ST. ALBANS BAY--We usually think of "public art" as murals, sculptures, or other permanent pieces commissioned by governments or businesses for a specific site but there are new categories springing up as "the public" contributes imagery to the oeuvre. ART ON THE WALLS
Sunset art is one of those categories. The Bayside Restaurant has a view of one of Vermont's great sunset locations and posts nearly daily examples of this ephemeral art on Facebook .
A recent article published in Nature estimates that more than 100 million Americans were infected by the end of 2020. Gov. Phil Scott announced that 75% of children ages 12 - 17 have received at least one dose making Vermont the first state in the nation to get there. Still, Vermont reported 875 new COVID-19 cases last week and the governor has ordered that all state employees be vaccinated or undergo regular testing. All Vermont schools will continue masking through at least October 4. The daily average in Franklin County is now 7.1 cases per day. Unvaccinated Vermonters are three to four times more likely than vaccinated Vermonters to contract COVID-19 according to the Vermont Department of Health. RESTART NEWS
Here's my own, still current, advice. Get the shot(s) and take precautions. The vaccines are extraordinarily effective but nothing is 100% foolproof. Wash your hands. Wear a mask where you can't control the airflow around you until we reach the same herd immunity we have for smallpox and once had but lost for measles. Bonus: it will also help protect you from pollen, summer colds, and the winter flu.
MORRISVILLE--River Arts pottery instructor and "kiln god" Lisa Wolfgang hosts the in-person, September "Sip n' Slurry creative experience" as the pottery twist on a Paint n' Sip on Friday at 6 p.m. Craft functional and sculptural vessels while learning hand building techniques. MILTON--The Milton Artists' Guild will host Metal Smithing 101 with instructor Cathy Laclair beginning Wednesday 6 - 9 p.m.
The 3-week class introduces the "arcane and secret techniques" of making fine jewelry, primarily in sterling silver, brass, and copper. No prior experience is necessary. Students will learn the basics of metalworking including technical skills, building, and problem-solving. Emphasis will be on the fundamentals of working with hand tools to gain proficiency in sawing, riveting, hardening and annealing, simple forming, and finishing techniques. Supplies are included in the class fee.

GEMS AND GIANTS 2021 (September 26)--The Bryan Memorial Gallery member artist show combines large works with smaller works of art. All media with the exception of giclee prints is eligible. CARMIGNAC PHOTOJOURNALISM AWARD (October 18)--The 12th edition of the award focuses on the social, economic, and ecological crises impacting life in Venezuela. It will award one photographer from anywhere in the world a €50,000 grant to support a six-month reporting residency running from January to June 2022, along with a traveling exhibition of the works produced and a monograph. CHARLOTTE--The September Grange on the Green features the Will Patton Trio on the Charlotte Town Green this evening at 5:30 p.m.
Mr. Patton, David Gusakov, and Dono Schabner draw from Gypsy jazz and Brasilian choro styles for an inventive, melodic, harmonic evening of music. SOUTH HERO--The Snow Farm Summer Concert Series concludes with local rock and blues band B-Town with a mix of old and new cover songs at the Snow Farm Vineyard & Winery this evening at 6 p.m.
The live summer series has offered a variety of music, from classical to jazz to swing to bluegrass to classic rock. Concerts are held every Thursday evening into September, weather permitting. EAST FAIRFIELD--The live Meeting House on the Green Summer Music Series continues with Summer Sounds favorite Bob and Sarah Amos on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The concert marks the debut of their brand new backing band with Andy Greene, guitar; Kirk Lord, bass; and Alan Epstein, mandolin; with Bob, banjo and guitar performing a wide variety of Americana and Bluegrass original and traditional songs.
Admission is by suggested donation of $10 at the door with those under 16 admitted free. Concerts are held outdoors. ST. ALBANS--Church Street Sounds of the Season opens the new season with Music-COMP in Franklin County at the First Congregational Church on Sunday at 3 p.m. The concert debuts several new works by young composers from Franklin County and other recent Music-COMP composers performed by professional musicians, including members of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra and the Northern Third Piano Quartet.

JOHNSON--Moog's Joint presents the High Country Bob Fest--Dylan Tribute led by Pat Guadagno, Phil Rizzo, and Richard Oddo plus Seth Yacovone and Dark Heat all on Sunday at 5 p.m.
Bob Dylan turned 80 this year. The New Jersey gang have been leading the Bob Fests for years. There will be individual sets and collaborations with the classics, smash hits, deep cuts and more.
