont.gov for more info about the first or second dose and for booster shots of the vaccine.
My own plan remains unchanged, especially since our precautions have waned and the new COVID variant dodges our current immunity. I got the COVID and Flu shots, and the boosters, and I still take precautions because neither vaccine nor "natural immunity" is 100% foolproof. I wash my hands. I double mask with a genuine N95 mask (not a bandana and not a "chin strap") plus a surgical mask where ever I can't control the airflow. It isn't much of a burden and it mostly protects me from all the people without masks I see in stores and concerts.

ESSEX--The Double E presents Salvation Farms Aid benefit concert with the Grippo Funk Band, Al's Pals, the All Night Boogie Band, and a visual performance by Desmond O'Neil at the T-Rex Theater on Saturday at 7 p.m. Salvation Farms is a non-profit working to build increased resilience in Vermont's food system through agricultural surplus management. "The benefit concert was designed in the image of Farm Aid and inspired by Phish's Halloween concerts. We encourage you to dress up as your favorite musician." There will also be a silent auction.
