Franklin County's arts and music gatherings bring new opportunities, gossip, "show-and-tell" and occasional workshops. There are also booked and acoustic Open Mic Nights that feature music, readings, and more from the best new artists in Vermont.

ST. ALBANS--The Afterglow Festival brings three bands--Bad Horsey, Glass Onion, and Quadra--plus food trucks, guest speakers, and a climbing wall to Hard'Ack on Saturday from 1 - 8 p.m. AFTERGLOW
The family friendly music festival will raise awareness for suicide and prevention in this community and play a lot of good music. The Vermont National Guard will attend with a number of activities for kids, including a climbing wall. Food and beverages will also be offered by 14th Star Brewing, Mill River Brewing, Maquam Winery, AFK Kombucha, 242 Barbecue, Phoenix House 1835, and Fire on the Mountain Pizza. Cash, credit, or debit accepted. No outside coolers or alcohol will be allowed.
Admission is $25 for adults age 18 and older, $10 for 15-17-year olds, $5 for 5-14 year olds, and free for kids 5 and under. Tickets are available online or at the gate. Gov. Phil Scott extended school masking guidance until at least October 4 and required vaccinations for state workers. Vermont reported 785 new COVID-19 cases last week. Franklin County, with 76.6% of residents with at least one dose of the vaccine, reported 166 in the last two weeks. The 7-day moving average positivity was 3.3%. RESTART NEWS
Here's my own, still current, advice. Get the shot(s) and take precautions. The vaccines are extraordinarily effective but nothing is 100% foolproof. Wash your hands. Wear a mask where you can't control the airflow around you until we reach the same herd immunity we have for smallpox and once had but lost for measles. Bonus: it will also help protect you from pollen, summer colds, and the winter flu.
ENOSBURG--"As the leaves begin to change, the atmosphere of Cold Hollow is a sight to behold." The sculpture park is surrounded by the changing leaves highlighting more than 60 sculptures by David Stromeyer. The park is open Thursday - Sunday, noon - 6 p.m. through October 11. MILTON--The Milton Artists' Guild Art & Stroll has music and about 70 artists, crafters, and makers of all kinds from all over Vermont in the field next to MAG from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. in the field next to the MAG.

MILTON--The Milton Artists' Guild will host Marketing Your Creative Work with instructor Corrina Thurston as part of their ongoing series of online seminars this evening at 6 - 8 p.m. Art is a business. This in-person workshop will cover how to engage and grow and audience through simple marketing techniques including product photos, descriptions, calls to action, persuasive writing, and more. ST. ALBANS--Patrick Murphy and Saint Albans Art Supply hold an art class this evening and on the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

The art store also carries acrylics and oil paints, watercolor papers, sketch pads and canvas, Artograph lightpads, brush sets, brush cleaners, and more plus materials for kids. MONTGOMERY--The Montgomery Center for the Arts hosts Personal Symbolism in Art and Henna Design with instructor Nancy Brady at MCA-Kelton Hall on Saturday at 2 p.m. This workshop will teach the creation of a design based on personal symbolism and visual language as well as how Henna is grown, harvested, and used in Morocco. All supplies will be included.

MORRISVILLE--River Arts begins the Tuesday Intro To Wheel Class with instructor Barbara Flathers on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The six week throwing class will progress from beginner to pro with multiple projects and demonstrations.

GEORGIA--Jamie Lee Thurston headlines Georgia's Fall Festival at Georgia Beach on Saturday at 5 p.m. The Festival begins at 3 p.m. with fireworks about 8 p.m. Music starts about 5 p.m.
There will be arts and crafts, wagon rides, face painting, corn hole, a bouncy house, obstacle course, trucks, minute to win-it games, and more. The food includes Taco Truck All Stars and Lions Club, drinks from Mill River Brewing BBQ and Smokehouse, and a farmers market.
Admission is free. The Rec Committee is collecting donations for the food shelf.
