TAILGATE PARTY

SWANTON--The arts community of Swanton will hold a Tailgate Paint 'n' Chow Party at the art board by John's bridge on Saturday at 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
There will be lunch and painting and corn hole and bocce and more! Bring a lawn chair and a favorite brush although the group will have plenty of brushes and supplies to paint an artboard. RESTART NEWS

"All state of employees must either be vaccinated or wear a mask and test," Gov. Phil Scott said. Every school but one in the state has a masking requirement.
Vermont reported 1,329 new COVID-19 cases in the last week. Eight more people have died. Franklin County alone reported 113 new cases in the last week. The seven-day average positivity ticked up to 3.1%. Community Transmission is rated High.
Here's my own, still current, advice. Get the shot(s) and take precautions. The vaccines are extraordinarily effective but nothing is 100% foolproof. Wash your hands. Wear a mask where you can't control the airflow around you until we reach the same herd immunity we have for smallpox and once had but lost for measles. Bonus: it will also help protect you from pollen, summer colds, and the winter flu.

ART ON THE WALLS

ST. ALBANS--The Artist In Residence Gallery features different artists each month. This month, the spotlight is on glass artist Cherie Marshall, fiber artist Sally Tarr, and watercolor painter and fiber artist Deborah Travis. Their work is celebrated in the gallery, on the A.I.R. page, and on Facebook.
Chamber Mixers are back. The hospitality and creative ambiance will open the doors at the A.I.R. on Thursday, October 14.
The art and fine craft cooperative features paintings, fiber arts, stained glass, sculpture, lamps, pottery, folk art boxes, scarves, hats and more by 40 Franklin County and surrounding area artists. It is owned and operated by the artists and sponsors. The gallery on South Main Street is open Tuesday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here or find them on Facebook for more info.

AROUND THE STATE--Vermont's Fall Open Studio Weekend begins Saturday at 10 a.m. COVID precautions will be observed so it's a safe chance to tour artists' studios throughout the state. Most Vermont artists and craftspeople work in studios in or near their residences. These founts of production and inspiration can be found in a downtown or at the ends of a dirt road. This statewide celebration is a chance to see the magic at work.
Some of the artists open their working studios to the public only during this weekend. It is an opportunity for them to talk about their work and to demonstrate the skill and processes used to make it. The participating artists plan to get work done as well as teach while visitors poke around.
The free Vermont Studio Tour booklet contains maps and directions. Pick up a hard copy at any studio and at tourist information centers on Vermont's interstate highways.
The Artist In Residence Gallery has fine crafts and art by 40 local artists in St. Albans.
Susie Caron creates pet and wildlife paintings in East Fairfield.
Handweaver Carol Crawford is "enthralled by the moment [her] shuttle crosses the warp and creates the woven piece" in Bakersfield.
Potter Sherry Corbin specializes in Raku Sculpture and functional ware in South Hero.
Toby Fulwiler teaches and creates hardwood wooden bowls at Fairfield Farm Bowls.
The Milton Artists Guild has more than 100 local artists on tap.
Meta Strick paints, draws, cuts, carves, sews and assembles one-of-a-kind Art Dolls as well as paintings, ornaments, and oddities in her studio in Fairfield.
Fiber artist Ellen A. Thompson, makes warm lustrous vibrant and soft pieces at Yellow Dog Farm in South Hero.
Other statewide participants include furniture makers, glass blowers, ironworkers, jewelers, quilters painters, photographers, potters, print makers, sculptors, weavers, and wood carvers. Many galleries will host gallery talks and feature special exhibits in conjunction with this event. Click here for maps, directions, and more info.

Ms. Whitney will show outlining, shading and adding color to pieces and will talk about how wood grain and different species determine a wood burn.
