ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on multidisciplinary artist Kristina Bolduc, stained and fused glass artist Jennifer Buckner, explorer and painter Kati Christoffel, and watercolor painter and fiber artist Deborah Travis with a live reception at the gallery this evening at 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. A.I.R. will continue celebrating the monthly Featured Artists online and on Facebook. The art and fine craft cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 40 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Center for the Arts presents the exhibit, Altered Landscape, the Art of Alan Morse, at MCA-Kelton Hall through September. His works take the traditional scenes of Vermont, the farms, woodlands, and pastures, and breaks them down into blocks of light and color before "altering" them. The results are lush landscapes that are unique.

ST. ALBANS AREA CREATIVES (Now)--St. Albans Community Arts asks artists and anyone who "supports the arts in a personal or professional setting" to fill out an Artist & Community Partner Survey. Click here to fill out the survey. CALL FOR ARTISTS

NORTH HERO--Island Arts continues community dancing to lively music in Easy Folk Dancing for All Ages with dances from Armenia, Bulgaria, France, Greece, Israel, Serbia, Turkey and more with instructor Leslie Alpert in the Island Arts Center on Monday at 6 - 7 p.m. DANCE
All dances are taught. No partner required. No experience required, and new students are always welcome. Bring your water bottle. Classes will continue every Monday through September 25. WESTFORD--The Vermont Humanities Council presents historian Howard Coffin with Vermont, 1800 and Froze to Death: the Cold Year of 1816 at the Westford Brick Meeting House on Wednesday at 6 p.m. 1816 was the year without summer, a year of frosts every month, dark skies, and mysterious lights that drove the belief that the gods were angry. ST. ALBANS--Osher Lifelong Learning Institute begins the Fall weekly program series with Mind Magic with Dr. Steve Taubman in the Greg Brown Lodge at Hard'ack on Wednesday at 11 a.m. "Mind Magic combines elements of comedy and mind reading with a healthy dose of psychology and theater."

MILTON--Social Sundays continue at the Milton Artists' Guild Art Center with free weekly art classes for families at MAG on Sunday at 1 p.m. Each week offers a different project--last week was origami boxes with Julia. MORRISVILLE--The River Arts September Open Studio Figure Drawing returns with a nude session today at 3:30 p.m. There will be quick two minute poses, five minute poses, 20 minute poses, and a long pose at the end. River Arts limits nude sessions to ages 16 and older. The cost is $15 with pre-registration preferred. Click here to register and for more info.
SWANTON--The Swanton Arts Council will hold a Board Meeting and Updates in person at the Swanton Free Public Library on Monday at 6 p.m. IN THE SAC

COVID is still here. The Vermont Department of Health reported August 30 that COVID-19 a total of 27 Vermonters were hospitalized statewide, down from 31 the week before. Cases and hospitalizations have risen over the summer. Cases and hospitalizations continue to rise. There were 25 hospitalizations two weeks ago and seven reported three weeks ago. The numbers seem small but not to our neighbors in the hospital. And the state has recorded 1,002 deaths from the virus since March, 2020. COVID NEWS
COVID vaccines remain free to all people living in the United States, regardless of their immigration or health insurance status. You may be asked to show ID or health insurance, but it's not a requirement. Free masks are also available at many of the same locations. Click here for more info.
Some health plans will offer partial coverage of COVID-19 treatments such as Paxlovid but that will be plan dependent. As always, check with your insurer for specific information on your plan. The state and many municipalities also still has home antigen tests, available in libraries and town halls.
The Health Department still recommends following best practices. Call 855.722.7878 or visit healthvermont.gov for more info about the first or second dose and for booster shots of the vaccine.
My own plan remains unchanged, especially since our precautions have waned. I got the COVID and Flu shots, and the boosters, and I still take precautions because neither vaccine nor "natural immunity" is 100% foolproof. I wash my hands. I double mask with a genuine N95 mask (not a bandana and not a "chin strap") plus a surgical mask where ever I can't control the airflow. It isn't much of a burden and it mostly protects me from all the people without masks I see in stores and concerts.

ST ALBANS TOWN--The weekly St. Albans Bay Farmer's Market and Concert Series concludes with the Jolly Rogers Band today from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. They have had live music in the park every Thursday evening this summer. Find them on Facebook for more info.

SOUTH HERO--Ryan Sweezey and the Midnight Walkers returns to the 2023 Snow Farm Summer Concert Series for the 2023 grand finale this evening at 6:30 p.m. The Ryan Sweezey Band opened the season in June and will close it out under their new band name. Click here for more info.

ST. ALBANS--Northwest Farmers Market fills Taylor Park with live music, handmade crafts, locally grown food, prepared foods, free kids activities on Saturday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The market and the music continue every Saturday through October. Find them on Facebook for more info.
ENOSBURG--Cold Hollow Sculpture Park hosts Circle Singing with musician and artist Patricia Norton on Saturday at 11 a.m. The collective sound-making experience in the Park will have improvisational singing in response to the shapes of the sculptures.

EAST FAIRFIELD--The Meeting House on the Green presents Patti Casey & Colin McCaffrey on the terrace on Saturday at 5 p.m. The award winning Vermont songwriters have sung and played together for decades. Ms. Casey's own New England genre of folk-storytelling-bluegrass has been showcased on NPRs Prairie Home Companion and she performs on national stages. Singer, guitarist, and fiddler Geordie Lynd will join the duo.
Light dinner fare and desserts will be available for sale or bring your own picnic. Admission is by suggested donation of $10 at the door with those under 12 admitted free. ST. ALBANS--Church Street Sounds of the Season presents Vermont Musicians with an Organ Recital by Vaughn Watson at First Congregational Church on Sunday at 3 p.m. Mr Watson will perform the music of J.S. Bach, Louis Vierne, Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Gerald Near, and Frank Bridge. The new program demonstrates the power and majesty of the 1893 Hook and Hastings pipe organ. Concerts are held on the second Sunday of the month.

FAIRFIELD--The Bent Northrop Memorial Library hosts a 35th Anniversary Celebration and the ninth To Bid or Not to Bid Silent Auction at the library on Saturday from 6 - 9 p.m. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
The raffle with a $1000 grand prize returns, thanks to a generous donor. Tickets are $25 each and only 100 will be sold. Tickets are available at the Library from the Friends and at the event. The drawing will be held at the auction, but you don't have to be present to win. The Friends of BNML hope that some will wear their finest 1980's garb to embrace the anniversary.
