MORRISVILLE--It's RocktoberFest at River Arts on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. ROCKTOBERFEST

Vermont's weekly case count reached a pandemic high last week RESTART NEWS
Vermont reported 1,301 new COVID-19 cases in the last week. 300 people have died. Franklin County reported 213 new cases and two deaths since September 7. 80% of all hospitalizations are of the 79,000 unvaccinated making those unvaccinated Vermonters about four times more likely than vaccinated Vermonters to contract COVID-19. "A large percentage of these people can be vaccinated but have not done so," Human Services Secretary Mike Smith said.
Here's my own, still current, advice. Get the shot(s) and take precautions. The vaccines are extraordinarily effective but nothing is 100% foolproof. Wash your hands. Wear a mask where you can't control the airflow around you until we reach the same herd immunity we have for smallpox and once had but lost for measles. Bonus: it will also help protect you from pollen, summer colds, and the winter flu.
JEFFERSONVILLE--Bryan Memorial Gallery is hosting a raffle of two paintings by member artists George Van Hook and Susan Larkin. Each piece will be raffled off during the opening reception for Gems & Giants on November 14. The raffle is part of the gallery's 2021 Fall Fundraiser. ART ON THE WALLS

MILTON--The Milton Artists' Guild begins a three-week class, Metal Smithing 101, with instructor Cathy LaClair on Mondays 6 - 9 p.m. The class introduces the arcane and secret techniques of making fine jewelry and ends with new skills and finished pieces. No prior experience is necessary. Supplies are included in the class fee. WORKSHOPS & CLASSES

ST. ALBANS--The Ballad of Ethan Alien with special musical guests Megan Jean and the KFB and Cozy O'Donnell will be shown in Taylor Park on Thursday at 7 p.m. The film starts at dusk. Rain or Shine. The 75-minute film produced by Teo Zagar features the music of several Vermont artists and combines science fiction, music, and Vermont history. FILM

SOUTH HERO--The Blue Paddle on the Bay continues the Live Music Nights on the Bay with Jerborn jerborning this evening, Jim Branca and Tom Buckley pickin' and grinnin' on Friday, Cooie singing live on Saturday, and a special Mystery Guest on Sunday. Music begins at 6 p.m. each evening, rain or shine.

SOUTH BURLINGTON--Higher Ground hosts the Vermont Roots Roadshow in the Showcase Lounge on Friday at 7 p.m. Doors at 6:30.
Vermont acts Saints & Liars, Ida Mae Specker and the Terrible Mountain Stringband, Maple Run Band, and Western Terrestrials will all celebrate the Green Mountain State's legacy of traditional and original music. Admission is $15 - $17. Click here for tickets and more info.
Friday-Sunday, September 24-26
MORRISVILLE--Moog's Joint has a weekend of music in their Live Music Lineup for Fall beginning with the free FlashFest! with Green Mountain Freight, the Aerolites, Seth Yacovone, and Christine Meola on Friday at 6 p.m. The celebration of James "Flash" Gordon will feature some of his favorite local artists. If you have a Flash Hat, be sure to wear it.
Continuing with paid shows on the weekend, Cookie's Hot Club plays live on Saturday night and Lee Ross is on on Sunday, both at 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for each weekend show. Outdoor seating and COVID precautions. Tickets are available in advance at Moog's Joint or online at moogsjoint.com.
Saturday, September 25
ST. ALBANS BAY--Nobby Reed headlines the annual Harvest Festival and Chili Competition in the Bay Park on Saturday from 12 noon - 4 p.m. Live music and the chili competition. start at 1 p.m. There will be local vendors and local mead.

ALBURGH--The Alburgh Oasis AfterMarket Heros opening for Deuces Wild for an evening of old time 50s and 60s rock and roll and country on Saturday at 5 - 9 p.m. This will be the last Oasis show of the season.

ST. ALBANS--The Eloquent Page hosts Franklin County writer Walt McLaughlin for a book signing of his newest book, Wildness and Being Human, on Saturday at noon. FRANKLIN COUNTY BOOKSHELF
Drawing from his own experiences in wild places, Mr. McLaughlin challenges the conventional notion that being civilized somehow changes what we are. He argues that wildness is an essential part of our humanity, and that our complex civilization threatens it. When not wandering, he lives in Swanton with his wife, Judy.
